Our infrastructures are crashing. Education, health, housing, jobs, local authority functions etc etc….being deliberately destroyed. It’s just so obvious. Starmer is accelerating what the Tories did for 14 years. Massive amounts of taxpayers’ money is being sent abroad - to fund ridiculous corrupt political regimes and organisations.
@SusanaXpeace2u2 күн бұрын
You don't understand, all of the main parties were in cahoots with each other *not* to even mention the big issue, and unlike in Britain, we didn't have the option of a Reform party. The government controls RTE so the issue hasn't been properly acknowledged. Like in the UK, you're labelled far right, or a bigot or an islamophobe if you speak up. We didn't have an alternative. I went to vote and voted for everybody but the main parties. This is the problem with proportional representation. It used to work well when all of the parties genuinely stood for something different and challenged each other within a coalition but that is not happening now. Once upon a time, Vincent Browne on the RTE would have GRILLED each party leader and he would have ridden them hard. Now they aren't accessible. Nobody challenges them. There's no debate. They aren't answerable or accountable. So it's not that the people are stupid. There's just no alternative. There will be in four years, but by then, I guess we too will have parallel communities, that demograph that rejects secular law and ''declines policing'' (wtf).

We have a housing crisis here in Ireland. Don't be fooled by the space
@r.c.obrien45952 күн бұрын
A manufactured housing crisis I would say. The government have every reason to keep the price of property extremely high. It's reflective of a 'healthy' economy when looking for foreign investment. It's one of the first indicators of a booming economy. Think London, Hong Kong, dubai etc. It's leprechaun economics at its finest though. It helps to balance debt to gdp ratio when looking for loans from central banks etc. They keep the supply low and demand high which sky rockets property prices. 'Build it and they will come' is speculative and can collapse. Let them come and create a demand...now its not as risky for investors to come build roads and infrastructure etc etc. No 'ghost estates' and empty cities like in China. The other way to create a demand is to incentivise the indigenous to have children, but it's a long game. Immediate result is by flooding the place with migrants. The reason they don't want to tell YOU what they're actually doing is because they would also have to tell you that YOU are gonna pay for it. And suffer from lack of services, high rents, inflation etc etc. Average Joe will never buy it or even understand how it works or why they're doing it. So they make up phrases like 'housing crisis' and lead the public to believe they are just incompetent idiots. Its economics....but YOU will not get rich or benefit, middle class will be drained of its wealth. Beyond the governmental level, there is a different agenda being played out. They don't care about getting rich because they print the money. They want global governance and new system. 'Housing crisis' is a scam. It's a move in their game of chess and we are the pawns. These people are very, very clever. Don't underestimate their intelligence, they are utterly brilliant at what they do. Government; 'we have housing crisis' Also Government; ; 'we just imported 1 million people' Pawn; scratches head...'government are incompetent' Also pawn; re elects same government. Do you REALLY believe these people don't know what they're doing??....come on.
@oioisweetheart3500Күн бұрын
I was thinking about that, why they offered houses to these migrants. Don’t you have homeless Irish men that need to be looked after and prioritised over these foreigners. Back when, 70s, 80s, a Palestinian infiltrated Ireland (the MEs used poetry festivals to infiltrate!) seduced an Irish girl, got her pregnant and booked her on a return flight to Tel Aviv - to meet his family, only he wasn't going on that flight. Wonder why a moz would let a pregnant "wife" travel alone? Well a smart BA check in clerk thought just that, and also that the suitcase was rather large for a round trip. So, ding ding, called security... and guess what, "nice" (grrr) Palestinian "husband" packed the suitcase - FULL OF EXPLOSIVES!!! I hope the BA check in lady received full honors, OBEs, Damehoods, etc., for her alertness, because she saved the Irish girl, her baby and an entire jetload of passengers. The problem as I see it is with our voting system, Ireland's Proportional Representation - Single Transferable Vote (PR-STV) system is that it effectively creates a "soft dictatorship" by guaranteeing coalition governments. Why is this bad? Because parties know they will need to form coalitions to reach the majority of 88 seats (in 2024), it’s almost impossible for a single party to govern alone. This reliance on coalitions leads to numerous issues: muted criticism of potential partners, policy dilution, backroom deals, lack of accountability, marginalization of smaller parties, a perception of a "uniparty," voter frustration, and a lack of clarity in policy direction. Take one example: the muted criticism of coalition partners. Parties often avoid criticizing opposition groups they may later need to ally with, undermining robust political debate and reducing the diversity of ideas in public discourse. Until we change this system-which is used in only two countries, Ireland and Malta-these problems will persist, and genuine political accountability will remain out of reach.

It also means smaller parties can add 'flavour' to the mix. Whether right wing (PDs) or left (Labour or the Green) the smaller parties can steer the bigger parties. Without PR Ireland would just bounce from left to right, and further each time. Society would be more polarised. Cross party agreement would be lessened. PR STV lets the votes more finely express their wishes. Remember, it's not just about political parties, it's about selecting a bunch of representatives in your local multi seat constituency. Irish votes get to chose the specific representatives they have from the ballot paper, picking and choosing between candidates from similar or different parties. You like a party running 3 candidates but 1 of them is an idiot? No problem, vote the other two 1, 2 in order or preference, some other half decent candidates 3, 4, 5 and 6 before returning to the candidate you had issues with. You give them a 7 and then continue ranking the other candidates in reverse order of who is least bad. It's great! The only people who moan about PR STV are either from outside the country or occasionally one of the medium sized parties (FF) who would much rather have a big overall majority.
@ytsmКүн бұрын
PR creates total paralysis. In places like Belgium and The Netherlands, it's taken months - and in one instance - over a *YEAR* for a government to be formed. FPTP is not ideal, but it certainly beats the more "democratic" options out there.

The Irish character is a factor in this. As is our Catholic heritage. As Michael says we want to back the underdog as we see ourselves as underdogs. We want to be the good samaritan. There is also the characteristic of keeping the head down . Keeping our views to ourselves. The whatever u say say nothing mentality. I think it's that mentality that took us so long to achieve our freedom. We are a people who desperately need a good leader. I think all most Irish people want is a fair migration system rather than the free for all we've had for the last 5 or 10 years.

Ps. I lived in Ireland years ago when Polish immigration was high. It was even difficult then in some towns because it changes the culture. A particular problem with Islam is it fights to preserve its culture in foreign countries. I now live in Africa, and feel that this is NOT the case with Muslims here. I seriously believe there is a concerted effort from Muslim authorities to change western culture and introduce Sharia.

There is very little in the way of an opposition party in Ireland. The establishment parties all sing from the same hymn sheet. The proportional representation voting tends to aid the more established parties. If voters don’t rank all candidates and their preferred choices get eliminated, their ballots become no longer influence the outcome. This can benefit larger parties with more widespread support, as their candidates are less likely to be eliminated early, and they often attract second or third preferences from a broader voter base.
