something to understand: many families can't breastfeed for a variety of reasons. some women have to return to work immediately and their work does not allow them to breastfeed (infants feed every 2-3 hours, breastfeeding is a full time job), some women have very painful plugged ducts, others have adopted infants, there are single dads, children whose mothers died, infants who refuse to breastfeed (I was one of those infants), infants who won´t latch, infants who are tongue tied, mothers who don´t produce enough milk, and mothers who want the father to be able to contribute to caring for the infant by feeding it. Once your breastmilk dries up (takes about a week), you do not make anymore. Breastfeeding isn´t really an option for many families.

Just because some companies ceased doing it over the years doesn’t mean Abbott and Mead have monopolies. It means the other companies didn’t want to expand and innovate. And for the record, the deaths were NOT caused by the formula. Several independent labs tested the recalled formula and it was not contaminated. The parents carelessness is to blame for the death of their infant. The contamination at the manufacturer was in areas that had no contact with formula production. The closing of the plant was mandated to clean and repair the infected areas, which is the proper thing. But Abbott isn’t the cause of the deaths.

Many women want to breastfeed (it’s literarily free and the most healthy), however they cannot fir many reasons. In America where there is no paid maternity leave, mothers go back to work as early as 1 week after birth, breastfeeding is almost impossible. @sistermadrigalmorning2332 жыл бұрын
There's no mandated paid maternity leave in America and most families needs two incomes to survive or even in some cases the health insurance comes from the mom so even if they could survive on one it needs to be hers. Babies can't eat food until they're 6 months. Pumping IS NOT the same as nursing. I'm a SAHM who nursed both my kids until they were 2.5-- I tried pumping once and it was horrible. With nursing my body responded very naturally to my baby, but with pumping it's not natural and you're having to force the breasts more to let down. Additionally nursing takes energy-- especially in the early days I'd often be tired after a feeding because literally my body is taking calories of energy from me and giving it to the baby. Having to work full time and pump enough to exclusively breast feed the baby when you're not there takes a super woman, especially since holding a baby there increases production and pumps rarely do so over time pumping often reduces overall amount of milk produced. The only way to really responsibly encourage breastfeeding would be to give 6 months paid maternity leave like other civilized countries. At 6 months you start introducing solid foods.

I am in Australia but I find this story quite weird. I breastfed (and worked full time, expressing at work) until my kids were about 2. i bought maybe 3 formula cans in total that my kids usually hated. We had a very big problem for many years here with cans being bought by people from overseas and exported. However this was managed.

When you say you breastfed and worked full-time--do you mean straight after you gave birth? Like I did? Well, 8 fays after I gave birth by C-section, I drove myself (my mom, who was there to help, didn't drive), and ny infant, to work, 2 hrs away. A conference of 10 days that I was running. I nursed every 3 hrs and my mom watched my baby in-between (and loved it!). She did the same with my next 3. But as I own my own company, I did not get paid leave. I worked straight thru (including in-between contractions!). Didn't have the luxury to NOT work! My first born just had his 22nd bday! My mom's 80th would be next week, if she were still with us. She would be very proud!! As am I.
@playlisttarmac2 жыл бұрын
@@skontheroad With my first child, I took her to work with me after a c section at about 4 days old. I was doing research at the time on a scholarship, while I had very flexible working arrangements i did not have any maternity leave. Yes I was lucky in that expressing was easy for me. When she was 2 weeks I was given the phone number of a lovely lady who looked after her for several months while I worked, I then found day care close to work and fed her in my lunch break. With my second child I was a lot luckier and had a job that I could take maternity leave. However, at a couple of months old I was also feeding my second child in my lunch break as well as expressing / freezing milk.

Yes the one her baby uses is an amino acid formula. It's for babies with milk protein allergies among other things. Literally all the protein is broken down into the simplest form-amino acids. Apparently that's more expensive to do. Oh and 1 can lasts a couple days if your baby is exclusively formula fed which most babies with this issue are at some point. @@snehasingh6835 you missed the entire point of my comment… yes breast feeding is physically and sometime emotional hard, and harder or impossible for some. That’s why formula exists. But that’s why formula exists. Formula is a good thing in the world but equally some women l, especially in countries without maternity leave (the USA for example, which is about the only country without any, though the is plenty of places where it exists but is hard to access) who’d like to breast feed but can’t realistically because they can’t afford too due to missed work. Finally I’m a firm believer that a big cause of the income gap between men and women is the lack of paternity leave for men. In each state of USA. The state can only buy from one supplier of baby formula. Theres 3-4 suppliers yes but each store that retails it in that specific state can only sell one not all 3-4 cause of the program they are on being contracted to only sell the product line on their contract making it impossible to switch to other products. Each customer can drive to neighbouring stated to get their specific formula they need if their state is in short supply cause their state is contracted to only purchase one type of formula which happens to have a shortage of products. Like 95% of all pharmaceutical medications sold in North America are all produced in China or with material ingredients that come from china or overseas countries. With trade lockdowns in place like most of china, when we run out of pharmesuetical meds like antibiotics, were out period. Baby formula is perhaps made with ingredients outside of North America therefore the plants producing it either aren’t opperating or limited. Theres a rumour of baby formula being with held for Urkranian mothers immigration into say North American soil, or its another ploy to control population growth.
