@@JungleBunkRootsMusic2022 Not to mention that amazingly fun hardcore triple threat, and the way they break things up with the battle royal and Chyna's squash match. The pacing of the show is top notch, 3 hours just fly by!
@JungleBunkRootsMusic2022
@JungleBunkRootsMusic2022 3 жыл бұрын
@@leerobbo92 wwe needs to learn from this show. Pacing is a huge problem with modern day manias(apart from wm37). Not every match has to be 10+ mins. Give time to the title matches and the grudge matches but keep the small matches short and sweet. I liked wm 37 because both nights flew by and were short.
@leerobbo92
@leerobbo92 3 жыл бұрын
@@JungleBunkRootsMusic2022 Yeah exactly, it's very much a Western problem, same with AEW. Even Benoit and Angle only got 15 minutes, Jericho and Regal had to work with 7 minutes. Top guys, unreal workers with their own fanbases, but WWE understood that everyone was there for TLC2 and Rock-Austin. It's something New Japan understand really well too, only the very top guys ever get more than 15 minutes to work with, and usually they get the full 30 minutes just to make their best seem bigger and better. Always save all the 20 minute matches for the end of the card too. Such a small change makes such a huge psychological difference when watching their events!
@5fing3rD3athPunch
@5fing3rD3athPunch 3 жыл бұрын
the Austin vs Rock video package alone makes WrestleMania X7 one of the greatest, also this event is proof you can have a lot of matches on a card and not have it last 5 hours with fan burnout because not every match needs to go 20 minutes like they do these days and the card builds and builds to the bigger matches and moments whereas today cards are all over the place in terms of pacing.

Can't believe you didn't throw in the Battle of Cannae into your history lesson where Hannibal gained Total victory over the Romans (of the 80,000 Roman troops that started the fight less than 800 survived the battle) akin to the way Vince had achieved Total Victory over WCW.

There was meant to be interference by some of the WCW guys during the Vince vs. Shane match, but Shawn Stasiak blabbed about it during an interview the day before Mania and the whole thing was scrapped. This is why they ended up sat in shitty seats with faces like slapped arses for the match instead.

Only thing that wasn’t great about WMX7 was the storyline build. WWF had such a great first half of 2000 but the second half was a bit of a clusterf*** with Rock a four month champion (good but they used him to build upper mid carders) and a big Stone Cold Triple H feud which effectively ended a month before WM. Angle’s title reign was completely pointless as he wasn’t quite main event tier at that point. They should just have kept the strap on Rock. All of the upper card singles matches were slapped together at the last minute.

I’d say many factors. The build/buzz around the event was at an all time high coming off one of the companies best years ever (2000) and Royal Rumble and No Way Out 2001 being massively praised PPV’s The main event of The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin was massive because they were the companies biggest baby faces (Austin in 1998-1999 and The Rock in 1999-2000). The star power is the biggest a card for a wrestling show has ever been, more so in hindsight because a ton of the wrestlers on this card would go on to win multiple world titles but even just at the time in 2001 they were still big stars because the promotion was so popular that everyone felt like a big deal. It’s why guys like Drew and Roman are struggling to breakout into the main stream because everything around them is so mediocre fans don’t want to be around it. Which is a shame because Drew and Reigns are brilliant. The match quality and PPV structure was also excellent, it all followed nicely and the matches that no one cared about didn’t go long. Like what Jack said about Takeover New Orleans this show whilst is remembered as one of the best wrestling shows ever is also considered the end of the Attitude Era and the beginning of the end of wrestling being massive in pop culture, I would disagree with that because Raw the next night drew well over 5 million viewers (a million more then the previous week) but WWE have never been able to top the near perfectness of this show. They have got close with SummerSlam 2002, WrestleMaina 30, WrestleMaina 19, Money In The Bank 2011 but non have ever had a bigger impact on the business and what it represents more then WrestleMaina 17. I call it WrestleMaina because you don’t call WrestleMaina ‘WrestleMaina XXX’ because that would be silly😂😂

I really like this series. I wonder if it would benefit of having a set of reasons why an event/wrestler is good. I think it could be interesting to see the positives and negatives of each thing and then discuss how despite how it could have some drawbacks, it is still a 'great' With that said, keep up the great work. The content is always great and appreciated.

An entertaining lower card(APA and Tazz vs RTC, Chyna vs Ivory, Eddie Guerrero vs Test), Technical wrestling(Jericho vs Regal, Benoit vs Angle), Hardcore brawling(Shane vs Vince, Big Show vs Kane vs Raven, Dudleys vs Hardys vs Edge and Christian TLC 2), and big main event matches(Triple H vs Undertaker, Austin vs Rock 2).

Wrestling will never be this great again unfortunately. During the Monday Night Wars Era and the Attitude Era, you had 11-14 million people watching wrestling and their pay per views. It just isn’t popular as it once was. Wrestlemania 17 is what Starrcade 1997 should’ve been. The way the Hogan Sting match ended really put a dark cloud over WCW.
