Are you an interesting person? Do you have interesting ancestors? Today I'm talking about a kid's history essay contest (not my kids yet! 😁) and a quote from George Eliot about "those who have lived faithfully a hidden life.”
❤ to you all! Hope you have a great day.

Laura you said it perfectly, it’s the small things that we do each day that make a difference! Treasure family & friends, neighbors, Mother Earth and each and every creature we come across daily.

I was a teacher of kids with severe learning disabilities for many years (retired now 👍) but I still remember the massive lift I used to get from pupils achieving even the tiniest goals. Yes, of course, world changing achievements are wonderful but some of us are put on this earth just to help with the little things. Thanks, Laura, and I wish you and your family well

I'm a historian and my dissertation was all about collecting oral histories of people in the local area. I had many say "oh well I never did anything interesting" and I always replied "but did you do things you enjoyed? You were alive before me, I'm interested in that. Tell me what life was like when you were a kid. What did you do for fun?" And once people got talking I'd end up having to come back to learn more because their everyday life is so interesting. Learning the little things like who made the curtains at my church or why did they choose that career is so important to the social history of our world.

That sound like some amazing work that you are doing! I am familiar with oral histories and have done a little of that myself. We have so much that we can learn from the older generation! Stay well

Love your chats! Another inspiring conscientious objector: "Desmond Thomas Doss (February 7, 1919 - March 23, 2006)[1] was a United States Army corporal who served as a combat medic with an infantry company in World War II. He was twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions in Guam and the Philippines. Doss further distinguished himself in the Battle of Okinawa by saving 75 men,[a] becoming the only conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions during the war.[b] His life has been the subject of books, the documentary The Conscientious Objector, and the 2016 Oscar-winning film Hacksaw Ridge, where he was portrayed by Andrew Garfield." I think you would like the life of St Therese of Lisieux. When she died (at the age of 24) her fellow nuns didn't know what to write about her life as it had been so unremarkable. But she still became a great saint in the Catholic Church.

Hi Laura what do you say to your kids young and old about what is happening overseas and about the violence that is going on? How are you explaining this issue? My child is gifted (high school) and l have tried to shelter him as much as l can from what is going on overseas but we have family in Germany and Estonia we worry about them. How does your community handle these issues for young and older children?

Such good questions Sonia! I feel like I wouldn't be able to do justice to them in text form, hoping to do a Q&A soon! Stay well and I'm praying for your family overseas.
