People need to realize that today’s models are “boring” because that’s what the industry wants. Every 10 or so year a new walk, a new look and a new style takes over the industry. 90s modeling wasn’t like 70s modeling just like today’s modeling isn’t like the 90s If the industry wanted the 90s walk that’s what it would be today, but it isn’t and that’s for a reason
@chrystianaw82562 жыл бұрын
That's true and most people know that. But it's still boring. 90s models brought the clothes alive.
@elizabethjean27092 жыл бұрын
a few months ago, a came across a video comparing Kendall Jenner and Naomi Campbell. it was cruel. i am a mother now and made it a point to share this intent with my daughter. it's not that Kendall is not beautiful or can't walk.... they are not the same. period. women were more celebrated in the past for what womanhood is intrinsically about. no one can change the age they were born to. all we can do is remain true to who we really are. and if we succeed, we will be remembered. it. is. that. simple.

They are also trying too hard top be "diverse" meaning they have far too many models who are not there because their looks tell story, and enhance the vision of the designer, but because they are big, or non white, or not feminine.
@jaradaniels92894 ай бұрын
It's also because back then the models the supers were getting more attention and talk then the actual clothes. They don't want the models taking away from the clothing. That's why generally runway models aren't as attractive as commercial and editorial models. This is how it was when I was modeling from 1999-2009.
@0812imterri2 жыл бұрын
We will never have supermodels like this ever again for two simple reasons: social media and nepotism. These models gained the notariety and fame themselves, because they genuinely have "it." Not because of how many followers they have on IG or because their parents gave them a leg up into the industry or have a famous last name. These women actually HAVE IT. The models today didn't need to prove anything to get the fame they now have. And what's sad is the models today who may have "it," may not get the same attention as other more famous models, simply because they don't have the same following or famous family.

I think its telling that people can name more models from the early 90's than prominent designers. That's why designers pick clothes hangers for the runway and influencers for their campaigns, to balance that narrative. Ask someone on the street who Naomi Campbell is and most will understand.....ask that same person who Claude Montana is.....

nice video, nice analysis, and they do stand out because they don't all try to look alike, contour alike and inject alike as those of today, BUT. When the 1st model talks about the museum, she says something stupid, and because she's so beautiful nobody notices. When NC is cocky( different than confident) and a bit mouthy, nobody cares becasue she's so beautiful,. it is REALLY about natural beauty, height( people notice tall people, and if Kate Moss hadn't been advertised as heavily when she won the lottery to be 'discovered', she would have and is now forgotten) youth and the rest is 'meh' but people are impressed because they project their awe of just beauty and youth to anything else.

Peter Lindbergh’s January Vogue UK cover and George Michael’s “Freedom! 90’” music video are what started the supermodels. This video fails to tell that part of history and all but cancels Tatjana Patitz who was part of “the big five.” History must be told accurately. I’m sure Kate and Claudia would agree.
@CleverAndChic2 жыл бұрын
This isn’t a history of the supermodel video. That dates back to 1891 and would be an entirely different video. This is covering the supermodel aesthetic (style, beauty, attitude as the thumbnail says) that is often referenced today

I applaud your vast knowledge. But there is a bias and inaccuracy in your narrative - in the name of style. No matter how much or how little history you share (it’s actually a lot in this video) there is incorrect information here. Facts are left out - which is irresponsible to those here to learn, and clear to those who know the truth. Can’t quite figure out why someone would go to such lengths to produce such a video, then all but cancel one of the key figures of that era of “Freedom! 90.” It doesn’t take away any achievements from Claudia or Kate to include Tatjana. I hope you can respect my opinion as I love this special era as much as you do.
@CleverAndChic2 жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion and can see how passionate you are on the subject as well as the love we share for the era. I appreciate comments like this so that viewers can learn more than what is purely in the videos on the channel. It is a KZbin video and there is only so much to be included in the 10 minutes, so of course this cannot capture everything. I truly had no ill intent with leaving her out and it is a lot of work to produce, so I have to pick and choose what to focus on. As an image consultant I feel more comfortable teaching my area of expertise as I know I don’t know everything nor will I pretend to, I hope this is understandable.
