In this video BenTbeyondrepair, Grandmaster Braum support main goes over what role you should main/learn as a new league of legends player. Top and Mid provide the largest amount of trading, csing, and fighting compared to other roles and are less interdependent than adc and support. Support and jungle are extremely unique roles that tend to be harder for new players to grasp. Howerver, it is best to play a role and a champion that you enjoy playing the most because you will improve more from playing a lot of something you like than you will trying to play something that is "optimal" but you don't enjoy.

I've been looking for something like this recently, would love to see a longer one breaking down what subclasses fit certain players in each role

This was exactly my thought process when getting a friend into league. Top and Mid will teach you the real game.

I feel like for adc especially at low rank, the role is balanced basically exclusively around players who are like diamond+? Maybe master+? Which makes it pretty tough to learn on. The rewarding situations for playing adc exist like 0% of games as a new player, 20% at low elo, and then grow as you climb. It feels basically impossible to understand how you’re supposed to play until teams will actually play with you and protect you. Instead, they’ll place 0 vision on flank angles, see an enemy and instantly lose focus on the fact that they have multiple champions that are flank threats and then flame you for dying, despite them being chogath trying to towerdive t3s rather than keeping the irelia coming from behind off you

Support. Specifically, Thresh teaches you so much with just his E. UI comfortability, Engage/Disengage foresight, positioning. I think he single-handedly taught me all these things. Support feels also the least death punished role, yet covers the most basis. It’s already the ward hoe, semi roam, 24/7 babysitter.

Yeah, put a newb in a most important role after jungler, solid idea right there. Nocap. People who never carried a game with a bad support actively griefing them don't know how to support.

It is perfectly fine to be a jack of all trades. The full quote is, "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one."

I will say, at some point in your career (after you have like 200+ games in main role) you really need to play some jungle. Learning jungle MASSIVELY improved my understanding of the game. I’d developed a lot of misunderstandings and impossible expectations for my junglers because as a laner you only really “feel” the part of jungle where they’re ganking your lane. I had to learn the importance of the jungler farming his camps, understand that he cant impact every lane frequently, and experience weak/strong side from jungle perspective before I really got it.

I agree with this, but I’d also say learning how to hold yourself in a lane will make you a better jungler. Eventually, you have to try every role at least once to improve your understanding of the game as a whole.

as a jg top and mid player i found support so hard to learn and climb with but as i eventually got it it is the most fun and relaxing i love winning games without people paying attention to me as enchanters

I feel like mid is the best role to start with. Not an easy one by any mean, but you will learn wave management, farming, map awareness (because you're "open" on 2side), you are 1v1, jungle come often on your lane so you'll learn to play around it (placement to avoid getting ganked, how to play to ease a gank from your jungler,...) and later you can learn how and when to roam. You can play a panel of different kind of champion too: assasin, mage, some bruiser,... You could say the same with top, but I feel it's way more a standalone lane where if you get stomp, you'll get the blame, but rarely get any help. You really need to manage your 1v1 as a top laner, but at least you'll be force to learn your matchup very well. Roaming can be more punishing as well when not timed properly. Jungler is a fun role to learn, but let's get real here: you'll get ALL the blame every time (so you'll need to manage a lot of pressure at your debut), it's not a "classic" role so you'll not learn basic laning features like wave management and it's less obvious to see your "good and bads" (for example, it could feel you're doing well babysitting your winning botlane, but you're far behind in farm, objectives, and your mid laner is getting stomped on. Or you have all the objectives but the opposing smolder had it so easy in lane, he's at full stack early. It's way harder to see these things as a noobie) ADC and Support are awesome way to learn the game if you're duo-ing. But otherwise, it's hard. As an ADC you'll learn to farm and manage wave, but you're facing 2 opponents, so it's more intense. You're often more squishy than other laners and will get focused more. Otherwise ADC is fine. Support at low level is more "easy", you can pick some tanky champions or pure support like Nami or Lulu, maybe a bit more agressive with Lux and you'll be fine. Support is way harder to improve on though: roaming is way harder to manage, and you have more things to learn to be really good and doing your job well. It's also a bit harder to see where you went wrong since your ADC can save the day or ruin it without really giving you input on what you did well or not. If you're duo-ing, you can also fall into the trap of beeing your "adc pocket support" and never learn anything except your teammate playstyle. (for exemple, if your mate is playing really agressively you could find other adc that play safe "useless" or bad, and put yourself in danger thinking "your adc should have followed") Either way, you'll always learn better if you're having fun, so play a champion you like, became good at it ("On trick pony" is really not that bad at first), and learn from there Awesome video, I really liked your explanation for each role, even if i'm not entirely agreeing with all of them. Thanks for sharing on this topic!

The full saying is: A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes is better than a master of one. As many of you know, when league started you didnt pick a role whenever you played a rank game, wich is absurd by nowadays standards. Imagine having a Rank for every position, for example one could be silver as a top laner, gold as a mid laner, plat as a jungler and unranked at support...

Learning Jungle allows you to learn the entire map, the objectives, timers, and wave states. It gives you such a macro view of the game, that you can take what you learned there and effectively move into any role and be successful by just getting better at the micro parts of the game and using your knowledge from jungle to impact the game on a higher level than a lot of people that only lane.

Yeah and how long would that take? You have to take into account that newer players would want to learn a role as fast as possible. If you have too much variables (jungle pathing, objectives, lanes, match-ups, etc.) it will take you a lot longer to learn than a more straight forward role.

I actually started as an ADC then switched to support/jungle because first I got tired of bad supports and jungle cause I was curious. Now I pretty much just auto fill and play what ever

New players should play support and mid. For support play enchanter : lulu, soraka , janna, sona because its much easier to hit your ally than the opponent. Mid lane should long range. Xerath is the champion that taught me the game. I was able to study other champions abilities while at a safe distance.
