Beautiful, love it and happy May 17th. Cool bunad, I like the black, gives more contrast to the flowers. My one and only May 17th so far was unplanned, Stavanger, 2015 and it still feels really special.

Very Interesting and fun vid to watch. Scandinavia is an important part of my roots & viewing the fun in Oslo reinforces the beauty of both country & people & especially you......very cultured and pretty. Thank You. And yes, here in America, "In God We Trust" is very important. It appears in many places, including the Dollar Bill.........Get some rest!

its so awsome that your folk still identifies with tradition and authentic culture! my deepest respekt. i came back to germany after 20yrs in the states, and i was shocked at the americanized culture i found. now 20yrs later i am so saddened and almost traumatized how little if any is truly found. only the comercialized drinkfests are basicly left and even those are exploited. im homesick at home. can you believe it? thank you for sharing with us

Norway is a very beautiful country. Been there several times. Not so long ago went to Bergen for a few days. But the prices though are up there with Iceland and Switzerland. Three of the most expensive countries in the world. For Norwegians of course it is normal and not expensive as their salaries balance it all out nicely. I am thinking that for Norwegians it must be very cheap to travel. Almost any other country that they would go to would be very cheap to them apart from Switzerland and Iceland. In many countries the cost of 2 or 3 regular Norwegian restaurant meals could get them through a day full of adventure, tours and of course eating out as well.

Summarized: 17. mai is eating hotdogs, wearing Bunad and walking around in incredibly hot weather. And it isn’t 17. mai if not the Russ is extremely wild. :-) Nice vid bby
@dovregubben50755 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify for everyone: Russ are the high school students who are about to finish school. They normally wear blue or red jumpsuits (you can see 3 ladies at 5:04) and they party until the 17th of May (interestingly before the final exams), and give out something like business-cards to kids, who are always super eager to collect them.

Thanks for taking us along with you! Was really intesrting to see how Norwegians celebrate their national day (even though it just seems to involve a lot of eating :D )
@povelvieregg1655 жыл бұрын
True ;-) But it is also a lot about taking part in a public celebration. All the schools march through town, so as parents it is a big thing to watch your kids walk in the parade and celebrate as you remember from your own childhood, and then finish with taking them to eat ice cream and hot dogs. It is also a day for speeches. Often where the parade ends there will be talks reminiscing over our history, the founding of Norway etc. It is a day that is an important glue in nation building. I read many stories about our new countrymen and women who sometimes struggle with fitting in but who feel that this is a day they can really feel like they belong as well. Not sure if you saw it here, but you can find a lot of interesting outfits where people who are new citizens blend in the bunad with some of their own traditions. I've seen muslim girls in bunad with a hijab in the colors of the Norwegian flag. Maybe it is a strange thing to mention, but for me it matters that this day which is a celebration of a nation can be a positive and inclusive day and not a sort nationalistic Norway über alles kind of deal.
