I've always believed that Christian is one of the most criminally underrated wrestlers I've ever seen. Him losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Orton right after winning it legitimately upset me so much that I didn't watch WWE for a month.😂 Thanks for putting this video together, Jack!
@jimmyrolls373 жыл бұрын
Yep. The day christian lost the title to orton on smackdown i quit watching wwe for a few years. Not cuz he lost it, but cuz he lost it so fast that it was insulting after such a journey. Granted, i missed one hell of a rivalry that followed, but it has always been apparent that wwe never had enough faith in him, despite him giving them gold even in the smallest of feuds they put him in. His crappy ddp storyline? Good match. The face of the crappy ecw? He gave great matches there too. Christian is as good as you can get, and anytime he is not in wwe, he has the chance to remind people of that fact

Not to mention built some of the biggest home grown stars like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Abyss, Awesome Kong, and so on. IMO the main reason people rag on TNA being such a laughing stock is what Dixie Carter did to it when she bought it out. The best thing that ever happened to the company was when she was finally forced to sell it due to her hemorrhaging so much money due to her years of mismanagement and someone else stepping up to rebrand it as Impact Wrestling, naming the promotion after their flagship weekly show. TNA under Jeff Jerrett was good. Impact Wrestling post Dixie seems to have rebounded and survived their near death experience when Dixie ran out of cash.

@@BLCKSMTHApparel For sure. As for EC3, I'd say he made himself a star. He was given the horrendous gimmick of actually being related to DIXIE CARTER! She's hands down the worst wrestling promoter to ever exist. To paraphrase The Hitman, she's the WORST there is, the WORST there was and the WORST there ever will be. She actually made Vince Russo look like a genius by comparison. So to be handed a gimmick of being, I think it was her nephew, and actually making THAT a successful run took genius on the guy playing EC3!

Christian is a funny one for me. I've always likened him to that one team member you have at work whos great at their job, works hard, everyone knows he's good, but he never really gets his praises shouted about and is never in the running when a promotion comes along. The bosses like and value him just where he is, doing the job he's doing. Thats how I kind of feel the WWE saw him. They wanted him in the company. They wanted the great matches from him. They wanted him to get the best out of his opponents. But he was never going to be the focus. Basically WWE wanted him to come to work, do his job and then go home without fuss. Had Edge not had to retire early I honestly do not think they would have ever put the World Title on him even once. I think they felt they kind of had to in a way (maybe out of respect for what had happened with Edge retiring) to fill a gap and as such his time in the main event was fleeting and unsatisfying and they quickly moved on from him with their booking. Why? I always feel that when WWE looks at tag teams they look for 'whos the guy to break out'. With E&C it was clearly Edge that they invested in - King of the Ring, strong Intercontinental title reigns, first MITB, World titles, Royal Rumble wins, Mania main events. In comparison Christian was booked as a solid mid carder, given a few title reigns and got to work with some main eventers on occasion. He was never in their plans to be the focus of the show. For people who don't really get why Christian is so good, if you purely looked on his WWE runs you could be forgiven for not really getting why he is an all time great performer. TNA is where he shone. They saw what Christian could be and they gave him the ball to run with. A lot of people groan at that and say "oh but TNA took lots of WWE mid carders and made them 'main eventers', he was just a big fish in a small pond". While I think that may apply to some ex-WWE guys who made it bigger in other companies I don't think that applies to Christian in TNA. He wasn't just a known commodity that they put in the main event, Christian genuinely carried TNA during his run with them and proved that he belonged in that main event scene. He proved that he could be THE guy. Then when he went back to WWE before winning their World Title he was slotted back into a similar position that he had there before and was once again not the focus. So thats why he's an interesting one for me, its easy to not look at his career as a whole across different promotions and immediately see how great he is. Optimistic that AEW will be able to use him well.

I don't know if this is true, but I'd heard that when WWE were thinking of signing someone who was a bit of an unknown quantity they would put him in the ring with Christian. This video illustrates a great point, that sometimes what makes a wrestler great isn't always the obvious. Not everyone blows the roof off the place just by showing up like Stone Cold, and not everyone can get in the ring with just about anybody and put on an absolute wrestling clinic like Kurt Angle or Bret Hart. With some guys it's more subtle, the little things they do that we don't necessarily even pick up on. Christian is terrific at those little, subtle things. Why would I say Edge is worse than Christian? Am I on crack? No. One was booked to main-event and had obviously the immense pool of memorable segments to be remembered for, the other was hated by his boss despite getting himself over the literal 2 biggest stars of the company in 2005 and outselling them in merchandise. Some people's definition of a star is defined by how good their booking is, Christian peeps recognize his talent regardless and believe otherwise, and that's all I have to say about that.

Christian is a majorly underrated wrestler. And as big of an edge head as I'm a much bigger peep.

Christian is one of the all time greats in terms of talent, skills and ability! On the mic and in the ring, Christian is one of the GOATs. Many people can't understand that not winning all the time in WWE doesn't reflect a wrestler's ability. That's more about Vince's favoritism.

Whenever I think of the word "Charisma" Christian comes to mind. Out of all wrestlers Christian has the most charisma, after all he is known as "Captain Charisma" which fitted him perfectly.

I swear Vince wanted to cover Christian's face with a blue dot on TV because he thought he was ugly or his face annoyed him or something.
@My198120113 жыл бұрын
That is correct, Vince wanted to give him a gimmick of a blue dot over his face whenever he was on air because Vince hated how Christian’s face looked. I always found Christian to be the better of the two between himself and Edge and still do.
