In my opinion, the Attitude Era started December 15th 1997. That was the night where Vince cut that promo about the era of the protagonist saying to eat your vitamins and say your prayers being passé, or words to that effect.

Back in the late-90's all the characters had a storyline, but you'd also have interweaving angles throughout the show. The writers understood it was an interconnected universe and not isolated situations.

Even though I wasn’t alive for it, the Raw after WrestleMaina 14 is probably WWE’s best re set episode ever, it was the start of Austin vs McMahon, all the new Attitude Era belts debuted, The Rock took over the Nation Of Domination and then rebranded it the Nation, Triple H took over DX and formed the DX Army, X PAC returned, Austin got arrested, this was also the episode where it set up the Cactus Jack heel turn as he felt over shadowed by Austin and much more. Now I haven’t watched this video yet but I believe this is the episode where Austin Stuns Vince for the first time, Bret is told backstage his deal that expires in 2017 couldn’t be granted, Cactus Jack debuts to face Triple H in what Mick Foley calls his best match in 1997. This was a pretty big Raw, and it was in MSG as well which makes it more special. I think the Raw after WrestleMaina was the kick start of the Attitude Era, 1997 was the transition into it.

I was at the Raw after Summerslam ‘97 a month and a half earlier and that energy was crazy. I remember this particular episode and there was always something happening. That seed that became Austin vs. McMahon was planted right here and-yikes-they let it grow for months until it birthed the most famous wrestling rivalry of all time. Memories.

This is going to sound reductive, but it’s also the truth - the Attitude era gets going from this period because the WWF start overtly, and inadvertently, copying ECW’s booking style. Overtly because ECW/Heyman/McMahon had a working relationship and smaller ties like Russo being a fan of ECW and inadvertently because the roster had seen an influx of guys moving through ECW and working their way up the cars - Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Brian Pillman. Go back and watch the Hardcore TV’s from that brief period where Steve Austin and Brian Pillman were there - the way the storylines interconnect before finally smashing together at the end is the Attitude Era booking. It’s too derivative to ignore.

While it was noted as one of the reasons (somewhat), mentioning Raw being at Madison Square Garden kind of came off as a footnote, when it actually is a more of a big deal. MSG, particularly around this time, was basically quote/unquote "headquarters" for WWF/E, and the most renown wrestling arena in the United States because of their partnership. Even without the Monday Night Wars, it's almost an expectation to step your game up at The Garden considering its rich history, a more proactive host of fans by default, and avalanche of high profile events that was hosted at MSG for almost 3 1/2 decades up to that point.

Yeah ! I Lost my head when Cactus came out ! Even though i kinda saw it coming , id been a huge Cactus fan from various indies i caught late nights on TV or magazines to WCW and ECW to VHS tapes i ordered of him in Japan such as Kawasaki Dream . This video genuinely sucks. I never leave negative comments but wow, you dropped the ball hard. All you had to do was talk about an amazing classic episode of raw. It by default would have been an awesome video because of the subject. But you completely ruined it with your constant need to trashtalk current Raw every 5 seconds.
