That's true, that does seem to be a reoccurring tip. I actually think that would be a bad place to take me on a date, because I would just look at books and search for more info on my phone about each interesting book (rating, better prices, etc.). I would stop talking to my date, and if they kept interrupting me, I would just give up looking for books. Yes, I can see it now. I would just amble behind them and give opinions on books they're interested in instead. -INTP Lady

Here is how to get introverts to get out of their house with one simple trick! Seriously though, I guess the idea is to get you talking about all sorts of subjects that the books remind you of, which is great but the issue is that you arent really allowed to talk in bookstores as that would disturb other people. I can confirm that would get me out of my house though…

LOL- As an INFP, I also wouldn't particularly want to go to a coffee shop, and that's just because the ambiance of most coffee shops kind of sucks. But, the general idea of sitting together and talking appeals to me. Like you said, talking on the couch at home (LOL) would be better. So, not a coffee shop, but instead, maybe a type of bar with a nice atmosphere that's not too loud so you can sit close together and talk. I also enjoyed sitting on a bench and talking as part of a date (the ambiance of being outside with trees around was better than most coffee shops would be--but again, that key element of talking closely is there--just not at a coffee shop).

@@MusicFanOnline Yeah, I totally agree with the talking part being very important, I just don't vibe with sitting down and talking being the only thing we do. Even just going on a walk would be better for me. Frank mentions doing something simple that's not too distracting but I'm incapable of staying focused for so long, I need a distraction from time to time or otherwise I'd be ready to head home after half an hour lol Ice skating, an escape room, amusement parks, arcades, museums, a cooking class, all of these are examples from the video that can be done while having a conversation and getting to know each other. I also just like to observe people and how they react when they're doing stuff, that's another great way of learning about your date.

With the INTP, there’s a big emphasis on the things they are already interested in, because they do love to learn and share what they know, but they’re also fairly picky about what they spend their mental energy on and super picky about what they spend their social energy on. Additionally, they’re pretty protective of their comfort zones and staying close to them, so don’t just assume that every INTP will be interested in things that are stereotypically associated with them

As an INTJ I'd say that the best date possible is just to go to either one of the partners homes, talk about philosophy or art for a couple of hours, and then pass out drunk and high while watching Yellow Submarine. But your idea about going out to do something physical in order to let all the suppressed frustration with the world vent in a boom is a pretty good one too.

But please don't change your mind on the way and go somewhere else because I (always have something to use as a white weapon with me) have panic attack. @@Carcassbits11 my last girlfriend was an ENTP. Though we did provide for each other for a time, she couldn't stand the "me" that was what I most cherished. It's true, we enjoy learning new things and experiencing something exciting, many of us really like to have fun, but we need to be mentally prepared. As an INFP with adhd: - I do really love learning about someone - but I cannot stay focused in a one on one conversation for an entire date. (I would also be uncomfortable) - preferably for a date I’d have something to do at all times. - Not something that requires a lot of attention and focus, just something to keep me preoccupied, and I can turn the conversation towards whenever I’m stuck. - this might just be me, but I would love doing an activity for a date. As long as it’s not the entire date. If I don’t feel like I got to know someone better after a date, I probably won’t be feeling more romantically attracted to that someone. - another thing that might have more to do with adhd, I would love for a date to be planned out. Because I’m terrible at management. - not incredibly detailed, just what we’re doing, and when and how I’m going to get home. Ps: I’m sorry about the bad punctuation and irregular use of big and lower caps at the beginning of a dash. Also the illogical use of the dashes (I’m not sure about the pattern in them myself). Edit: forgot to mention that the swapping idea was genius! I would love to swap a music playlists for example!

INTJ here. It's been 30 years since my last first date with my ISTJ husband, but INTJs who are dating for the purpose of finding a spouse/life partner will want to hear about where you'd like to be 5, 10, and 25+ years out. Quieter environments where conversation is easy are best: a leisurely walk in the park, quiet restaurants, a meal at your house, and that kind of thing. We're focused on compatibility, which covers things like lifestyle, philosophy/religion, childrearing, and finances, because we're figuring out whether or not there's any point in continuing a relationship with you. Obviously start with lifestyle stuff earlier in the relationship: interests, general life goals, etc. Don't take it personally if we end it early on; we respect your time and energy as much as we respect our own, so we don't want to drag it out any longer than necessary. We think of marriage as a strategy game where couples are teammates helping each other deal with challenges to reach a shared goal. If you're not a good fit, it's time to move on and find someone who is.

As an INFJ, I can confirm that I love to see what people are passionate about. I love watching them get excited. Even if I have no interest in something myself, I will often get interested based on someone else's enthusiasm and genuine passion, as long as they include me in it somehow. I think this is partly selfish because the side-effect is that I get to do some research and bring a question to them about this thing that they are passionate about but that also has caught my interest and we get into a really engaging, nerdy discussion about it, and I like that a lot. Hm, I really want to have this type of conversation now.
@uniscorch

As an INFP married to an INFP: Can confirm a one-on-one mostly-focused chat is ideal! We swapped short stories we'd written, and were immediately interested and knew we had things in common. We had our first date at my favorite bubble tea place, and then walked to a park nearby. Walking is great because you don't have to make eye contact unless things are going SO WELL that you want to sit down and get intense. HOWEVER, I would recommend at the bookstore that you share your picks but don't trade them. Worst case scenario, you aren't into the INFP's pick, and they are HORRIFIED that you don't like their favorite thing after immersing yourself in it, because they may personally identify with it. It took a while before I was comfortable revealing to my husband that I don't like literary fiction because we both have strong pro/con opinions. It's better if you can enjoy the different things you like side by side, so there's less pressure.
@uniscorch

The other great thing that worked out for a low-pressure environment was that it wasn't officially a date: We were just meeting up to talk about our stories, and then the chemistry in person was so terrific I asked afterwards if we could retroactively call it a date. He said yes!

As an INFP it is true that we prefer to get to know the person and are not interested in having distractions, but as a first date I would be anxious to have nothing to do. If I don't have an instant connection with a person I risk falling into silence and empty moments so I would prefer to focus the conversation on the activity rather than stand there in silence and stare. INFJ really hits home here. When I’m interested in someone, I want to know everything about them. Yes, I will stalk them online too to collect information about them (👉🏻👈🏻). But I will also keep daydreaming about taking a long walk with them or sitting in a cafe with a cup of coffee and just hear him tell me about his life, his thoughts, beliefs, what made him the person he is today, and so on. Unfortunately, I have never been lucky enough to experience that with any of my crushes. They never evolved from the crush state, as I’ve never opened up. But I’m looking forward to experiencing the getting-to-know-someone-on-a-deeper-level some day. Someone who sparks a deep interest in me, that is. Or else I don’t want it.

I get your thinking concerning ENTJ, but when I look back on personal experience, dates that the other person planned have been routinely underwhelming or outright awkward, regardless of whether it was a stranger or a life partner. On the other hand, many of the dates I remember the most fondly were ones that were unplanned and gradually went completely out of hand. Like that one afternoon in Istanbul that started with a local beer and a discussion about architecture, and ended late morning the day after with my parents knocking on my hotel room's door and him hiding in the bathroom that was flooded. Good times.
