This made me think of something my aunt who is a Catholic nun told me. She said that when the Sisters go into poor communities and are able to help them get materially stable, not wealthy, but stable with enough food and shelter, they are the happiest communities. They don’t focus on getting more stuff. Instead, they focus on worship, on family and community and spending time together and helping each other.
@Seliz463
@Seliz463 6 ай бұрын
This illustrates something I think a lot of people don’t grasp-our current economic and legal institutions have a pretty big incentive to break up family and relational ties because that’s how they get us to turn to consumerism. There is no money to be made from people in stable, loving families and communities. So we need to keep in mind that there is a very intentional push to harm and discourage those bonds. It’s not a random or coincidental thing. It’s an targeted agenda. Individual people have to make the choice to prioritize their marriages, families, neighborhoods, parishes, and other positive (non-consumer based) social ties. It’s okay to want material things and went wealth, but it’s important to see it as a means to an end, not a source of personal fulfillment itself.

That's the thing about the two clubs here, secular belief and the religious. Good chance we all want the same thing in the end, and we just speak a different language and have different rituals about it. We need more people like JBP and Pageau who are bilingual, so to speak, and can help translate this humanity across both languages. Great uniters in a time of division. We can all have our own purpose within this, scientists studying the material world, and those who's efforts are on understanding ourselves. Let us continue to take time and stop to ask ourselves what progress is.

I am reminded by the Exodos seminars where they discussed the need for several layers of mediation, as in Moses and Aaron, needed to bridge the gap between the worldly and the Divine. One thing of note is that I became aware of and I am still trying to digest is, after reading 'The Master and his Emissary' by Iain McGilchrist, when he described in detail how up to about 2 or 300 hundred years ago there was no such thing as a secular world. So this is rather new and still hasn't been worked through.

@@caseyhart4406yeah, the Protestant insistence that there is no need for any mediator between man and Christ is false. Then why do we need a Bible, or pastors, or seminaries, or all the millions of Protestant lay ministries and workshops and books? Christ did not come to abolish teachers or communicators. We absolutely need help from our fellow brothers and sisters to understand Scripture and doctrine, and we need a single authoritative body to keep the interpretations and teachings from going off the rails, and to provide good training to clergy. And that allows room for multiple layers of mediation to help people slowly grow towards increasing complexity
@caseyhart4406
@caseyhart4406 6 ай бұрын
@@Seliz463 I very much agree. I also have started to realize that it is even worse than at first glance. It is not just human mediation that the Protestants rejected, it is also the physical mediation. The mediation of actual physical embodiment through increasingly complex ritual. The relationship with the Divine is not only between the ears but in the body as well and the loss of structured physical touch, smell, even taste in our worship creates an ever widening gap between us and God's creation around us. We are ever increasingly an island left to our own devices to relate to God's works and God himself. Pushing individualism over the edge into isolation. Nietzsche claimed that ultimately the reformation would result in each of us being their own individual Church. In which they would invent a god for themselves. It is so clearly playing out before us now.
@Seliz463
@Seliz463 6 ай бұрын
@@caseyhart4406you nailed why the real presence of the Eucharist brought me to the Catholic Church. Because it is so logical-that’s what human beings need. We are composite creatures, material and spiritual. We need the mediation to be both of the body and of the soul. The Incarnation of Christ itself represent this. It took this stubborn, over educated atheist a lot of study to realize that the most elegant and coherent anthropology of the human person is perfectly captured in Catholic doctrine. Human beings have a basic and incontrovertible nature, needs, and set of operational parameters. And the perfect conditions include both spiritual and material nourishment both from the Word as well as from the Body of Christ. Protestant doctrine takes it all out in the name of “freedom.” But what you’re left with is nothing except your own will to power. Which is a spiral right into subjectivism, meaninglessness, futility, and despair.

No it’s really not. You’re just Christian or religious so you agree with him because you belief system match. The fact that it has been proven that existence and the universe is probabilistic refutes the idea of an intelligent design which implied predetermined and intentional creation by a creator. Even more, everything we have in our body right now is evolutionary and evolution is trial and error and took us millions of years of trial and error that is randomised to get exactly what we have today. Everything you just mentioned like function is already explained with the scientific theory of evolutionary which has more evidence and better reasoning than the philosophical theory of a creator. So it only makes sense for anyone with reason to believe a creator does not exist, at least based on currently what we are aware of. The TRUTH is, (as you guys love to self proclaim to be of truth so much) is that God only exists WITHIN your belief system. And your belief system isn’t a objective reality. It’s a subjective man made construct you perceive the real world as and project on the world such as when you try to tell others of different belief systems as yours to adhere to yours. In other words, no disrespect but you are delusional.

“The kind of attention it will receive is indistinguishable from a god” Jonathan you have understood this beautifully and potently.. as ever. “To even posit other goods meant you had to be run out of the public space”. Yes- it’s all about what you worship. Thankyou for putting the Top at the top. Commandment number one. You’re such a blessing. Preach it brother! The language of heaven..- “The love that moves the sun and the stars.”s You remind me of the Pole who said that one day there will come a time when every poet needs to be a Saint. That time has come. We’re hearing it. We’ve prepared for it. Our Holy Hope is dawning like the daystar from on high if we keep looking up. Thankyou for having made it so beautifully clear.

Jonathan has a great way of turning people from the horizontal way of looking at the world and reality, and directing them to the vertical. Wherever we are at - look higher (and deeper).

I've been a subscriber of Jonathan's channel for quite some time, yet I've always perceived his discussions as overly abstract and somewhat unclear. However, in this talk, Jonathan's brilliance genuinely came to the forefront. Rarely have I encountered anyone, Jordan Peterson included, who can articulate deep philosophical and theological concepts with such exceptional clarity and confidence. This talk gave me goosebumps of joy because I was totally connected with what Jonathan was saying.. what a blessing!

What's beautiful is that Jonathan began by addressing the atheists of whom none self identified, but undoubtedly spoke to even the self-purported followers of religion reawakening us as we all need to from our idols and to the elusive good that transcends always. Truly a shamanic call 👏

True true, and while my next words may come off as contentious, he also really was trying to make it clear without saying it so harshly, but still he said it nonetheless, Christ is that truth and Big G, GOD. Pageau isn't an ecumenist and he is very much and Orthodox Christian, the man spoke to believers and non believers alike very precisely.

Thank you Jonathan: you powerfully reminded us that the world is not merely an assembly of matter, atoms, and impersonal forces, as postulated by Democritus. The more material goods we accumulate, the less contentment we seem to find. As humans, our nature is to partake in the divine goodness of God, which transcends all physical or fleshly desires that fail to quench our thirst for joy and purpose. Set your sights high, and then elevate them even beyond what is currently visible to your eyes.

I's like he just started. Great exposition. I'm impressed again how he's able guide other into opening their view to higher vistas. I hope others will recognise him, because such a powerful concentration of remarkable people need a self-transcending impulse, lest they become worse than the thing they want to prevent. I pray for their and our guidance.
