I think you are seeing his point in the wrong context. The whole point of GITA is not to get attached to anyone or anything just live in the moment, own the moment as it's happening and let go when that particular moment ends. Therefore, "having too many people to love you" means lead your life in such way that people start admiring your work and develops respect love towards you irrespective of your monetary possessions and materialistic tags. But at the same time, you don't get succumbed by their love or get attached to it or start expecting anything from them. You acknowledge their love and respect towards and continue with your works.
