OMG! 6:37 thank you so much for this ! I know how to do both ways but I never knew it was wrong or right because my sister tells me it still sounds good so i get confused and think Maybe this is something that depends on my preference and for real your vocals sounded so supported and strong when you were controlling .. I totally understand that gliding part it definitely feels that way ! THANK YOU THANK YOU😭now I can finally stop being indecisive..you saved me from being indecisive and continuing a bad habit

Spot on. When I sing songs like Foreigner's classic "Urgent" (perfect example with all it's intensity and punchiness) I'm really working hard down below throughout that entire song.

Thank you. This helped me not only to sing better (way better) but somehow it just made me happier(?). Like I don't know if I was lacking air or anything but after trying out excercises about breathe support I just feel more full and energized, thanks for the great video!

Thank you so much for this! I've been wondering what support should feel like for sooo long! I've heard so many versions of it, it's gotten more and more confusing over time. Some say you should feel a sort of contraction in the abs, that they should be engaged and "hard" if you touch your belly area while singing, but I've always found this so difficicult to understand or apply. Some say you should feel and mantain an expantion in your rib cage, as you also mentioned, which I've always found easier and more intuitive, even though sometimes it's difficult to understand if there's support or not, at least for me. However, for some reason now it all makes more sense and I'll be working on more on the physical sensations you mentioned in this video. (It'd be great to have a sort of checklist to make it easier to understand if I'm supporting correctly or not :D) Thanks again

Your comment absolutely made my day Bea, thank you! I struggled for so many years as a young singer because I was doing what teachers told me to and my voice wasn't improving. I didn't understand support because the WAY it was taught was vague or didn't make sense. So it makes me incredibly happy to hear that it was clicking for you after watching this video. How's it all feeling now?

@@thatsweetroar Thank you again! I've been practicing for quite a long time now and I really can feel the difference! I have more control on the notes I have to sing. Also belting has become easier, even though I'm still working on the higher notes! But everything's clicking and I'm so happy about my vocal journey! I'm really glad I found your video! ❤️ Yesterday I had an audition for a musical and even though I was a bit nervous, my voice came out freely and effortlessly! So I'm really loving it! Thank you!

M`kay, so I think you've just fixed my vocal problem with a 10 min video :D I've had this idea in my head that to get intense, for a chorus for example, I need to push out everything I have from the belly area. Now I see how precision is the key, not a full on attack on my vocal chords.

Wow, am I happy I stumbled onto this video! I always listen to different sources hoping one thing will "click" - and something went off while learning from this video. I've been singing forever, but always with too much tension and no consistency whatsoever. I'm trying to rework the basics, and this is a great start! Now, I just need to know what else to do pre-vocalization. Currently, my throat muscles tense up even before making a sound. And if I'm able to relax them, something kicks in when I do make a sound. And even if I'm able to have everything relaxed for a short time, when it's time to bring the power - nothing relaxes no matter what I do. Going to check out your other vids and site, and see if I could find more helpful vids like this one! Thanks for sharing!

Hey, thanks so much for these videos, they're brilliant! I'm mostly a classical singer with a little musical theatre thrown in (started with Phantom of the Opera then drifted to Les Mis and now I'm singing Disney songs) But I'd really like to sing more contemporary, pop and worship. Is this technique for me? I really struggle with breathing! As a trained classical singer, should I learn this technique for contemporary? Thanks so much! Grace x
@thatsweetroar
@thatsweetroar 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your lovely comment Grace, I'm thrilled they were helpful for you! Yes, this way of breathing will be helpful if you're wanting to sing pop and contemporary, it could feel quite different to what you're used to for classical. When I was studying opera I also wasn't taught about how the way my support felt should change depending on intensity. The other thing you'll want to investigate for the switch into pop singing is how you shape your vowels. This is the difference between sounding like a pop singer or an opera singer trying to sing pop (if you know what I mean). The sound tends to resonate more INSIDE the mouth for classical whereas we mostly direct the sound to the front of the mouth and outside it for a contemporary tone. I hope that helps honey! x
