Yes! I don't have any in my collection but the Amscope ones that I've used before were great. Especially that the stereo vision allows you to see your samples in 3D. It's hard to make a choice without knowing the magnification capacity of these microscopes? Can you let us know? Andonstar ADSM302 is sold as a coin dealers microscope so can't be very powerful. Is that right?
@micro_safari
@micro_safari 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great question. The answer is a bit complicated though. I don't give the magnification levels for these microscopes because it is a very misleading number and doesn't actually give you all that much info. The reason it is complicated is because there is "optical magnification" and "apparent magnification". Optical magnification can be mathematically derived from the arrangements of lenses in the microscope, whereas "apparent magnification" is subjective and depends on factors such as how large the digital screen is that you are using to view the image and what resolution you are recording at. I don't ever trust the "apparent magnification" numbers that manufacturers provide. Its also difficult because they don't always say whether or not the magnification value that they are giving is actually apparent or true optical. There are many more factors that influence the end viewing quality and experience for the user that go beyond just magnification levels as well. One day I may make a whole video that explains the nuances of choosing a microscope, or I'll at least put it in a Q&A style video. The ADSM302 has a wide range of magnification and can see down to the sweat glands on your finger or to see medium sized paramecium.

Why did you left out Stereo Microscopes? I think that they are better than the digital ones beacause there is no input lag and of course there are also models avaiable which include a camera bus.
@micro_safari
@micro_safari 3 жыл бұрын
I just simply don't own any stereo microscopes. I plan to remake this video when I have an expanded collection and will include some stereo microscopes. I've only found input lag to be a problem on some cheap USB 2.0 or wifi digital microscopes, or if you don't have enough light on the sample the camera will drop the framerate. I've never had input lag on an HDMI or USB 3.0 digital microscope.

A little critique for your next test: You should clearly say to who the video is for. Who can use which microscope? I'm a scientist and using a lot of professional microscopes from Zeiss. They do their job as good as they can. I also used cheap usb microscopes for more flexible usage in the laboraty. The most important thing to ask first is what do you want? Good images? Flexibility? Anorganic or Organic samples? After you know your answer, then you can start to consider choosing a kind of a microscope.

Great reviews, thanks. I’m looking for a digital microscope with a screen for exploring the natural world with my grandkids. All the scopes I find have an extremely limited field of view. Are there any out there with the sort of view found in dissecting scopes? Examining the texture of a grain of pollen is great, but it would be nice to be able to see an entire beetle, for instance. Any suggestions? What is the maximum fov does the Andonstar provide?
@micro_safari

Hi there! One of the benefits of the Andonstar ADSM302 is that you can change the magnification smoothly through a significant range. From the most zoomed out you could see most, if not all of your pinky on the screen to all the way zoomed in you could see the sweat glands on your pinky. I cannot recommend the ADSM302 enough. Your grandkids will love it and will have a whole world opened to them by that scope.

Is there any microscope sw that allows focus stacking?
@micro_safari
@micro_safari 3 жыл бұрын
Theoretically, you can do focus stacking with any microscope that you can hold the specimen affixed in the X and Y axis and where you have precise control over the Z axis. You of course also need a camera. So for example, you could do rudimentary focus stacking with the Amscope binocular upright microscope that I showed in the video just with a phone eyepiece adapter and the right software. You take many photos at small increments of Z axis height adjustment and then use a focus stacking software to stitch all the images together into a final image.

I didn't realize the difference between the two until you mentioned the difference in one of your videos. I am starting a cell repair shop and will be doing micro soldering. I have already trained my eyes on using a digital microscope vs a stereo microphone. Any info would greatly be appreciated. Ty
@micro_safari
@micro_safari 2 жыл бұрын
The magnification figures that they provide are apparent zoom. Most if not all digital microscope's final apparent zoom is calculated using a combination of their actual optical zoom and their digital sensor pixel size. If you are already used to using a digital microscope to do SMD soldering, you will not be disappointed in the ADSM302. The magnification is range is enough to see cracks in solder joints or part numbers on tiny SMDs, and goes low enough that you can easily do large soldering under it.

@@xnamkcor I believe that the objective you are using requires an extremely short working distance and the glass over your phone screen is preventing it from getting close enough to the LCD/OLED. You should get a stereo microscope somewhere in the 10x - 30x range. 1200x is way overkill for doing manual manipulations under a microscope. I used to do SMD soldering as my full time job a long time ago and you should definitely use a stereo microscope that you look through rather than a digital microscope because you retain 3D vision. This is what I recommend: amscope.com/collections/stereo-microscope/products/se303r-p Also worth noting that the Celestron is talking about 1200x apparent zoom which is not the same as optical zoom. Watch my latest video for more info.

I don't want a mic with a screen, not unless the screen is hi res. Far better to output to a tablet/phone or PC. That way you can take full advantage of the available data.

But can a digital microscope see a blood smear or a sperm? the traditional ones are way stronger... hope there's a digital microscope with the same or higher magnification that can be connected to a big screen or laptop.

I don't really count the digital microscopes as microscopes more of just a zoomed in camera, I mean I could get the shots show here on my phone.

You really didn't grasp that much about microscopes did you? A microscope is really about it's optics not about how digital it is. You can really connect a camera to any "traditional" microscopes and see a thousand times better than the toys you call digital "microscopes". Moreover, you can put really huge sensors on the traditional microscope and see in various ways, filtering, excitation with UV, you name it, things you can only dream of doing with the other toys. The real categories of microscopes should gravitate around the stereo and the mono concepts, and the abilities of having broad and narrow focusing depth , respectively.

I think it is this one: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B089B3KRZH?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title It is not bad. Decent value for the price. Doesn't have an HDMI output though. I recommend. Picture and build quality is not as good as the $250 andonstar but someone that isn't as microscope picky as me will think it is amazing!
