I always get a kick out of it when I spot Darby in a movie role. I'm glad he stuck with his craft and didn't fall prey to any of the pitfalls of the industry like so many other child actors of his day. He's a shining example that education, years of practice and study in many aspects of your chosen craft gives you a better handle on the overall picture. His "Stick-to-it-ness" reminds us that perseverance pays off. Thanks Rob for another great one.

He was walking right past the Chinese Theater. saw the blonde guy that appeared in 'the man from uncle in the 60s too. my dad would narrate the Hollywood Christmas parade for radio. I was walking down sunset and a Rolls Royce pulled up and Vincent ran into a carpet store. he gave me an intense look I went to Hollywood jr. high the year President Kennedy was assassinated. You know Jay North (TV's Dennis the Menace) went through an extremely tough time as a child actor. Since his mother was divorced, his aunt and uncle acted as his guardians during his four years playing Dennis the Menace. But they were far from giving, not allowing Jay to mingle with other cast members on the set. The only time he could hang around with kids his own age was the occasional "free day" at little league baseball games, or when his uncle took him to see horror films. But his aunt was the most Domineering (with a capital D), often subjecting Jay to physical and verbal abuse. By 1963, however, the then 11-year-old North had outgrown the antics of his TV alter ego, and the show ended amidst falling ratings. Though North continued acting for a time, he became fascinated with serial killers (at one point, auditioning for the role of Ted Bundy in the TV miniseries The Deliberate Stranger). As the '90s began, Jay turned his life around, thanks to Paul Petersen and A Minor Consideration.

I see that the current craze of time travel series has even impacted A Word On Westerns, I thought this was shot in October 2021, but according to the episode description it will be shot in October 2022. Hinton is still keeping his feet in the genre of westerns, doing his part to keep it alive, thank goodness. I recently purchased The Marshall on DVD about famous Marshall Bill Tilghman, in a semi fictional account of an episode in his life, in which Darby played a big part, and played it very well. Also included in the cast, was Don Collier, which I was thrilled to see, and Johnny Crawford, who played the part of William S. Hart (apparently a part wrote into the film just to give the ailing Crawford another chance to "ride in a western" once again, and probably for the last time -- very thoughtful and generous, I think, and Crawford was ever-so-happy to do it, you could tell). Am I plugging it, here? Yer durn tootin' I am.

Another great interview, Rob. I enjoy hearing from Darby Hinton. I enjoyed "Daniel Boone" on broadcast television and in nostalgia with Me TV before I finally bought the complete series on DVD. I read in the comments about a rivalry between Patricia Blair and Veronica Cartwright that forced Jemima off the show. Is that true? I liked both actresses and their characters and was disappointed when Jemima disappeared in the middle of the series. I would like to learn more about that. Also, I was a fan of Jeff York who seemed to always play a mountain man type. I saw him on "Davy Crockett" as Mike Fink, on "Daniel Boone," and on "Zorro" and he always seemed cast in that type of role.
