The makers in America --- Harley and Indian, are selling "attitude". The last Indian ad I saw said the word "attitude" like 5 times. The last thing our societies need is more morons with an attitude. But a gentleman's bike? That goes too far the other way. There must be some kind of happy medium

Before I bought my R18, I test rode several cruiser/retro style bikes including Harley’s & Indians. The two finalists for me were the Triumph Bobber & the R18. I found the Triumph was sportier feeling with the steeper rake and lighter weight. It wanted to turn more easily. It had a great exhaust note with the stock pipes. But, the R18 between 3000 and 4000 RPM has such a wonderful rumble that I literally laugh out loud each time I hit that portion of the rev range. I still may add the Triumph to the garage at some point, perhaps to replace my sport bike. But between the two, the R18 was my pick.

I chose the Speedmaster. Just picked up the black and white three weeks ago. Couldn’t be happier. I still remember being a kid, pushing my lawn mower to mow another house and seeing a metallic brown Bonneville (650 I believe) for sale on a front lawn. I’ve wanted one ever since. Finally did it.

I love these bikes, they're both beautiful, but for me, as a taller rider, I'd prefer the BMW. It's pure class and lovely to behold. For polishing chrome, especially if it's a bit manky or rusty, the trick I learned is to make a decent sized pad of aluminium foil, dip it into some water, and scrub the chrome as hard as you like. The aluminum, being softer than the chrome plate, combined with the water which acts as a lube, breaks down to form aluminum oxide which acts as a polishing paste. It works really well with stubborn spots. Have you guys tested the Kawasaki z900rs yet? It's lovely, and a great tribute to the 70s Z1, a sort of UJM modern classic. My pick for Darcy's new steed: Moto Guzzi V7. I think he's hooked.

My gentleman's motorcycle is my H-D Road King, every time I open the garage door and look at it I smile, it' looks fantastic is lovely to ride and handles really well for its size, on the subject of grounding out the R18 , it may not be a sportsbike however if you watch fellow content creator Tea Pot One's channel there was a gentlemen on one of his tours of Scotland that was riding his R18 as though it was a Supermotard, very impressive. As for Darcy's new toy, I will go left field and say Kawasaki Z900RS

I bought an R18 First Edition on the back of your and Freddie's reviews. I also watched Andy Missenden ride one and as he's my size (as did Kate) I thought if they can so can I. This bike brings me to my garage daily just to stand there and admire as a piece of engineering art. It has the BMW Custom Sunset paint which is a stunner in the metal. Great video, gentlemen! One comment: I own a T100 and a Speedmaster. If the Speedmaster sat as tall as the T100, as the Ol' Man suggested, it would pretty much be a T120. A big part of what makes the Speedmaster the cruiser that it is is its low stance. Take that away and it's just another model in the Bonneville lineup.

Both are beautiful bikes but I know I would grow weary of their bulk and resultant cumbersomeness over time as I did with my new 2017 Triumph T120. I knew straight away that I made a mistake buying the T120 and should have gone for a Thruxton R. I later bought a Thruxton R and then owned both for a few years. I have other bikes too. In 2022 I traded my T120 in for a new Panigale V2 Bayliss. I like modern classic bikes but when you also have full fat sportbikes and Ducati Monsters etc you realise how limited they are compared to them. The Thruxton is the closest to a proper sports bike and I love it for that. I still have my Thruxton btw.

Interesting concept, the "Gentleman's bike". So many people over here (US) try to make their Road/Street Glides look as "tough" as possible, sharp spikes all over, aggressive decals and such, but then they're blasting pop-country on the speakers lol. But I get a ton of compliments on my Hydra-Glide Revival and my RE Classic 350, I think because it's just a nice looking machine with a nice color. Not trying to impress or scare anyone, just there to enjoy itself. I think the "non-rider" crowd appreciates the look and approachable style moreso than the "watch out I'm scary don't get too close" attitude many of these bikes aim for. Never thought about it but yeah, maybe the "gentleman's motorcycle" is something worth discussing. Maybe it's okay to just be a good, solid dude on a nice looking machine, rather than try to cosplay a stereotypical tough guy biker all the time and spend thousands making yourself look "scary" at red lights lol

I believe Mr Darcy will take delivery of a certain Italian Transverse V-twin with a Stone livery. When it comes to the choice of Speedmaster vs. R18... I'm 6'8" and I think the triumph is too small. But I've ridden the lovely R18 and it's also too cramped. I'm in to cruisers mainly and I've gone from a Suzuki VL1500 to a Yamaha XVS1100 to another VL1500 and now I've ended up on an truly amazing bike. The 2011 Victory Cross Roads. the 106cui engine produces about the same power as the R18, and weighs about the same. But the experience of riding is so much better. It's got air suspension in the back that gives it superior handling and lean angle. The only Cruiser I can think of that matches it is the Honda XVS1800. That thing is next level. Well, maybe the Triumph Rocket 3 GT is even better. (My dream bike, yeah)

A chav leans forwards and tucks beneath the fairing. A would be gentleman sits upright… and a true gentleman has footboards and sits proud!

Enjoying the videos from across the pond 🇺🇸. As for gentlemen cruiser’s, they both qualify well. However, if you threw a HD Breakout in the mix, especially in the Blue Burst color, which gentalmans cruiser would get the most comments? I know Darcy won’t be getting a Harley, so Ducati Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour is my off the wall guess

Great review! Both fine machines, I love riding my speedmaster since 2023, but my next bike could be the R18. Not a big fan of the UK rego plates

Yeah. I would have to go with BMW. Looks perfect. Plus, it's fun to ride a big old monster bike!

Considering the R18 is a used motorcycle (I forget get how long the Ol' man has owned it), it is in stunningly beautiful condition and incredibly clean. An absolute masterpiece of design, but too heavy for me. I don't understand why Triumph didn't put a polished metal clock similar to the metal clocks on the T100 and T120. A false economy. I can imagine owning a Speedmaster if my knees get to achy for the regular riding position. Also congratulations on a beautiful location for this review.

R18 for me, as I have done as well. Got a deal on an unused Classic from the dealer. Fantastic and characterful bike, I think of it as a muscle car (bike) with what it offers. Btw the Classic’s simple exhaust is a fair bit louder and deeper than the Pure model, but you lose the fishtail. Thanks for your videos and insight.

Any bike's a "Gentleman's Bike" if one of the two of you lads are riding it 👍

Darcy did say that he really loved the Moto Guzzi V7 Special, but perhaps he might go for the new BMW R12 (not the nine T).

I've been driving my R18 for three years and I still haven't gotten tired of it. I guess you haven't either? You can test drive lots of things, but I'm sticking with the R 18.
