I used to listen to this as a child during the seventies, (well my Dad did, which pretty much meant I had to also). I grew to enjoy it but never knew what it meant. I think I liked the man's voice that read it. But only just today aged 52, I now actually understand it. I great memory of my childhood and my dad.

Jon Taylor HAAHHAHA. I'm listening to the shipping forecast on a meditation app, as one of the sleep stories. No idea what the hell the guy is saying half the time

Back in the late 1960's, my parents always listened to the shipping forecast while on our annual family holidays. I never fully understood the full meaning of it, but it always made me smile when the 'voice would say "thunder showers, good" 😄

You didn't explain "backing" or "becoming cyclonic". Fortunately there is google: Becoming cyclonic: Indicates that there will be considerable change in wind direction across the path of a depression within the forecast area Backing The changing of the wind in the opposite direction to veering (anticlockwise), e.g. SE to NE Great video though, thanks.

Maybe no voice over, but the most concise description of the shipping forecast on YT so added to our learn about the weather playlist. Thanks

Any time thing added to our learn is nothing wrong with there, I’m sure everyone will agree.

It's wonderful. Hypnotic soothing and a sense of continuity and all is right with the world even though we know its not.

Can someone help me please? I recall a documentary about Fair Isle and it was very windy! Listening to the shipping forecast each morning i can't remember how long its been since there wasn't a gale warning for Fair Isle. Can you tell me a) how long has this run been going on and b) what the longest ever days of successive gales in any individual shipping area please?

Thank you. I am concerned about airliners flying in the jet stream. Is it possible airliners are slowing down the jet stream? Thus affect the weather?
@OaktownGirl5 жыл бұрын
No, it's not. But there is plenty of scientific evidence that shows global climate change is having a slowing effect on the jet stream, and it's causing more extreme weather damage. You can research this fairly easily for more information.
