Ideal Cars what do you guys think of the B6 RS6 (Bi Turbo 4.2) 2003 american version. Also yes the A4 is reliable I have a 2002 V6 6spd and at 130 just needed a new slave and master cylinder and back to good.

Ideal Cars 2007 audi A4 automatic. The HORRIBLE idle issue. If you have the answer please share. I've replaced all but the transmission. And the damn surging little as it may be is still horrible. I'm a Audi vw owner of several but this 07 ruined them for me.

Anyone who thinks these guys forgot AMG as a comparison to Audi's S-line is a fool. S-line is a sporty version of Audi's regular A class cars. AMG(Benz) = RS(audi) = M(BMW)

Having driven Audis since 1991 I can tell you they are extremely reliable when taken care of. You guys are young and I realize you probably didn't get to experience the old 5 cylinder Audi engines much if at all. While the 3.0T has been a good engine so far, it still has a while to go before it can claim the same long term reliability of the old 10 and 20 valve turbo five Audi engines. My old '87 4000 CS quattro was virtually bullet-proof aside from the door handles and window switches. I sold it in 95 and it survived another 10 years before an accident finally took it out. In my mind, the most reliable Audi models to date would be the 1992-1997 Audi S4 and S6 with the AAN engines. We've had five of them since 1995 and have only seen a flat bed three times in 22 years... once for a clutch slave cylinder failure, once for a fuel pump failure and once for a coolant connector failure albeit not on the same cars. I think the electrical complexity of the newer models will be their downfall in years to come but they are great to enjoy now or under an extended warranty. :-)

having driven and owned in our family ..... 4 Audis since 2000: 2 A4's/Q3/TT , all Turbo engines, .. I agree with you they are NOT reliable . the electrics are indeed glass . And that is not a maintenance item. The fundamentals of the cars, mechanical execution and performance are very good however ( compared to my Subaru, ). Extended warranty is a wise decision with a late model AUDI.
@DarinNederhoff
@DarinNederhoff 6 жыл бұрын
Curious what sort of electrical issues you've had? I have to think back to my '87 4000 CS quattro for any electrical issues and that was just window switches. I guess I did have some brake pad wear sensor issues on other cars but that's about it?

..... Lots to do with the electronic throttle body , Air Bag ghost failures, Wheel speed sensors , Interior lighting, power windows and locks. Mechanically on the 2.0T engine, mechanical fuel pump, and an injector. On the 1.8T , the early models were specced by AUDI with unsuitable oil that coked up and eventually plugged the oil pick up screen. EXTENDED WARRANTY a must.

As the former owner of a B8.5 S4, I can tell you that they are solid solid cars! I realize we still may have a way to go before announcing the 3.0T as one of the best Audi motors, but it's well on its way there. Although my S4 was a 6MT, that DSG transmission is amazing! Currently I'm driving a B8.5 RS5 and I don't miss shifting 😀

Can you please advise me in what to get Audi TT 2.0 tfsi with plan in tuning in future or TTS and just live with it since it has 272 hp or the Audi TT 3.2 dsg? Off course I’m talking about the TT MK2
@IdealMediaChannel
@IdealMediaChannel 7 жыл бұрын
+deLion ofdesert - It really all depends on your goals for the car, I’m a sucker for that VR6 (we’ve had several) but we think for the money, the TTS is the way to go - dependent on your plans for modifying the car. The S comes from the factory with many upgrades one might consider doing on a non-S model, and we believe the TTS will do a MUCH better job holding its value, and along with the TTRS, will go down in history as classics. Keep in mind, the S will have magnetorheoligical dampers which can be pricey to fix (it’s rare they fail though on this car) and your only option will be a DSG which is actually preferred for this specific platform. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching

D3 A8s are very reliable. Really the most important things that MUST be checked before purchase are make sure all electronics work fine, put that air suspension through it's paces, and if you're buying a pre-facelift, check to for evidence of prior TB service, or simply use that to haggle down the price a bit ;) Having own three Audis now, I can say that working on them isn't any harder that working on other cars, just buy the appropriate tools and do a little homework on the Audi forums, great places with great info that will save you a lot of money down the road. So learn to wrench a bit and boom. SO MUCH car for the money.

Yes very! Sure the car have had the turbo replaced, but that is normal. The car is completely stock. Everything is stock, no remap, exhaust, intercooler or intake. I think this is a pretty big reason, as to why the car has been able to do this. Oil have always been replaced with Vw/audi approval marks on it. ususally every 10.000 kilometers with fully synthetic oil. 10W40 or 5W40, depending on time of year.

I've owned three Audis, and my dad has owned four. My first Audi was a B5 A4 with the 1.8T. Even with an APR ECU upgrade, that car was very reliable, even with the track days I ran with it. My B6 A4 with the 3.0 V6 (and a six speed manual) was very reliable. I also had an allroad quattro with the 2.7T. When the factory warranty ran out, I bought an extended warranty. That was a very smart decision. The warranty company paid out twice what I paid for the warranty. My dad's A6 3.0T was another good one, but so was his earlier A6 3.2. For me, though, my B5 A4 with the 1.8T was the one that gave me the least trouble. It was also a blast to drive.

I have an ancient 2001 B5 A4 avant with the 2.8, and a 5spd stick. Car has held up remarkably well, other than usual wear items (brake, tires, shocks & so on), some paint touch up items, and replacing the fragile glass foglights and headlight level sensors every few years, the only real issue has been rear spring replacement, and oil seal/timing tensioners and pcv system. Has 239,000 miles, regular fluid changes, and it just keeps on going. It is one of the very rare s-line models, and even the white leather seats are in great shape. Newer audis, with the exception of the dreaded 4.2 chain motor, are all very reliable vehicles. Just take care of them and they're good cars.

I put over 300K miles on a b5 A4 2.8 Quattro. Yes I had to replace some parts along the way and I did full synthetic oil changes every 7500 miles religiously over 19 years. At around 320K the timing belt broke and with the engine damage I let it go. I don't really buy into the Audi is unreliable ideas out there. The auto parts market is global now and manufacturers source many parts from the same suppliers. It seems like every manufacturer has Takata airbag issues as an example. Consumer reports now has Audi at #3 for reliability. Good enough for me.

On my second S5 Sportback 3.0 supercharger and going strong. Have my current one remapped with smaller charger pulley wheel making over 480bhp (330 stock). Engine is bullet proof and smashes the RS 4 for less cash. S-Tronic box is good but the electronics controller for it (mechatronics system) is prone to over heating and fails. @BassVentura not saying they are way worse. im also not saying youre a kid. but a diesel just isnt the best choice for a sportscar because of its characteristics. low reving, shitty sounding, not as responsive, needs lots of boost to make decent power. its a nice work horse of an engine but nothing that suits an emotional fun sportscar or something youd build to make really big power. wont you agree? i mean there are plenty of 500+ hp 2.0 petrol cars around. but 500+ on a 1.9 or 2.0 diesel is a different story. possible but way harder. not to mention more crazy numbers like 1000+ from some 4g63 evos or something. never seen a 4 pot diesel pull that. thats all i mean. they are fine as a daily beater work horse trailer pulling engine but petrol is still the way to go when you want a really fast car.
@99Lezard99
@99Lezard99 5 жыл бұрын
@BassVentura yeah id say it depends. diesels usualy sound like truck engines from 6 cylinders and above. i know that a fully straight piped v6 diesel sounds very similar to a v6 petrol car but still you can hear some dieselness. and i like some 4 zylinder petrol sounds. like you say civics sound shit, i dont think so. depends on the exhaust thats fitted but the sound of a dohc vtec like the k20 reving to 8k does sound sweet. or itb's on a 4 pot like the 4age or the sound of a straight piped turbo sr20 or 4g63 is also very nice. not to forget the subaru boxer rumble witch is also only a 4 pot. but yeah everyones got his preferences. btw i love a good 5 zylinder sound. but not diesel. 😁

I have a b5 1.9tdi and i never broke down. Its my second one. The first got rid of it because it had almost 500k on the clock and it was a bit worn out. I found a similar one with only 45k on the clock with full history. It only cost me 1500 bucks and in pristene condition. So the last 10 years only spent 4000 bucks on buying the cars and maybe 2000 on maintenance which equals to 600 a year cost to have a car and thats really cheap. So i will keep buying b5's tdi until i cannot find anymore.

I have a 1.9TDI PD (2004 not Audi) with 364.000km and I didn't have to change a thing in the engine and the transmission! I got even still the original turbo in it! Had to replace the clutch in 350.000km, that's all! What amazes me is the fact, that the glow plugs are also original and still work even in -20C!!! :) Everybody said about Pumpe-Düse, that it is the worst system of all diesels because of the complexity, but it turns out it was the most reliable! The only problem is oil! You have to give it VW 505.01, 5W-40 which is like the most expensive oil for a normal car I've seen (haven't found anybody but Castrol to produce it anymore), but it works. A lot of people ran TDI PD on 5W-30 so that they don't loose Oil (I refill 0.6l between my oil changes and even that was for some people too much!) and than the busted the cams. But to be true 1.8T were also briliant and I would say even more reliable. But the consumption... :(

I have a 2010 A4 2L turbo premium plus that has had the oil consumption issue fixed with new pistons and rings. Power steering shudder fixed, and water pump fixed under warranty a few yrs ago. And I have a 2013 A6 2L turbo Premium plus that has had no engine issues. The center display is no longer going up and down after a little motor failure and locked into the up position which I prefer anyway. It does show a code using a vagcom cable Ross tech (worth every penny of 375 bucks) though. Ditch the Audi brake pads and installed ceramic pads all around both cars and the brake dust issue is not an issue. Both cars get amazing mileage 34 and 32 mpg highway. K and N stock size air filters and oil filters. MOBILE 1 0-40 only. The A4 still uses a little oil but not a quart every 750 miles. Maybe a half quart every 3000. That is what the dealer repair promised. I am retired and have 2 other cars so the Audis dont get a lot of miles. Mostly highway back and forth from Myrtle Beach to CT. So far both have been reliable. And are both out of warranty. Extended after market warranties are about 7000 to 9000 dollars. Just get a new car. And do not change the trans oil. Audi believes it should last the lifetime of the car. 6 speed auto and 8 speed auto, a4 and a6.

Has been reliable though have replaced a few items (radiator, heater coil) but these are age related and understandable. The 3.0 is a peach of an engine and starts readily even in the sub zero temperatures here in North Dakota. Oil use - approx. 1 qt in 7000 miles. No rattles or whistling wind noise. Rides and handles well. Just a solid performer. I've been duly impressed. Driving lights/turning signals - not so much. Connecting hardware seems to be an issue. 100% agree with everything here, Have an 09 A4 with the 2.0 TFSI and it has been an absolutely biplolar engine in terms of reliability. When nothing major was broken, it could just absolutely tank abuse, it is torquey, smooth and surprisingly quick while being decent on fuel, and the platform is good for minor tuning up to around 350 crank with bigger turbo, exhaust, downpipe, intercooler. But when it went wrong it went wrong BAD. My rings leaked oil, had that fixed, intake runner flaps broke, had that fixed, PCV broke, replaced, timing chain tensioner failed on startup, full rebuild. But when running normally, it doesnt have any minor annoyances like some engines do, its all or nothing. Its weird, all my friends' cars often have lots of small issues, i've more than a few times had to pull over when we are crusing or such and help them with their cars, my audi has jump started their cars probably close to a dozen times now and I always keep tools in the boot for them. Pretty good for the "unreliable" one in the group. Downside is one morning I turned it on and my tensioner let go and mangled every single valve requiring a rebuild. When it goes it GOES. And I 100% want one of the 3.0 SC'd V6's. B8.5 S5 supercharged + DSG is basically my "affordable" dream car, those V6's will happily make 500 all day with just pulley swaps and a tune. Just gotta find one with a low KM 2nd gen unmolested DL501 that's actually had oil changes lol. Also love to see my car on the list! B8 A4 2.0T baby, I've sunk so much money into fixing all the fucked parts on the motor (rings, intake runns, chain tensioner, PCV, coilpacks etc..) that it runs like a top now. B8 A4 is such a slept on car, for not much money you can get a K04, uprated intercooler, downpipe and tune and keep up with stock or lightly tuned S4's . And because people are still terrified of them, if you know what you're looking for and can do some work yourself you can get one crazy cheap.

Nothing compared to the B 8.5 single pulley and tune. She pulls like a bear. If you have VagCom. I suggest scanning any potential purchase for codes. See previous, waiting, and existing codes stored on the ECU. If any, it's pretty rare. The only downside I have ever seen as a semi common problem..... the Mechatronic unit. Basically the TCU. Any item on the Mechatronic unit that fails or needs replacement dictates having to get an entire "new" mechateonic unit. Not cheap. But it is still rare. Seen more in the 2013 MY. You can Google the VIN# and see if it is one of the potential builds that may have a Mechatronic issue down the road. Bottom line. Buy a B 8.5. You will not regret it. You'll smile everytime you hit the start button. Amazing car.

Forgot to mention bud. She has just passed 195k of really hard and aggressive miles. She still runs like a beast....

I own an 2006 8P A3, it has the early generation 2.0tfsi in it. oil pump is a huge problem with it. It is currently sitting due to oil pump, and this time it may be a full engine swap. I also own a 2002 and 2003 B6 A4 both with 3.0L, one automatic, one manual. If you keep up with oil and transmission changes they are great. Timing is a pain, no K03 to worry about, automatic trans is pretty much going to fail, door wires tend to wear out (2 out of 3 on mine), and window regulator clips break. if you go older 3.0L AVK, learn to rebuild transmissions, or go manual. It is nearly indestructable. maintain timing belt, but that goes for every model. 2.0T FSI, hold out until you can get a 2012 or later. Carbon buildup is a real pain in the earlier models, and oil pump issues sneak up on you. Turbo issues too. most of this was brought up in the video.

I know this is an old video, and while I find it quite on point since I’ve had those exact issues with my 09’ A4, and I’ve experienced the reliability and superb experience and performance of the 3.0T with my A7, I just find it amusing you completely forgot about it? I mean it has the 3.0T and it’s an amazing car, and was never mentioned, what do you think of it?

I have the 3.0T in the 2014 A7. Reliable as any car I’ve ever had. Owned it for a little over two years. The only expensive thing I’ve done is getting the timing chain tensioners replaced for $3k, but nothing was broken, it was just ticking at startup.

First gen 3.2 V6 A3 Quattro with DSG is great. Over 16years and no problems with mine. Just keep regular oil changes.
