Thank you for clarifying the colour transfer myth! I used to work in luxury retail and it was such a common question. Most people definitely do try to blame the bag/leather without realizing their dyed clothing is the primary culprit!

I agree with everything except your last point. I think that we should all spend more to get ethical and sustainable clothing as well. We need to buy far fewer clothing items overall and buy quality items that will last, just like the handbags. Our planet is worth more than a closet and landfills full of fast fashion. ❤️

I agree- I'm all about sustainable fashion and mindful spending and as Amie says you can often wear luxury purchases for decades if you do it right. Like you, I don't like the high street for clothes and that same mindset with accessories can be great for picking high quality classic clothing pieces as well :) The luxury can still elevate an outfit even if it is fulled of high quality basics.

I agree with you about the difference in caviar leather. I have three items of varying ages in caviar and they are all noticeably different.

You mention the quality difference as a component that justifies the price but another important point to note is that luxury products are made by artisans and highly skilled professionals. Often directly employed by the brand, these employees are given fair wages and benefits for their skills. High street brands and even some mid-range brands are often manufactured through unethical means via cheap labour and contracted employees who do not actually care too much about the items they are creating. Comparing the products of luxury fashion houses to those on the high street are like comparing a Michelin star restaurant to McDonald's. Obviously, not everyone can afford luxury and not all luxury is worth the price they are sold for but it is important to keep in mind that luxury brands conduct their business and create their products in a dramatically different way that naturally drives the price of items to be higher as well.

At least in Germany, if there is a fault with an item, the store is required by law to take it back in the first two years, in the first six months you don't even have to prove that it's a manufacturing fault, so I would expect that kind of service regardless of price.

Laura Line in France it’s the same. The store and the brand is required to take it back in the first two years. And for some pricey items the guarantee may be longer. And don’t forget Chanel is a French brand and is required to apply this law.

I am from Tuscany and a friend of mine works for a leather factory. They sell leather stocks to luxury fashion houses and he has told me that there is a huge difference between leathers. I am not going to say the name of the house that buys the worst one, but I can say the one that buys the better one: it’s Chanel.

Def agrees with the leather variation, especially from year to year. My chanel jumbo is from 2013 collection and my sister's is from 2015, the caviar leather is so different. Mine is a lot lighter in colors than hers, both of ours is black!!

Hi Amie, Thanks for addressing these points because sometimes these topics can make one's head spin, especially in terms of 1) The investment vs. resale value issue. Just buy a bag you really, really love, because you know you'll use it more often than not. Don't buy a bag just because everyone has it. People don't think about the cost per wear issue and they should before just doing an impulse buy. I can rely heavily on one bag for awhile and then change it up for specific reasons, then go back to the other bag just because I miss using it, or it's simply practical for what I do most of the time. 2) On the customer service issue, I've found that it is a very good idea to work with different advisors/associates because, for whatever reason, one advisor may be able to read you better and provide you with the service you like, want, prefer, or need, over another advisor who may not. Thanks for taking time to do this! You're a doll!

Yes! I had a YSL wallet and it fell apart in under a year. I had only used it a few times before this happened. I took it in and they found a fault in the stitching and happily exchanged it for me

Great tips and so true. When I bought my first designer bag they had seven in stock and I asked to look at all seven. There were differences and only one with what I would describe as a just a little more glossier or shinier finish. I thoroughly examined stitching, edges,lining, hardware etc,

Thanks for another informative video Amie! I totally agree - I’ve got a caviar 17B square mini but much favour the older caviar (such as your mini). I had an issue with my strap fraying after only a month and Chanel replaced the interwoven leather (no charge). I didn’t know this but they advised me the bags have a 1 year warranty for any faults :) and you can then continue to bring your items in if repairs are needed xxx

I went to purchase the Chanel jumbo last week at Sloane street Chanel. The first black caviar jumbo I was offered was very matte and I just didn’t care for it. So I asked for a second and then a third. Ended up choosing one with a more natural caviar and I can’t be happier. Funny thing is the bag I bought is 25 series, and I thought the new bags are all 27 now?

I only own luxury bags except for one! I used to own the YSL tote but it was not very good quality. I had to return it. Then I looked at the Tory Burch Perry triple compartment tote cuz I needed something for work and I got it because of you. You’ve been recommending this one for years and it is indeed such a lovely work bag and such good quality leather. I’m actually very happy with it. It’s perfect for work. I’ve been working for two companies in two different offices but in the same buildings and I carry my stuff from one office to the other and everything fits. Great video! I'm loving the more frequent uploads so good job! In my case, I also do check different shoes of the same size in the same style and color because my feet are kind of weird in that they fit well on some pairs and don't on others. In one case, I got the left side of one pair and the right side of another pair! If I'm spending a lot on shoes, then I want to be happy with how they fit me and have no regrets. It pays to double check other stocks to make sure what you're getting is the best for you. Agree with your points...

IC, I have some catching up on. As always, thank you Amy for always sharing videos that make me think before making a regrettable purchase. I agree with the points you've shared here. I'm still needing help with CHANEL information. I'm Soo not clear as to knowing the different seasons collections codes colors shades textures of leathers hardware and when do any of these items are sold. I favor the darker colors of Chanel over the lighter colors, mainly due to fear of color transfer or something happening to my bag generally. The new season isn't a fav of mine but the colors are darker than the last. Not knowing our understanding these things really make it hard to know when the colors I'm interested in will be sold. Please help with this information, I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't get it. TFS🙏💕

I agree with everything besides color transfer, I’ve noticed that my Hermès and Dior bags don’t get color transfer yet this happens with Chanel’s, maybe it has to do with how they treat the leathers I don’t know

What do you mean by guarantee? From what I understand, most brands have specific return policies with return dates, etc. if something goes wrong outside of that, can you really exchange or return or have them fix? Do you have to prove that it's not your fault that this *issue* happened? Thanks :)

ACG you can get them in most larger supermarkets they are stored with the shoe polish. I got some from Sainsbury’s yesterday I have also bought it in Tesco I personally wouldn’t spray it on my jeans it’s just too near your skin, I put a very light spray on my bag an it works

I’ve heard lots of complaints abt Chanel charging my friends on their bags/accessories for just sending it into Paris workshops for repairs and no guarantee it can be fix , apart fr the repair fees. We live in Asia. However at LV more favorable feedback is heard. I had a petit maille for a yr & the surface had little bubbles under its coating. LV will refund/exchange a new one if they have stk or I can top up w cash on other items of bigger price tag. The best thing was the price has gone up so I actually made a profit if I took cash refund.

Yup, it seems to be a constant. London has a ton of boutiques so even if one store is sold out, you should have luck with another store.

This video is so timely! I've wanted to buy a Chanel handbag for a long time, and now that I have a little bit of money to do so I'm hesitating -- it's so much money, that I worry I would feel guilty, that I don't know what I'm doing or that it's a silly idea. And thanks to the Aussie dollar, secondhand or new, the bags average out to be the same (depending on what I'm looking at).
