Literally jumped out of my chair in praise during the “Does he even like me?” part. This is absolutely a question women are asking themselves these days because it doesn’t seem like men actually like who we are. We get into relationships with men and it becomes about what we can provide for them: companionship, intimacy, catharsis. You can get those things from so many other women. So, the question we’re asking our men is why do you want ME in your life? And the disappointing part is that a lot of men cannot tell you because it’s a question they’ve never asked themselves.

I thought I was the only who thought this for a while until I encountered more women from various backgrounds who had the same question. We can’t all be picking “bad guys” if so many of us are asking the same question…

Liz' comment at 27:09 "good men do bad things" shot right thru my heart. Those good men could still have some ego issues that prevent them from seeing their mistakes

Whew! Andy, a brilliant poem to start a concert. Jamey, I feel such hope with these conversations.Liz, your addressing if men like women was so important. This little statement I wrote when my two children were in their teens: When you go out with someone, Remember that this person Has hopes and dreams, Has had good days and bad days Has had holidays and birthdays, Has talents and capacity, Has plans. Treat this person well, With respect.

Regarding the part about "Does he even like me," I often wonder if we (as men) aren't using women to validate our status amongst other men. One thing that comes to mind is a man driving a truck that's lifted with a loud exhaust and stereo system. At 44, I have not met many women who appreciate those things. There are some, but the majority of the ladies I've brought this up to appear frustrated by their partners car. It leads me to think, instead of asking our partner, we (men) are simply trying to "flex" against other males. Conversely, seeing ladies wear Ugg boots and Down Feather Vests here in October reminds me that it's not just associated with men. It's 70 degrees here in Las Vegas and yet there's so many ladies wearing that outfit just because it's fall. I wonder what causes that to happen.

To really understand the relationship between divine feminine and divine masculine and how Indigenous spirituality shapes gender equality, everything from everyday language and division of labor to leadership in government, please bring on Indigenous speakers. For thousands of years, many of our Indigenous communities were matrilineal and matrifocal societies. My own Indigenous Taíno ancestors, for example, reflected true gender equality through their origin stories, language, and governmental structure, where male and females were chiefs. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy also reflects this perspective of gender equality through their system of government, where a council of grandmothers (the clan leaders) elected a male chief for representation and could recall him at any time if he didn't serve his people. The US borrowed much of their system (except for women's participation, of course) when establishing our system of government. Moreover, Haudenosaunee women inspired our own women's suffrage movement.

We agree! Thank you for sharing. We have invited a number of indigenous people and are working out the schedules. It will happen soon. Such important perspectives to add to this conversation.

Brilliant 🤩 as usual. I have often asked if men even like women. I’m always hopeful and an informed romantic. The episode with Scott Galloway shares some insight into why there may be a disconnect. ❤🎉

I very much feel like men don’t like me. They want to have sex with me, they want to have my partnership, but my experience is they don’t enjoy my company, they don’t respect my interests, they don’t respect me in general, unless I am performing femininity, I’m often disrespected. I love my partner, but it is hard. It is just hard.

@mariazendeh66442 жыл бұрын
I know this is a podcast focusing on man, but can I just say that women also struggle with being feminine. Media tries to sell us that being a strong woman is being like "the man" and a lot of young girls are confused. Society doesn't value Femininity. We don't teach the men the protect and treasure femininity. Yes, there are more female main characters. But most of them are fighters and rebels and show "typical masculine" behavior. Where are the female role models who save the world by bringing people together, by being compassionate and creative? "do men even like women?" I would say they don't really know what the power of women is and why it is beautiful, because where would they have experienced it? You can't talk about masculinity without femininity. They are two wings of the same bird and you need one to balance out the other. But how do you explain a bird that has never been in the air the beauty of flying?

When Liz asks "Do men even like women?" that's a symptom and byproduct of the patriarchy. We are conditioned to believe women are less than and therefore when they challenge us to be better, we call it "nagging" and dismiss it. Jamey talks about men knowing they need to do more domestic work but choosing not to, that's a form of weaponized incompetence. I fall into the trap too often of "why would I deep clean the living room or shower when my wife is better at it?" But as he says, these are just excuses.

Thank you for the honest response. We have to keep pushing ourselves out of our defaults and recognize when they might be negatively affecting others.
