As someone who's been experimenting with pants fit and alteration for years, let me offer my 2 cents to other people struggling like I was. The fact of the matter is that if you have short legs, flare and stright leg pants are going to be more challenging to pull off right off the rack, as they make you look shorter, giving you a square silhouette. BUT there is a solution: taper your pants to a 15" leg opening. That's the magic number. You'll still look like you're wearing a more relaxed pant, but that subtle taper will do wonders for your silhouette. If you want the pant to be cropped above the shoe as opposed to draping over the top of the shoe, I find a 14.5" or even 14" leg opening is better.
@dahterrasse3 жыл бұрын
for me (5'9", wide-ish hips), I quite like looser fitting pants with a tapered leg opening. I'm not sure what the measurements are, but I find that they are very forgiving about body type. they turn my wider hip area into a relaxed look but don't drown me in a super wide fit. A fit somewhat between slim and straight is also nice, but I prefer the looser silhouette and feel for comfort and because it just fits me personally, I think

@@Steven-mv9nx honestly I haven’t found a good pant that comes in this kind of fit other than the Levis 502, but I’m not a fan of the cheap materials they use on that model or the really low rise. So what I do is thrift straight leg pants (501, 505, Carhartt, Lee regular fit) and take them to my tailor for a crop and taper. When all is said and done I’ve usually just spent $50-$60 since I saved by thrifting. Hope that helps 👍🏼

I have genetically big thighs in proportion to the rest of my body, they also pack on muscle MUCH faster than anything else (I can actually skip leg days sometimes) so skinny fits started to make me look like I just had christmas hams wrapped in cling foil. Way too tight for my body. I've since stuck with more straight and relaxed fits and it compliments my legs way more. This also really helped me "click" when it came to building wardrobes: I just know what styles suit me more.

Yeah I accidentally discovered last year that flared jeans look best on me. They give me a beautiful body silhouette and make it look like I've more curves than I really do 😂. I've a pear shaped body, but like a more flattened one so it's not as curvy as Beyonce's is. I always read that flared jeans don't suit my type, but it was very surprising to find out they look best on me. I don't think people should stick to one type of pants. They should just experiment. Sometimes it's not the shape, but the colours. One thing I do know about making ur butt look better tho, it's that the back pockets gotta be in the right position. Not too high, not too low, not too wide. That's what u look for
