I agree that slytherins are NTs but I disagree with the other houses' temperments here's why Ravenclaw Traits : Wisdom, Orginality, Acceptance Ravenclaws are NFs. Creative and unconventional. Always curious and daydreaming about what could and might be. Although they wouldn't go so far as to step on people's toes. Eg Luna Lovegood, Gilderoy Lockhart, Cho Chang Gryffindor Traits : Courage, Determination, Adventerous Gryffindors are SPs. Rule breakers if need be. Unafraid to do what works even if it's dangerous. Eg Hermione Granger Hufflepuf Traits : Fairness/Justice, Patience, Dedication Hufflepuffs are SJs. Doing what is right takes utmost precedence, even when inconvenient. Duty driven. Eg Newt Scammander, Cedric Diggory. I know it's not the point of the video but i thought that my opinion was interesting :)

I really appreciate the distinction between academic and intellectual. I'm an infp, and yes I can become an academic, but I will never perceive the world the way an intellectual does. When the sun comes up, I don't wonder how many kilometres per hour the light rays are moving to get to me, like Albert Einstein did when he was at work; nor do I call the director of the Titanic (James Cameron) to complain that the "wrong sky" is used during Jack's death scene on the giant door (like Neil Degrass Tyson did). I see now that it is a lifestyle, not a large collection of data, to be an "intellectual" the way it's presented here.

The revised Pottermore quiz puts me (INTP) at 78% chance Slytherin OR Ravenclaw. As quizzes go, YMMV. Considering that the better known Slytherins like Narcissa Malfoy, Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape, Sirius Black, and honorary-Slytherin Harry Potter are impulsive, pragmatic, concrete, and individual interest-motivated (Also they have a rotten track record at understanding other people's intentions - Ne trickster or demon), I'd favor Slytherin as the SPs. J.K. Rowling portrayed Ravenclaw as academically competitive with each other, valuing not just memorized knowledge but wisdom and wit. The relative lack of fleshed-out characters in Ravenclaw also fits with NT vs SP demographics. Either way, this was a thought-provoking lecture.

Ravenclaw is probably the hardest house to correlate because even though by process of elimination it'd be SPs, looking at the actual traits it lines up with INTJs the most. But then Slytherin lines up with ENTPs the most (no wonder I'm a slytherin), which means that in many cases, you would end up seeing Slytherins and Ravenclaws together in the form of the ENTP-INTJ golden pair.

Great addition to series. Currently waiting for a new chart, even tho I have created several improved ones for my-self - based on original one. As for me it is actually easier to work from another way around - identifying is a person Ti or Te, Si or Se... - and then comparing those via chart (not most efficient as chart most of times has to be by hand - my case in phone), afterwards verifying by interaction style, and only then bringing up temperaments (as so far they were most difficult to understand, but these series were great on explaining that) - now since I can memorize these temperament identifiers it will be easier to identify person without having a look into a chart.

I prefer the NF, NT, SF and ST temperments by Myers Briggs. Or even the NJ, NP, SJ, SP approach. It's more logically consistent. Reasoning is more important for why someone would do something than behavior. Plus there are the four quadras & communication styles for tracking behavior and relating the NFJ-STP dynamic for example.

For the Harry Potter Houses, I'm pretty sure that Guardians [What is + What's Right]= Hufflepuff, Gryffindor = Idealist [What if + What"s Right], Ravenclaw = Artisans [What is + What Works], and Slytherins = Pragmatists/Intellectuals [What if + What Works]. You mentioned Hufflepuffs as idealists but I think that's a big oversimplification. Hufflepuffs are defined by their sense of duty, hard work, and fair play. Sensibility. Justice. Fairness. These are all words that fit Hufflepuff and also Guardians. Also, just applying the Say/Do Metrics to the 4 houses yield simliar results. Hufflepuff and Gryffindor are the two houses that care about what is right. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw are the two houses that fight about what is instead of what if. Gryffindor and Slytherin clash on morals and idealogy (What if), whereas Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw clash on interests and concrete skills (What is)

Love the Harry Potter and Wizard of Oz stuff. 👍 Other than that I struggle to understand how this Matrix is useful for people. It seems to me that Its basically just a lousier way of identifying temperaments compared to Linda Barens method, which is lacking nothing really, so. 😅 Maybe I'm missing something here, but anyways. As long as people find it useful that's Great. I guess I'm just not one of those people this time. Fantastic Season overall,. Just amazing. The Type Grid have proven to be trustworthy and true in every aspect I have tested it. Probably one of the best things I've learned in my whole life. I agree with your Harry Potter house sorting. Slitherin: I can see all the NTs in Slytherin. My naughty INTP and ENTP friends are Slitherin regardless of how developed their Fe. It’s in their natural sense of humour. Gryffindor: Synonym of chivalry (SJ). At a glance, it seems to me that Gryffindor is for extroverts. However, I imagine my ISFJ boyfriend would be happier in Gryffindor rather than in Hufflepuff where societal norms might be completely disregarded. Hufflepuff: Of course, NF. Even though most of my ENFP friends want to be in Gryffindor, I know they might choose their heart over what society wants them to achieve. Ravenclaw: I used to think Ravenclaw would be for NTs. However, based on cognitive functions, I think it’s best for Ti, with either Ni or Se. People with both strong Ti and strong Ne (AKA INTP and ENTP) are more slitherin than Ravenclaw. People with strong Te are not that Ravenclaw. With strong Ti, ISTPs and ESTPs are easily Ravenclaw. ISFPs and ESFPs are strong on their Se, and I imagine them to be the Ravenclaw of charming portions and perfume. ISFPs and ESFPs are too F for Slytherin, too Se for Gryffindor and too Fi for Hufflepuff. From an INFJ who wants to be in Ravenclaw. :)

The laws are universal, legal or natural to serve humanity with justice . As an INFJ I think rules are hindrance and need to be tested and verified, while laws are here to serve the greatest good of humanity as a whole. To break a natural law you need to use another law or change the conditions. There is a limit to how small or far our eyes can see, but we can use lenses in microscopes and telescopes to expand upon this , there is another physical law that can serve me well. Even the legal system . If it says everyone needs a driving licence to drive a car , this is acceptable, because it serves everyone's safety. And so on. I love laws. I hate rules. I am courteous fron ethical stand point. Not because I am abide by rules and societal norms . I can bend them. I respect laws only. Don't know if all idealist are like this. I always thought the freedom aspect was more due to a certain amount of apathy and a disregard for social norms. As a house they seem primarly "what if" based, inventing new magic, spells, and such. I've always scored Ravenclaw for the pottermore tests and I'm an intp, but the nt temperament does allign with a lot of significant Slytherin characters as well. I always thought people were sorted because of what they deem important. So for instance, Hermoine has a lot of wit but doesn't value it over "doing what's right" so therefor she's sorted into Gryffindor and not Hufflepuff. But this is getting out of hand haha. It's really funny though to see my favourite childhood books pop up in a cognitive functions videos. Would be interesting to see a typing video of the HP characters, but based on the books instead of the movies.

Harry Potter houses seem highly debatable. I'm an ENFP and I got Ravenclaw and then Slytherin in second! xD

they are very debatable

C. S. Joseph, you might want to refrain or reconsider the reference to Harry Potter houses. The Pottermore test is not designed to tell you what you are like but what you desire most. That desire may have nothing to do with who you actually are. People miss this important point, thus the confusion.

Joshua Knapp I’m not worried about it, it’s all too subjective anyway

How is philosophy not systematic? As an INFP, when I'm trying to explain a new theory (philosophy?) to someone, I try to give them one set rule to that theory, try to get to the core of it, so they can apply that theory anywhere. For example, when telling them about your typology theories: explaining to them how yeah, you may like alone time, but primarily you'd rather be at a party. So now they can't say, "oh but sometimes I'm this, and other times I'm that," etc. I gave them a system, and yeah there's these little exceptions, you just gotta figure out how they fit in the system. (That's so Te manipulative lol.) I'm always trying to get that core ("unbiased" yes I've started listening to INFP season 19 ep. ;p) theory so it can be applied to give all the floaty little details structure. Or I am getting systematic/methodoligy all wrong? Point is, I'm not systematic tho so... What can be the difference between a philosophy and a theory? Thank you, this lecture was DOPE ;p.

People have typed me as an INFP because I tend to be informative. Thankfully, my professor was super against that idea. But as an INTJ, only my INTJ ego is direct. The ENTP unconscious, ESFP subconscious, and ISFJ superego are all informative. Yes, I have a high ass chance of coming off as informative rather than direct. I prefer direct but I'm not stupid and choose my battles when I know I can get away with being direct. Just because I come off informative doesn't mean I'm not an INTJ, I'm clearly just not comfortable with you to be direct aka, you stress me out. Same with concrete. ISFJ and ESFP are both concrete. Interacting with people stressful so the concrete comes out as a coping skill.

Love your lectures. Very informative and insightful. I have a question about typing based on interaction styles. I have trouble identifying my father being ENFJ/ESFJ. Direct vs Informative. You’ve said that direct is a man of few words. Does it only apply when person gives orders or in casual conversations as well? Because I can definitely see overlap. Most of the times he appears informative (talking non stop about every single detail, stories, anecdotes) yet, he gives orders very direct, unaware that it comes of very bossy (irritating for me, hate to be bossed around

You are most welcome. Just take a moment and pull out his sentences. Is he telling you to do something more often than not or is he giving you the opportunity to choose your role in the conversation? Utilize the milk example as a guide. Also, what about control vs. movement? Does he take his time or does he go really fast? How does his interaction style compare with yours?

Hi AZ, this is Wendy Gossett who Chase referenced in the video. I also am a temperament coach and an ENFJ. It is HARD to tell the difference since we both have the same dominant cognitive function. An ESFJ is going to be more administrative and detail oriented. They are also very concerned about keeping up appearances and worried about how they appear in society.ESFJ's are very content with status quo, hanging out with their family, traditions. They dislike change. ENFJ's care more about authenticity and will be true to themselves regardless of what society is doing. Also, they are more big picture than detail oriented. ENFJ's are restless and creative, always looking to change the status quo. ENFJ's thrive on change. Hope that helps!

C.S. Joseph HOLY SHIT!! I have just realized something. I have been reading your blog post about Artisans and you mentioned how your father tried to live through you and he was ENFJ. Well if my father is ESFJ, his subconscious is INTP and he wanted me to study in the best schools, to be intellectual, to be smarter than him essentially because his relatives been telling him in adolescence that he is stupid. And if I am INFJ, who are known to be social chameleons then I became INTP because I wanted to please my parents especially father and felt guilty that I could not live up to what he wanted me to be. This burden that he put on me almost broke me and I have grown to despise him in my own way(door slam) because of it. Now if this is all correct then it falls into places. That is why I have traits of INTP and INFJ at the same time. I have been living in my shadow pretty much all my life, doing what I SHOULD do and now I don’t know what I WANT to do except for all this suffering to end, because I have never exercised this muscle when I was growing up(my mother is ISFJ). Incredible epiphany.

Wendy Gossett thank you for your reply. I think I found out his type to be ESFJ. I explained it in my reply to C.S. Joseph’s comment in this thread.
