@astroingrid3 жыл бұрын
I really want to move out soon. How are you doing it? How did you get the apartment?
@gr8thx1283 жыл бұрын
@@miranditaaa4086 I’m a server!! I started working at 16 as a hostess and moved up from there and now I’m 18 and a server at the same restaurant. I make around $1000 on a good weekend and I have a roommate who is in car sales. our rent is roughly $1600 and all of my phone, car, car insurance, ect bills are about $600 per month. So in an entire month all I have to do is make roughly $1400 (split rent in half 800+600) and i can still live on my own. basically I’m just super lucky to be where I am and work 6 days a week. I also live in minnesota which is one of the states with a higher cost of living so it’s definitely doable, but ofc there’s lots of privilege that has afforded me to be where I am. I haven’t had to pay any bills up until a few months ago when I started paying my phone, car, ect and so it’s easy to save. The best tip I can give is to put all of your paychecks directly into your savings account and just never touch it. Imagine it as money you don’t have. Same thing with cash. Stash the hundreds and make the tens stretch and all of the sudden you’ll have 1000s. To put it in perspective, I just started serving in the beginning of March and I’ve already made $4000 on top of the $2000 I already had saved. And another thing is, once you know you need to save money, it’s super easy. Live like you’re broke. Stop eating fast food when you know you have noodles you can boil at home. Don’t go thrifting or buying new clothes when you know you’re just gonna pack and move it all out anyways. Hope this helps!!
@gr8thx1283 жыл бұрын
@@astroingrid I just replied to the other comment on how I’m doing it but getting an apartment is so easy. Everyone really makes it out to be this super difficult thing but it’s really not. It’s optimal to have a roommate because then when you’re applying, they look at your combined income (which will obviously be more and then all they see is that you’re able to pay the rent). If you don’t have credit or a renters history, which you wouldn’t because you’re just turning 18 and just getting your first apartment, they’ll ask you to put more money into your security deposit or have a co-signer with credit (a parent or guardian typically). Me and my roommate decided to just put more money down because we could afford it and we don’t want any ties or have to owe anything to our parents. Basically 1. Set your budget. Realistically how much do you make in a month and can you afford to pay electrical, water, gas, rent, phone, car, insurance, groceries, ect. And even all of that looks like a lot but putting it into perspective: you’ll have two incomes (roommate) and all of those things are usually less than $2000 a month. 2. Look for apartments (apartment list is a great app for this) and find a few that you like. 3. Choose one to apply to. The application fees are a bitch and are often a couple hundred dollars. If you get accepted, great! They’ll put the money into your security deposit. If you get rejected, you get your money back. I got accepted into both places I applied for even though I don’t have a credit score OR renters history. Mainly because me and my roommate make enough money to pay the rent. That’s really all it takes. 4. Go on a tour (you can go before or after submitting the application, typically go before to see if you’d actually want to live there) 5. Start planning the move I probably missed a lot so if you have anymore questions just dm me on instagram @kayli0128 I hope this helped a little!!

I feel your struggle regarding cooking... It's hard to find motivation when it's just you. Cooking for one basicaly requires the same amount of work as cooking for 2,3 or more. You have to do all the same steps, you just make smaller portions of everything and sometimes it"s hard to find motivation for all of that just for yourself...

When I lived with my parents I would grocery shop and make food occasionally for everyone so it was a really easy transition when I moved out. I now see the importance of parents teaching their kids to cook. Also I don't like cooked oatmeal because of the texture. I like it raw (like cereal) or in milkshakes.
