I’m a typical white American man and fell in love with a Puerto Rican lady 33 years ago, we’re still happily married and we made two daughters together. I went to Spanish language school at night to learn Spanish to better understand her family and culture.

Have you become fluent in Spanish?
@echohunter41999 ай бұрын
@@dougkalagian it depends on who I speak with since there’s a LOT of different dialects and they often use different words that confuse the hell out of me but, with Puerto Ricans and Cubans I understand them just fine. I’d place myself at around 40% fluent but when I’m in PR or Spain and I’m surrounded by Spanish speakers it pushes me to learn and speak more Spanish and I don’t have a typical guero accent. Watching TV commercials where some white guy is speaking Spanish horribly is like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.

I feel the same way. The value system is different. In the Island we put family over everything. In the U.S and most other places, the object is to leave as soon as possible and the in laws are shunned and treated like crap. They act like they have to pick a side for everything. We have massive family get togethers flr everything. They do it once a year and call it a family reunion. There is no warmth or culture in the US it's a gender war, and life is work, home, work home, work, home u til you are old and grey. Hell no. Give me my Puerto Rican woman with nice nalgas who can cook, and we can take our family to the placita to party and enjoy the holidays instead of being stuck working on the holidays.

I'm half Puerto Rican and half Canadian. Idk what to say to that tbh. I said the same thing when I had a bad experience with an African American guy (I'm a girl). I was like never again, sorry. I don't hate the race, but I just wouldn't date one again. He cheated on me and some other things I can't even say here.

@dougkalagian7 күн бұрын
They are Americans and have US citizenship, but have limitations on their rights while living in Puerto Rico. For instance, they can’t vote in US presidential elections. But if they moved to the mainland they would have all the same privileges. Even though they have citizenship, many Puerto Ricans don’t consider themselves Americans.
