I think it goes even farther then schools. It sometimes might be over dramatized in series, but it happens everywhere. In the workplace, home and in public. But the moment it gets accepted by society, is when this really becomes an issue. Not exclusive to (most) Asia countries, but being rich/well of or from a family with a good reputation gives them often more room for....making "mistakes". The responsibility is everyones, especially parents, school's system, students and society at large. I think the main problem is the system. The teachers should take hand on this, not just by punishing bullying so they can understand their actions have consequences. But counseling as well, because bullying isn't always about kids misbehaving, it can be a sign of violence within the student's house, it could be anger issues, it could be a mental disorder, or directly just an attention call from the student. Then the topic enters again: acknowledging mental health and its importance, as well as checking students to be able to spot possible victims and possible perpetrators at time.

This was B.S. The problem lies in the Korean society. It is normal for them to be judgmental thus getting in their feelings regarding someone triggering them for whatever reason. The hierarchy of age contributes greatly. First impressions in Korea is very important so if someone has a bad impression of you then y'all know what happens rumors + bullying. Social status. Someones demeanor. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were bullies or at least bystanders. Just like so many of us in school. It's not just the teachers, it's a whole system that's put in place. i feel like we need a larger vocabulary to discuss bullying - grouping a huge range of activities together under one word can be damaging. Or, at least, we should acknowledge that there is a huge grey area between, one on end of the spectrum, eg, teasing someone for a day vs. physically and verbally harassing them for years on end on the other. I think almost everyone has been both victim and perpetrator of some degree of bullying so it's important to get the specific details. Also, I'm thinking when the victim of ANY level of bullying is suddenly forced to see their bully on TV shows, commercials, etc. it could have an amplifying effect so the wound leftover from the bullying starts hurting more/again. Either way, I think in the case of these idols, if they did in fact cause an emotional wound in someone that isn't healing on it's own, they could maybe go to counseling with the victim to work through everything together. That kind of stuff really works. I think that would be more satisfying for everyone than a monetary settlement and all of these idols are taking a break from activities anyway.
@ebt42433 жыл бұрын
There is bullying in the schools in the US. Not as bad as Korea, most of it is verbal abuse, not physical. Usually behind the teachers back, but even when teachers know about it, they don't know how to stop it. I was bullied for 1/2 a year in high school. Now I can't stand it if anyone teases me, I try not to be so sensitive about it, when I know someone is just joking, but I always end up with my feelings hurt. As far my bullies, I hope they realize what they did was wrong and they don't treat other people like that anymore, but I want nothing to do with them. Not even an apology. An apology is not going to change anything that happened in the past. But it would definitely upset me to see them as a celebrity living their life, with all these people thinking they are wonderful. So I can understand the need for people to expose bullies. I hope that things get better in Korean schools, that there is less bullying. But it has to start at home with the parents, because that's who kids learn how to behave from.

Of course bullying is world wide, but bullying in korea is so severe. I mean it's such a small country yet so many stars are accused of bullying and a lot have actually been proven right.
@SliverOfSilverStars3 жыл бұрын
I think bullying is complex. It shouldn't be but it is. Firstly, what is defined as bullying? Obviously physical violence and emotional abuse and manipulation, but I think there are some cases where there are misunderstandings and small incidents or disagreements between kids that were hurtful and never resolved and I think some people improperly categorize that as bullying. Misunderstandings and disagreements are normal parts of human existence, and while they may be hurtful, they are not an example of malicious bullying. Secondly, we have to ask why bullying happens. It's usually a mixture of things like the bully has a rough home life, has experienced trauma from trusted adults in their life, peer pressure, societal pressure, personal insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. So then those are the issues that need to be tackled, because hurt people continue to hurt people and that cycle needs to be broken. I think seeking help through therapy and empowering people to get mental health services is an important tool in combating bullying. Parents need to seek help with their own trauma from family and society so that they minimize the generational trauma they pass down. Plus, parents and teachers need to be held accountable, because, while kids should be accountable, it's the job of teachers and parents to hold that accountability, teach them how and why what they did is wrong, and then redirect them on a better path. When bullying happens, ideally, there should be interventions with people who specialize in child behavior, crises, and mental health. Provide the victim with support and safety and proper coping methods. But also to teach bullies to think more critically about why and how they are behaving (what makes them feel like they want to be hurtful) and then work on that root issue. And kids need to learn to respect boundaries that other kids set when they say they are hurt or uncomfortable, but it's hard to learn that when it is not modeled. I suppose this is a pretty idealistic way of viewing the issue, especially since it seems that no country has figured out how to perfectly deal with bullying, but idk, we have to start somewhere and better access to mental health services and de-stigmatizing those services seems like a good place to start. As a side note, what about adult on child bullying? Like yes some of these idols probably partook in bullying, but what about the dark spots of the global entertainment industry? Some of these idols have probably experienced bullying at the hands of adults and staff within their companies: horrible and repetitive comments about their appearances, encouraging body image issues through dangerous dieting methods, physical violence to children, sometimes even sexual exploitation. And kids are just supposed to deal with it all so they can debut. I'm pretty sure that stuff can be similarly categorized as extreme bullying and more energy should be focused on that as well. Edit: Idk why I'm writing like a full on essay on bullying in the youtube comments, yet here I am

I'm from a part of the world where bullying wasn't really a thing, like taking people's money or beating them up for no reason. So i couldn't understand why it was such a big deal till watching this video. I do feel bad for the victims, but the problem with outing the issue now and on social media rather than earlier on, it makes me feel like the victims want revenge or a take down or to ruin the persons image, rather than a sincere apology. Its human nature to want to hurt the ones who hurt us. But at the same time no one wins. Matters like this should be handled privately if possible. Also alot of victims over emphasize and lie about situations. So a shove turned into "that person hit me", since it would have been years ago. We should kinda take things with a grain of salt and also don't judge adults based on how they behaved as children or teenagers. It's not fair to them.

It's easy to drown into their hatred and anger especially if their bullies turned out to be successful and loved by thousands if not millions of people. It's hard to come to the fact that they're a better person now since they didn't make an effort to apologize to the people they've wronged in the past. Which is understandable, rarely people want to face their past and realize they were the bad guy in somebody else's life story and they chose to reflect in silence. I also wish these matters were handled privately but I can understand how the urge to take revenge developed in them.

@@xyz-hs9ix Yes they have suffered. But i think my gripe is also with society who can so easily judge a person based on their past. It does depend on the severity of the action but for someone to be at risk of losing all they've worked for and be discredited because of what they did as a teenager seems unfair. Its like i am several years into my career, and a past classmate came to my workplace to tell my boss I had hit them and took their money in high school so i should be fired or suspended, and then all my coworkers and people agree. I would apologize sincerely but i can't be punished for it by my job.
@xyz-hs9ix3 жыл бұрын
@@rahgc4444 yeah it's not a black and white issue at all. When the bully and the bullied are still at school it's easy to give proper punishment accordingly (something that schools often fail to do, which gives more power to the bully and make the bullied helpless and the cycle continues) but when it's into adulthood... It's such a complicated matter. The bully shouldn't lose its job especially in this economy but on the other hand all they can offer the victim is an apology which doesn't fix everything but at least gives them closure. The apology wouldn't fix their ruined school days or the trauma that caused them but there's truly nothing else that can be done. The victims really do get the short end of the stick eventually.
@franciscojavier81403 жыл бұрын
@@rahgc4444 you said "for someone to be at risk of losing all they've worked for and be discredited because of what they did as a teenager seems unfair." but have you thought that their actions of the past could've pushed someone towards suicide? they might be at risk of losing their jobs now or whatever but the people that were bullied were probably thinking of suicide at one point and even if they're alive now or didn't think about suicide they definitely have some kind of ptsd or problem because of the bullying. also you're just trying to not be hard on yourself because you were the bully and not the one being bullied lol i personally wouldn't have done what your coworker did but just imagine how much that single event marked them for them to even remember it after all the time that has passed also i think it's funny that you said "I'm from a part of the world where bullying wasn't really a thing, like taking people's money or beating them up for no reason" but then you later you said "a past classmate came to my workplace to tell my boss I had hit them and took their money in high school " so you did that for what reason? lol
@rahgc44443 жыл бұрын
@@franciscojavier8140 it's actually an example i was giving about the work situation. And i stand by my point. Depending how severe your actions where, your job now should not be so influenced by who you were as a child/teenager, especially if you no longer acted the way you did. The bully should acknowledge the wrong they did privately and apologize. But the bully even if they caused the situation or put the victim in a situation isn't actually in control of the victim's mental health. That might sound harsh but it's true. So the bully could be sincere in their apology and the victim still feels wronged and suicidal, then what? Is it only when the bully loses all they've worked for that the victim will be free of their past? Come on now. Its more so though society than the victim themselves as I'd said before that calls for the ostracizing of the rich and famous when their past is brought to light, and that is something i disagree with.

Celebrities who have been blamed for bullying should start lobbying to implement some programs in schools regarding bullying awareness. That would be a good way to redeem themselves.
@cassiescotland67543 жыл бұрын
@Callie Santana I agree especially the celebs who have admitted and celebs in general, that would be a way of showing understanding from the victims point and also where celebrities are bullied too by fans or nonfans. Use their platform to speak for the voiceless many who are enduring right now and delve deeper into the issues of the bully's behavior. Look at the cost!! Surely it's worthwhile. The topic is ripe in Korea right now and an Ideal way to start the conversion and give voice to all concerned. It may not stop incidents entirely, but it will sow seeds of change and demonstrate genuine action to be part of the solution. Do something with the hiatus taken and the influence they have.

Possibly unpopular opinion, but I don't entirely understand why they feel like they have to be so harsh in punishing these people. Before anyone says anything, I do NOT condone bullying in any way. But I also believe that it should be stopped and dealt with when it's happening and not 5, 10, or 20 years later. The school systems, teachers, parents, and peers clearly would much rather just not talk about it than deal with it. If these celebrities are *currently* bullying others, that's a different story altogether, but they are accused of being a**holes in middle school and high school. Everybody was, at some point, to some one, an a**hole at that age. While maybe an apology was perhaps never given in the past, I believe that more than half of being sorry is changing your ways - so if they have matured into a respectful adult who treats others well, then I personally think that speaks louder than a formal apology. I was bullied *quite a bit* in school too, for many years. To be perfectly honest, I would be happy for those bullies to achieve success in their lives *IF* they have actually changed and legitimately no longer act that way towards other people. I would much, MUCH rather see them living a respectful life than hear them tell me they are sorry face to face, regardless of the sincerity of the apology. I know in my heart that if they have truly changed their behavior and demeanor...they ARE sorry, whether they have said it out loud or not. It's easy for a kid to be an a**hole in school, but it's hard for that same kid to go on to become a decent person I think we need to give them a bit of a break and look at how they are currently living their lives, that's the only way if you can tell they are truly sorry

Some of these victims are saying that these things happened to them when they were children in ELEMENTARY school!!! AND you are saying that this is such a problem that these actors can NEVER recover their careers because of something they did when they were immature children!? I was a victim of both school bullying and parental child abuse. It took seeking help from a mental health professional to help me deal with it. I was able to forgive the Bully but not the parental abuse. Even though it was very hard to even talk to my parents it was the Mental Health Professional that helped me be able to do that.

I personally don't think there is any point in focusing so much on the celebrities and if they should be allowed to continue their careers or whatever. Is this really solving the problem? Most likely they are not the same immature person they were when they were 16 or younger, so what is the point of chastising them and pushing for severe punishment? It won't solve the bullying problem, because when you're a kid and want to bully someone, you're not thinking of how it could possibly affect your career 10, 20, 30 years down the line. They're kids, their brains aren't developed to that point to think like that. Something needs to be done about the bullying WHILE it's happening, otherwise it is simply too late. And I'm not saying that you aren't allowed to stop liking a celebrity if something like this happens and it rubs you the wrong way. That's your opinion and your choice, but don't make it your mission to take them down. It really isn't solving anything at all, your energy is best spent elsewhere.

Bullying is not right and it should not happen in schools the places where young people proceed the education physically, mentally, socially. Good education results good outcome of students. In most cases, school bullying happens due to the upbringing of the student who got bullied at home. Integrative approach should be conducted (school, parents and community).
