What it's like to drive a track car on the road. And you don't need a car with 500HP to have fun.

I've actually watched enough of your videos that I recognize some of the roads. Nice driving! I don't slide my 987.1 but thanks for letting me know that when I'm pushing it on the twisties I'm putting a lot of wear on the rear brakes. I'll start running with PSM off and SPORT on.
@DasCayman
@DasCayman 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, whenever I go to the track my rear brakes will just about near catch on fire if I don't turn PSM off. The real GT / RS cars have a better ABS controller from BOSCH / Motorsport. Even when PSM is "off" in non-GT cars, it's still on. BUT! Just be careful if you're not used to it. $400 in rear pads is a lot cheaper than $40,000 for a new car :)

Damn, I'd love to have a proper wheel like that in my 987.2 CS. Bet the steering feels great. But I do a lot of miles in it and I just don't think it's worth the risk of going no airbag. Suppose a full harness would sort that, but then most people would say you need a cage as the harness without a cage is an issue if you roll the car. Bleh.

@@DasCayman Problem is, you can't control what other people do. The more miles you do, the higher the odds that someone in another car eventually does something you compensate for. If some idiot pulls out on you and you've nowhere to go or whatever, then you might be eating steering wheel. If I only drove it occasionally, fine, but I do the thick end of 10K miles a year in it.

After seing this it is mandatory to do some driving ''tutorials'': 1. How to Rev Match 2. How to Heel Toe Downshift Those 1st gear downshifts are simply flawless, but it is a little bit more wear for the 1st synchro because the gap between 1st to 2nd is the biggest of all gears. Keep up the good work mate.
@DasCayman
@DasCayman 6 ай бұрын
I can shoot a video on that. But as long as you perfectly rev match every down shift you won't have any wear.

@@DasCayman Rev matching will do precisely nothing to protect your synchros from wear. You'd have to be double declutching for that. Not the same thing at all.

@@flat6croc It helps with the constant mesh transmissions. I just took my trans apart and none of my synchros have wear :)
@flat6croc
@flat6croc 4 ай бұрын
@@DasCayman I can't comment on the condition of your transmission, but it's a mechanical impossibility for rev matching to protect the syncrhos, it does absolutely nothing to equalise the gearboxes internal speeds. When you blip the throttle with the clutch pedal pushed down, it has precisely zero impact on the gearbox. Rev matching reduces or removes clutch wear, that's it, it doesn't help with synchro wear at all. You may as well say stamping on the brake pedal protects your synchros, it makes about as much sense!

The Cayman S is a 3.4L non DFI and the Spyder is a 3.4L with DFI. Also the cayman is fully gutted so you really only hear engine noise. You can't hear the engine in the Spyder because it's not shared with the cabin. So all you get is exhaust.@@JordanRocksWell

@DasCayman 6 ай бұрын
The 997.2 GT3 is a heavy purchase price compared to your C2. If you have the means, sure. But if you don't track the car every weekend (engine reliability), then you're fine with your C2. I pass GT3's all day in my lowly Cayman S on the track. People ask if I have an engine swap. I just say driver mod. Cheers@@hazemgiballi

@@DasCayman I’m really after fun. I just ripped a 997.2 3RS and loved the LWFW, engine / intake sound and great shifter. I have a sharkwerks x pipe, gundo side mufflers and Fabspeed intake with OZ Ultraleggera wheels. Hoping the OE carbon foldable buckets make for a very close feel (outside of engine noise and pull) to the GT cars. What else would you do if you were me? I’m worried LWFW on the carrera will be less livable than on your Spyder. On the 7.2 3RS, I felt no issue driving the car normally like some people complain of regarding to revs dropping quickly…
@DasCayman
@DasCayman 6 ай бұрын
The lwfw won't be an issue. You have more torque than my Spyder too. I'd try to liven up the experience and theater as much as you can without sacrificing drivability (if this is your only car). Adding lightness helps. You'll love the buckets. If the shifter feels sloppy you can get the numeric cables and shift mechanism. Just be careful of not putting too much money in it as you'll encroach on the price of a better base car, like a 997.2 C2S @@hazemgiballi
