WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE NEW Chanel 20C Medium Classic Flaps?! Quality Issues 😡

Hi guys.
This is going to be a downer video but I hope you watch until the end!!
After finding a popped stitch on my brand new Chanel 20C Medium Classic Flap bag, I returned it and got a refund. Soon after, I found another new med classic flap bag at Saks, this time, MADE IN FRANCE, so I snatched it up. 😳
Unfortunately, I'm sad to report that ONCE AGAIN, there is a quality issue. 😔 😞 😢

I will be returning this bag too, but am conflicted on whether to try for an exchange or simply get a refund and forget about all of this ridiculousness. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe try pre-loved or vintage? Please share your comments down below!

I would definitely return that bag and get one that makes you happy. The SA’s job is to find you a bag that’s perfect to your liking. As a customer, we shouldn’t have to feel like we’re taking so much of their time or feel pressured to buy one just because they’ve already spent a lot of time helping us out. If I’m paying big money for a bag, it better check off all my requirements that I expect from a luxury bag that it is. Don’t settle for anything less. Get your refund and go to another store. Your perfect Chanel bag is waiting for you. Good luck!

Hello Catealk City, I saw brand new Chanel bags like yours that the inside lining doesn't touch the bottom and has some space in between. SA said it will be betrer in the long run as your bag won't sag and keep it's structure at the bottom, as your things inside will be like floating. She said that's how they do with Boy bags. Hope this info helps. 😍🙂

We all know that chanel uses the word “handmade” as an excuse for their terrible quality control, but seriously, for their price point, it should literally be perfect. If their bags are not perfextly handmade, they might as well lose the handmade part and make it in factories. Handmade should mean perfection in my opinion, i mean, it’s not handmade by some random part-timers. I hope you returned it, although it might be a while before you find a perfect one, there will be one.

Here is my concern, how is that air pocket going to hold up in time? Once you put items in your bag, and again and again, then what? That would be really something to consider before it gets serious. Definitely return it, or exchange it. If I was in your situation I would not let any SA ruin my experience, kindly, ask for the manager and voice your concern if you need to. I can tell in your tone, you are educated and polite, just ask them to look for the one that will make you happy 😃 GL finding one:)

I would return it, because the air pocket takes up some capacity of the purse. You need every mynute space to fit all your essentials.

I have 8 classic flaps, in m/l and jumbo sizes and have had this experience with the internal lining twice. They were bags purchased new from the boutique, but once I put my items in and used the bags for a few weeks, the raised lining settled in neatly and rested flushed against the edges of the bag. So, in my experience, the raised lining was from the bag being new. Once I used the bag, the leather was no longer lumpy/puffy. I think you need to assess the bag again and make a determination whether it truly is an air pocket or whether the leather just hasn’t had time to settle down yet. When you place items inside the bag, it helps the internal structure mould to the actual structure of the bag itself.

Bag looks great If anything makes u uncomfortable return it it’s a 6000 bag... the outside of the bag looks fabulous... now I think i might have to buy in Palm beach instead of Manhattan because i never had any issue there.. for a 6000 bag I expect perfection

THIS IS FOR EVERYONE : Please don't make any apologies because You know what You want (Definitely Educated On what You are Looking For) and that You Deserve The Exact Quality Of CHANEL That You are/were Looking For (and considering The Very Real Money Of Yours that You were going to spend at CHANEL) -- those lazy SAs can go to hell with their "eye-rolls" with You wanting to make The Best CHANEL Purchase For Yourself -- are those SAs stupid not knowing that they work on on "Commission", and The Fact that Coco Chanel herself was All About The Highest Of Quality for Her Beloved (Namesake) Brand in the first place...? CHANEL'S "Quality" sadly has been "hit or miss" (with "A Lot Of Misses") for many years now -- yet the CHANEL "Price-Hikes" continue -- so don't settle, if You were truly unhappy with what You noticed in this CHANEL Handbag as a Paying CHANEL Customer (or any other "High-end Luxury Brand Item" that You were purchasing) that You thought there was something "off"/not supposed to "be there" -- then return it at Your Fastest or Within "The Return Window Period", and shop in-person at another store (and if You think the SA's at any store is "not being helpful" -- Politely Yet Firmly Ask For The Supervisor, Manager or Any Other "Higher-Up" to further Assist You With Any Of Your Purchases.

Keep in mind that if you plan to buy the bag in Europe and later some quality issues come up, your US store might not take responsibility, despite it being a world-class brand. I’ve just discovered my pop stitch after 2 months of buying. Now I’m abroad. If the bag quality isn’t worth the price, at least the service should. Even cheap stores like primark offer 3 months of refund window. I think we customers should be the ones doing eye rolls.

exactly! Good of you to mention the exchange policies for purchases made abroad, we don't always think of things like this until something goes wrong. This is the same with Rolex, offering a lousy 12 month warranty for items you pay AUD$10,000+ I was so angry when I read the shocking customer service experience this poor woman endured.

Honestly for 6000 it really should be perfect, I’m shocked with the quality. And there really shouldn’t be any eye rolls either. If they think that’s too much to deal with for what they make, then they probably should also think about this is how much you have to deal with just to spend a load of money. The service is disappointing.

For that amount of money, you should be 100% satisfied! And honestly, for those sales people to give you any attitude is completely unacceptable! They become a bit jaded about how much this bag costs! They would absolutely want perfection if they themselves were dropping that kind of money on a handbag! You definitely should not feel bad about taking it back.

Sis, I literally had the SAME issues with a classic flap I got this year. The bag bulged out on the left side, one of the quilts on the back was deflated & the inside lining had a massive air bubble like yours! I was shocked. The bag was in 100% unacceptable condition, and when I brought it to the Chanel store in my area (not the store I purchased it at, as I was traveling & didn't open the bag until returning home) the sales associate tried blaming me & how I was storing it for it's condition. Although the bag was kept in all its original packaging & completely unused (chains wrapped, stickers on hardware, in dustbag, etc.) wild!

If it was me I would get a refund. It is totally unacceptable for these flaws with a price tag of this bag. The SA is there to help you, not to make you feel unwanted. If anyone made me feel this way I would complain to the manager. There is no excuse for rudeness or unpleasantness. 👍 Hope you get this sorted 😊

Tbh I don’t mind the flatter look and less matte look when it comes to caviar! And I would definitely get the first one! Cause it’s just different preference, rather than actual manufacture issue. But thanks for pointing out the issue, I definitely agree that with the price increase, the bags’ quality should at least be stable, but not decline!🙄 I’d rather they produce less of it and make it more expensive, just like the birkins, that how a luxury brand should work.

I think it's a mental thing where because people resent how much they spent they then nitpick for flaws - imagined or real - which is a kind of buyers remorse. I've been seeing this more and more over the years as the price increases as people seem to trying to find a reason to return the bags.

Dior has increased their price nearly as much as the Chanel flap yet you do not see videos like this about their quality control issues on youtube as much as Chanel. Never Settle for less than what you want Especially for the price you’re paying for a Chanel! Unfortunately I know you don’t want to encounter with the SA to exchange or return but You have to be Fully Happy with your Purchase! You want to carry and use your bag knowing that it’s Perfect, Nothing Wrong with that! We’re not talking about a 100.00 bag, so I personally would bite the bullet and go back! Wow ~ thank you for your video on Chanel Medium Double Flap. I just purchased it last Monday for $6500 + tax so little over $7000 and I thought I had a perfect bag. I checked and checked but I see now that inside I also have air pockets on the bottom of the bag and inside front side lining is lumpy as well. I would have never known without your video about it. I will be returning it now because the quality is just not worth $7000.00!

Omg I have the same issue with the air pocket on the left side of my Jumbo flap that was not there in the beginning but about 4 months later it’s popped out and very noticeable to me and might not be to others. I don’t think they are little issues and if I had mine immediate and that occurred I’d taken it back in a heartbeat but for a jumbo caviar bag that I have used about 6 times I’m saddened with what I noticed. Over time if it bothers you take it back because there’s gonna be more! And I’ve learned to shine my phone light alllll over the bags because what you pay you should get perfection what they are know for. Exchange it and who cars about the eye rolls. It’s your money and you worked hard! If it bothers you now it always will. Thanks for sharing as it’s an honest review.

OMG! I’ve never seen anything like this on a new Chanel bag. You have to return it and buy one in Paris. SAs are also nicer in Paris, even in London... definitely return it! It’s not worth the $6k. I have no idea how Chanel is in USA, but to get a “defective” bag, and then beeing shown another 3 “defective” bags essentially in the same store, it’s madness...

I looked at 5 brand new chanel classic flap bags recently: 3 medium and 2 small, in Bloomingdale's and bergdorf goodman. ALL of them have qualify issues. One of them has asymmetric bottom (one side in sharper angle; the other side more rounded). One of them has very lopsided flaps. *All* of them have air pockets at the inside bottom. I am starting to think that because everyone wants a chanel, they just rush to make the bags and become careless with workmanship. Meanwhile, nobody is talking about salvatore ferragamo's quilted Gancini flap bag. It's basically the same bag as chanel classic flap, except more functional, better-made, and much cheaper. The back pocket can fit a cell phone easily. I have 3 (in different sizes and colors), and all of them have perfectly smooth leather lining, no air pocket whatsoever at the bottom. All of them are perfectly symetrical. And you can buy them brand new online at steep discounts. Chanel bags never go on sale, not because they always sold out, but because they destroy all past season unsold bags

@@vena936 I don't think Bloomingdale or Berdorf are selling fakes. Chanel simply doesn't have quality control. I also went to look at the classic double flag that I want at Chanel's NYC flagship store on 57. They showed me one that has overspilled glue. I saw another one that has the back pocket not centered. There are also bags with the CC turned lock not centered. It's almost impossible to find a class flap with the 4 holes for the strap lined up symmetrically nowadays. If you ask Chanel reps about these problems. They simply tell you "Chanel doesn't consider these defects." I was like, "really? You expect customers to buy that explanation?" I heard this is because in recent years, Chanel has cut its budgets for quality control, and that's why their bags have been coming out that way

@@vena936 I learned an expensive lesson. I bought my first Chanel classic flap bag at Chanel store at full price, didn't notice it was not well-made until I got home. The back pocket is skewed to one side, the holes for the strap do not line up, and the 2 bottom corners in front are not symmetrical (ALL these flaws happen on one bag!!!). Usually when you are at the store it's difficult to pay proper attention, as there are many people around and you are under pressure to hurry up as there are other customers waiting for the SA. I would say, really take your time to examine the bag carefully before you buy it, also watch many KZbin videos (like this one) about potential flaws of Chanel bags so you know what to look for when you are at the store, probably make a list of items to check before you go in. I have been thinking about trying pre-loved market, but haven't done it yet, so can't tell you about pre-loved market.

As I am looking at your video and pausing to look around 5:58, I notice that on the front left side, the diamond quilting does not match up well when closed. Is that something that should be aligned better? I recently bought this bag and it had similar issues. My wallet on chain in caviar has all the diamond quiltings perfectly matching when it is closed. I am trying to see if I can get a double flap that has all the diamond quiltings for both front and back perfectly aligned. Do you think that would be too hard to find?

Chloe Yes good eye!! This bag was not right for several reasons. If you buy a new classic flap, the quilting should line up neatly both on the front and back.

Return it, because that defect is going to affect your resale value. That's type of defect happens in counterfeit Chanel bags. People will have doubt at its authenticity.

I had same experience when buying LV bags, lots of quality issues and I exchanged 3-4 times in total. The sales associate became impatient In the end. from a customer perspective, we spent a lot of money and just want to get the best bag in excellent condition. SA should help us, this is their job.

I had a vintage Chanel classic flap in medium before. I believe it was from 2009. The bottom of the bag was definitely not puffy like that. About your bag, I also noticed that the turn clasp on the inside behind the flap is not completely centered in the middle of the diamond quilt.

For now in store. lot of Chanel bags are made with cheap looking caviar leather . Some bags made with uneven side . My friend bought me a bag from Chanel store in France had same issue and I can’t even return it 😭

Yes, you should return the bag if you're not happy with it. Also, a real salesperson has their customer's best interest in mind and should not have pressured you into purchasing a bag that didn't have the details you wanted especially at that price point. You want to be happy with your purchase.

Unbelievable, the audacity and attitude of some retail assistants is astounding. If this was a brand new car you were buying there is no way anyone would accept a major flaw. Well done for standing your ground, you have every right to expect perfection at that price. I would ask to speak to a regional manager as this is not acceptable as a large hollow will probably affect the structure of the base with future wear. If it really annoys you I would return it, you should feel 100% satisfied with a brand new bag. It's disappointing that this happened, buying Chanel classic Flap is meant to be a joyous occasion. I hope you find a bag you are happy with.

Return it and tell them you didn't have a good experience there and that this is your third time because of quality issues. Tell them that you want a new sales associate and u weren't happy with your previous ones. Sometimes if you're being honest but nice about it, they will realize they were being rude and turn their attitude if they want to make a sale.

For sure...I got my bag in a box with white blotchy stains on it in a NM bag with a few wrinkles, plus NO camelia. I asked them to repackage it. We all know we aren't paying for that price for just a bag (leather, labor, tariffs, etc). We are paying for an experience so it better be damn good! I used to be timid and grateful to SAs--not anymore. I'm friendly, honest, and respectful but if I don't feel comfortable, I walk.

In my opinion, you should expect perfection. Each bag is handmade; unique, but there is a standard you expect. With that air pocket you have lost actual usable space within the bag. Due to reading and studying reviews about recent quality.....and also just the fact that I love the single flap jumbo, I went the vintage route to purchase my bag. If you have time and work in NYC, it wouldn't hurt to stop into a re-seller and take a look at the bags they have in stock.....just don't share your story right away so they don't up the price.

Oh my god!! Just watched all the three videos. So helpful by the way. I was about to have a classic flap in small or medium shipped to me from the boutique from another country but now I´m not so sure.. Would you suggest not to and buy it from my local boutique that cost equally to 350 us dollars more (both Chanel boutiques)? If I buy local I can inspect it myself but with a hefty cost. What would you do?

I can not return it to local boutique but I can send it back for equally 170 us dollars. Also if I buy from another country there is different currency which will cost me quite a lot if I get a refund.. I am exactly like you when it comes to bags. I see things that "no one else" sees.. Maybe I should just tell the SA in that store to take many photos and tell her what exactly is important to me. Tell her the LOOONG list of specifics ;) that have to be perfect. Wow, thanks for sharing, didn't think quality has gone down so much. I'm a huge Chanel fan but I definitely noticed lambskin bags from the 2000's are much better quality than 2010's. Good thing I do not want classic flaps anymore. But like you said you are spending so much money and if it bothers you now, will continue to later or even more. Chanel SAs can definitely be terrible, I don't like a lot of them! I finally found one I LOVE this year actually if you need a referral, she's at the Madison store. I would bring bag back and give it to the SA straight or speak to a manager. You have every right to be picky with the amount you are spending and tell them you will need to look at several bags. You deserve a perfect bag and nothing less, take your business somewhere else if you get any attitude. Good luck. XO

I bought a brand new small classic flap in navy colour last week. I have to say the bag looks almost identical to yours except the colour. The air pocket you mentioned at the bottom is same in my bag. My bag lid has the little gap you mentioned on both sides but it doesn’t bother me. I am totally in love with mine. So sorry to hear you are not happy with yours. If you know it will bother you later, you should return it since it is your money.

it depends on the combination you want. the SA told me usually blk caviar and gold hardware is popular. I was casually asking around chanel retail stores in nyc for two years and couldn't find it. eventually i found it in milan and they only had one blk caviar and gold hardware.

I returned this. This particular one had air bubbles not only on the bottom of the bag, but also on the sides of the bag, which I noticed after filming. It does seem that the newer classic flaps often come with bubbled lining (at least on the bottom) and most sales associates will say this is “normal.” However I don’t believe it should be this way. My other Chanel bags do not have this issue. Edit: But if yours has a very slight air pocket, it may lay flat after some use.

I would return it and get a refund. Like other users say, wait and get it in Europe. It will likely be cheaper and you'll have more choice. I have a vintage lambskin classic flap (about 20 years old) and mini flap (about 2 years old) and don't have any airpocket problems at all.

The flatter quilting is more classic. The older bags were flatter. With that said, you are the customer so if you like puffy, then that’s your bag. Chanel quality has gone down a lot sadly.

There was a popped cotton-looking material out of my Chanel classic flap. At the side of the bag itself, so the outside. It bothered me at first but I got over it and over use, it actually went away. I can’t even find the popped cotton looking material anymore. And my bag has just gotten better the more I used it. There’s imperfections but you kinda just learn to work around it and you’ll enjoy the bag more if you use it more and not too OC about it. Although it’s your prerogative to not like imperfections like that since you’re the one buying. If it really bothers you, go back to Chanel and ask for a store credit for another bag perhaps? PS. This bag looks really gorgeous already as is. The caviar leather is shiny and puffy (usual Caviar nowadays is matte and less puffy), and the inside of your bag is also buttery soft like most Chanel classic flaps. The lump I noticed is something Chanel sometimes (maybe by accident) does in a couple of bags.

I m shocked about Chanel CF quality nowadays from the video and all the other comments! I purchased mine from the 57th St. store back in early 2013, I was on waiting list for a week (after 2 months being on Bergdorf’s waiting list) and got called by SA said they just received the shipment and have the combination I wanted, do I still want it? I said yes and run to the store in the afternoon the same day. I paid it without even checking the bag as I never heard Chanel has quality issues back then, so the need of checking the bag never pop up in my mind! I bought a jumbo in Paris in early 2015, again without doubting quality of the bag. But after that I start to heat people complaining about the qualities on new bags. It’s just sad to see this happen to a great brand. I’ve been a Chanel customer for over 15 years, they used to be expensive yet still reasonable price range with great quality. But seems that’s no longer the case. With current price and constant quality issues, I completely lose my interest in Chanel new bags...

I would really try and scrutinize the bag in the store. I know with lighting and all that it can be difficult. But if the quality is not 100% for Chanel I doubt I’ll ever get my hands on it even though it is gorgeous. I’d go preloved and save some money hopefully! I just bought a black medium CF last week before the price increases from Chanel at Saks NYC and they shipped it to me. But it is from 20C collection with 28 series. It looks like a displayed bag or someone returned. And it was also made in Italy. Its strap is not as soft as my another MIF CFs and the strap leather edge is “feathered”. Not sure if I could return it since all the boutiques are closed now and if they would accept my exchange request.

The issue is that Chanel has increased price but not quality, the bags are the same quality as or have dipped over the past decade, but the price is now making people scrutinise every facet of the bag to see how it lives up to it's price tag. Chanel is no longer value for money, and few brands at this price point are unfortunately.

Is this your first Classic flap? Should have checked inside out before you made the purchase. At any point if you don’t feel right at the store, really shouldn’t make the purchase. Have u ever thought things like this might happen even if you get it in Europe? It can happen anywhere. And you might not have the chance to return the bag in Europe. I didn’t inspect the lining bc I was busy inspecting all the other issues ... ugh... lesson learned. I know what you mean about Europe... I think that you should return the bag and get a bag that is as perfect as possible. I would ignore the eye rolls, you can't control the bad behavior of others. Be happy with your purchase, it is an expensive bag and while it is handmade, the quality should be much better.

When youre paying such a high price for a product its completely fine that you look for every little detail to be ok. After all Chanel is the most important luxury brand today and the price is extremely high, so youre right. By the way i think the puffier quilting looks a lot better too, in fact thats part of the whole cache of the ítem, cause its a detail thats meant to give texture and a bit of 3d effect visually. Return it and if they roll their eyes or give you any attitude tell the manager! I use to work at that SAKS, they make commission on their sales so that’s why they pressured you. I feel so bad for you! I had to look at 4 jumbos when I finally bought one. My inside lining was not flushed, but it eventually settled better. I have stitching in the corners which is more visible. I purchased my classic flap, and the air pocket also happened to me. I returned and exchanged for the new one that was less of air pocket. After putting stuffs and used it for awhile, the air pockets disappeared. I would say return it and get a better one. It won’t be perfect but at least it will be better.
