People seem to forget that their confrontation doesn't have to be physical. They could very well meet in some sort of vision or dream. Maybe Kenobi could have a Dagobah-cave-like trial to deal with his guilt and trauma. And Vader just so happens to have another vision (the same one he had in the Soule comics) of him meeting Obi-Wan. Maybe Palpatine could be playing with his mind. There is a way a duel between the two of them could work. They just have to be very careful about it. Though I doubt they will be.
@TheyWantMeGone692 жыл бұрын
The only way it could work would be if Obi Wan has a nightmare about Mustafar, as he turns away from Anakin burning, he hears Vader's breathing, turns back around, sees Vader and then the duel starts. That way he technically has not actually faced Vader since Episode III.

I sorta agree but I think the fanservice things like Ahsoka, Luke, Boba Fett etc have all been an attempt to regain the Star Wars "image" after so many felt disillusioned or downright alienated by the sequels. I see this era as the recovery era. They've relapsed a few times, but you can see a clear attempt at improvement, which gives me hope for the future.

For me, fan serve only works when it achieves something. Luke and Ahsoka in Book of Boba Fett don't. Maybe they could have so much as a conversation about... I dunno Anakin, the Jedi Order, any of their life experiences. Nah. Just stand next to each other for a bit and fans will clap. For comparison, Spider-Man No Way Home has a ton of fan service but it also achieves a ton. Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield give Tom Holland advice, fight alongside him, and even save him from giving in to his anger.

@@ngabel8956The Luke and Ahsoka scenes did achieve something but it was mostly for set-up and it didn't contribute towards the actual show it was in, which is pretty silly. I’ve been keeping up with leaks surrounding this show so if you want to know what to expect going in, here is the basic premise of what happens: Obi-Wan is staying on Tatooine and living in a cave as he is watching over Luke. I assume he communes with Qui-Gon during this time, but I know that Qui Gon doesn’t physically manifest until the end of the series. There’s a Jedi named Nari who has been tracking down Obi-Wan after Order 66 and he finds his way to Tatooine. The Inquisitors are hunting Nari and he’s the reason they find their way to Tatooine. The trailer dialogue of Obi-Wan saying “the fight is done, we lost. Stay hidden” is him speaking to the Jedi. The Third Sister can sense both their presences but the Grand Inquisitor can’t and he tells her she’s basically full of it. Obi-Wan begins to understand his presence on Tatooine places Luke in danger. In the trailer you can see the Third Sister ignite her lightsaber in front of the Jedi who was running away from her. It’s also his body that his hanging in town as the Inquisitors put his corpse on public display. The Inquisitors study the history of the Jedi and the Republic and learn Bail Organa was close to the Jedi, so they kidnap his daughter (Leia) to see who comes for her. Bail seeks out Obi-Wan and asks for his help, so he leaves Tatooine to rescue her. He goes to the place in the trailer that looks like Tokyo or Reno and he meets up with Kumail Najiani who is a contact between Kenobi and Bail. Obi-Wan rescues Leia and this is when Vader learns Obi-Wan is alive. Vader doesn’t show up until the third episode. Vader is in hot pursuit for Obi-Wan and he’s like he was in Rogue One except times 10. He fights Obi-Wan twice in the show, the first fight Obi-Wan wins and escapes. Their final fight is on a moon of Mustafar and it’s what the concept art is from. It took weeks to film and involved a lot of cable work. In the end Vader will believe beyond a shred of a doubt that Kenobi is dead as he slips back into hiding on Tatooine

I dunno, I've got some problems. So the Empire can't find Obi-Wan but some random Jedi can? There is a precedence for this in Rebels, but Ezra and Maul could only find him because of the holocrons and both of them had investments in the new hope / old enemy on Tatooine. Why can the Third Sister sense them when the Grand Inquisitor can't? Why can't anybody sense anything in Leia? (Granted, that's a problem in the OT). If these leaks are true, then it looks like the effort is being put in, and I'll have to wait to see the execution.

The line, at least how I saw it, refers to him leaving the Jedi Order, which Obi wan was part of. He also left Obi wans side when he said "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy". But now, after the show, it still had Obi Wan leave him physically so now the line makes absolutely no sense

@onemoreminute05432 жыл бұрын
@Julian R No, I meant thats what that line from Vader is referring to ; "You shouldn't have come back", as in "You shouldn't have come back to me". I thought Lucas did a pretty good job at recontextualizing the lines in the OT to fit the events of the prequels. The only one I think is a little wobbly is when it's implied that Obi-Wan tried to turn Vader back to the light beforehand. It's more so a case that Padme was the one trying to turn Vader back to the light on Mustafar (the better line would be "Your mother once thought as you did"). Obi-Wan did kind of try to appeal to Anakin on Mustafar,but that was more so trying to make him see logic than any emotional appeal ("Chancellor Palpatine is evil!", "Your new empire?") :)

You are absolutely right. Thank you I think the series should have an arch: Obi wan can learn to move forward and trust in the force with a sad trade off of abandoning the idea of Vader being redeemable. As much as I hate the idea of a great hero having a failed arch I think it would be pretty satisfying here

I respect a person who can convey their views with conviction despite the apparent exhaustion they feel dealing with sycophants. If you view something or someone as perfect then there is no room to adapt and improve. Plus the criticisms regarding the Grand Inquisitor lies primarily with the fact that if the creators don’t have the ability to look back at the source material within their own franchise (Episode III) then what other more egregious concessions are they willing to make. It stings more as you begin to realise that the care you have for the franchise as a fan is not reflected in the creative team that is producing new material. Gatekeeping is not inherently toxic but serves as humbling reminder that these stories are important to many people.

I also dont think there is a single show that had as much of an impact on my child self as The Clone Wars have had. I recently rewatched the whole series and saga as well as Rebels and was genuinely astounded at how little of my interest in the Clone Wars and Star wars in general were nostalgia-based. I agree about what you are calling toxic positivity. In an attempt to ignore what people deem "mindless hate" of bad iterations of old franchises, a lot of people have created an equal and opposite problem. Cultish praise of every aspect of something. A good example is in the Dragon Age fandom. Several big channels will throw out phrases like "the team has a lot of passion for [it]" in order to defend bad writing, animation, etc.

Literally all this show needs to do for me is make sense and have a reason to exist. I didn't really like rebels, but I'm a huge fan of stories that take place in this era of Star Wars, and Obi Wan Kenobi is an awesome character. So long as we don't get a contrived plot featuring no character development and utterly ruining continuity, I'm happy. Also, I love how pretty much every person I've seen talking about this show has professed to being "cautiously optimistic." I think that's a fair place to be.

Disney is gonna probably mess it i'm gonna keep it real. I mean there are simply so many variables, too many areas where they could go wrong very easily messing up the canon. it would've been so easy to make a good boba fett show since all we really knew is that he survived the sarlacc, eventually got his armor back and teamed up with din djarrin and fennec but they still f*cked it up. How are we gonna expect them to deliver on something that has so much more deep lore attached to it.

I def agree with a lot of your gripes and the overly positive no matter what attitude can def be exhausting. However, I really encourage everyone (if you have the will power) to watch a Star Wars show or movie without watching a ton of videos about it before hand or chatting on forums about it. Form your own unaffected opinion about the show first and then go talk about it. The more you hear other people complain or talk positively no matter what ..the more you can’t unlearn what you have learned. One other thing real quick…at least half the reason why TROS is such a mess is because they DID listen to what fans would like and tried to cram it in / make things fit. The other half of the reason is because they didn’t lay out a definitive arc for the story before hand BUT I genuinely think this was done so that they could adjust after seeing fan reactions for each film. For example: “Angry Fans : TFA was a rehash” -Result - The last Jedi with tons of stuff that’s different from anything else to a fault. “Angry Fans : The last Jedi was terrible ..they killed the main villain and sent Finn on a wild goose chase!” -Result - The Rise of Skywalker trying to realign character plots and poke fun at things that people didn’t like in the last Jedi. Disney definitely looks at what the general consensus of complaining fans is and then tries to appease everyone which simply isn’t possible and it ends up pissing people off even more. I don’t think this is something that is going to change because while they want fans to be happy and keep watching, it is a business at the end of the day. If we as fans are going to say “This must happen OR ELSE” ..I mean we are just setting everything up to fail. Just like toxic positivity, if we are talking do or die/make or break without even seeing one episode, how can we expect anything to ever live up to expectations?

Sheev!!! Just found your videos randomly on yt and I'm agreeing with pretty much everything you are saying. The postcard of boba fett we got was a major letdown and gets worse every time I even bother to think about it. I found the wasted potential to be excruciating as I've loved sw for 40 years. I knew tlj was bad to the point I didn't watch it in a cinema. Then I found it to be so utterly poor I have simply refused to ever watch tros as there was nothing that film could do to make the sequel trilogy palatable. Kennedy and co seem intent on destroying legacy characters. This is why I fear for Kenobi and am not looking forward to it. The potential for "Pissney" to f##k this up, knows no boundaries. I am hoping it will be brilliant, but I'm expecting to be reasonably devastated by the end.

I also am cautiously optimistic about this series. There’s 3 ways it can go: 1. It plays it safe and just does fan service (a will probably receive hate over time) 2. It takes big swings (ala TLJ) and divides the fanbase again 3. It’s as middling and forgettable as TBOBF (i cant really see this happening, its obi wan and vader) There is a slight chance that it’ll make every star wars fan happy, but I haven’t seen such a thing happen since clone wars s7. Hoping for the best!

What I want to happen is that Vader is actually a vision constructed by Obi-Wan himself. Remember in the clone wars arc where Yoda has to confront his dark side during his training to become a force ghost? What if Vader is that darkness Kenobi has to face? That would awesome and we could also mix Vader/Anakin’s appearances to flashbacks that way we still get the interactions between Obi-Wan and Vader without messing up the over arching narrative.
@adamabdelrazik27052 жыл бұрын
Something everyone forgets is yoda told obi-wan at the end of ROTS that qui-gon had training for him. We later learn in the clone wars was that this training was to become one with force, a force ghost. It seems noone is even thinking about this, which is a shame because it solves everything you listed in this video. It gives Obi-wan a good reason to leave tatooine, a noncanon, nonnarrative breaking way for vader and obi-wan to fight (maybe in a trial or vision like yoda fighting dooku), and a good way to make this show about the force, which is what I think I want to see the most. This show should be the bridge between prequel and sequel obi-wan, and by focusing on his interaction with the force, you can show prequel obi-wan transitioning into wise old hermit sequel obi-wan.

@Darkwintre2 жыл бұрын
Firstly there must be a good reason why Obi-Wan leaves Tatooine and explain why he doesn't immediately return there. So have Leia kidnapped by Crimson Dawn it's accidental and not deliberate that Obi-Wan is recognised and asked for help. He's about to refuse when Qui-Gon speaks to him this causes him to agree leaving with "Nari" as the Inquisitors arrive who are about to stage a world wide manhunt for Nari when they detect his ship leaving so stop their world wide search to pursue them. We learn Crimson Dawn infiltrated Bail's retinue and only Nari escaped the attack that kidnapped Leia and he ended up on Tattooine repairing ship damage after chasing them. They meet up with a rebel contact let's say Cassian and they learn where she's been taken. Leia is rescued but Maul learns Kenobi is alive and Vader learning about Leia being rescued he gets curious enough to get them to investigate further. Season 2 involves setting up the fight between Maul and Vader leading to Maul fleeing and ended up stranded on Malachor ala Star Wars Rebels. Leave that potential fight between Kenobi and Vader for Season 3. Seriously what we want is a good series and they need to stop paying attention to KK for god's sake!

I already hoped they'd st art with some flashbacks to older moments in the Book of Boba Fett for example. Where I thought they'd do the Cad Bane VS Boba Fett duel in live action, to give us context & Daniel Logan potentially as Boba (he played the kid ver.) again. But even though that didn't happen, I legitimately still have some serious hopes of them giving us some neat Anakin & Obi-Wan flashbacks, in which case they will easily be the best part of the show to me.

When Obi Wan first describes Darth Vader to Luke on Tatooine, it is implied that Obi Wan has a vivid understanding of what Anakin Skywalker has become. “He’s more machine now then man” could be expanded upon in the show if done right. That line of dialogue implies that Obi Wan might have a personal understanding of Anakin’s new persona from meeting him again as Darth Vader.

The issue with the grand inquisitor is simply casting. The actor is Rupert Friend (is that his name i am not 100% sure?) who i know from his role at the titular character in Hitman: Agent 47 (The terrible movie adaptation of one of my favourite game franchise). He plays 47 ok for the script he was given but his head shape is just not it. That's also a major issue with this as the grand inquisitor has a similar head to game-version 47, long bald head with sharp cheekbones and jawline. So why he's been cast as two characters with a completely different head shape to his own idk but that is the issue.

I feel like another reason why they want to reunite Vader and Obi Wan pretty early on again is so that we’re able to know that Obi Wan knows what Vader looks like because if you really think about it Obi Wan never saw the Vader suit and to his knowledge in ROTS Anakin is dead so he wouldn’t really know who Vader is or what he looks like so it would make sense for them to meet again before A New Hope and explain why his reaction isn’t all that surprising when he sees Vader on the Death Star but that’s just my theory

He’s most active in the Kenobi era and anything that goes wrong with the inquisitors, Vader is gonna show up to handle it himself. If there was nothing to protect him from when Vader and the inquisitors are actively looking for force users that would be too convenient for me.

The one and only way I could potentially feel all right about a pre-Death Star Vader/Kenobi meeting would be if they didn't fight each other one on one. If they were to encounter and speak to each other without any actual combat it would (more or less) preserve the impact of the Episode IV meeting. But I doubt it. I doubt this show is going to be good and respect not just the cannon, but the emotional moments in the cannon. I hate saying that, because Ewan McGregor is amazing: he literally carried two and half movies on the strength of his performance, and his respect for the character of Obi-Wan is obvious in every scene he's in. But given the Mouse Wars track record, my hopes for the show are next to nil. I hope I'm wrong--I would love to be wrong. But, well...just look at what they did to Boba Fett.
