Totally! Wine that you’ll just use for cooking (not necessarily drinking) is great to freeze and there’s no better feeling than knowing you don’t have to buy a $10 bottle for one recipe or open a whole bottle just for a quarter cup.

I’ve done this before, and they never fully froze. They were like wine slushies. Did I do something wrong?
@christinef7739
@christinef7739 Жыл бұрын
@@MaritaCovarrubias01 I think it has to do with the alcohol content. Wine generally won't freeze unless the temp is negative 22 F; most standard freezers are around zero F. The lower the alcohol content, though, the easier it will be to freeze.

When you make anything whether it's burgers or Salisbury steak patties, etc. Poke (not all the way through the patty) 3 holes into your mixture and they will not shrink and you have a very juicy and delicious burger or what have you. I'm a chef and this works everytime.

Capers add a gentle briney flavor - even my kid who hates everything likes capers. a tip for leftover wine. I freeze mine in freezer molds that hold 2 tablespoons (roughly the size of an ice cube tray). whenever a recipe calls for a little wine, I toss in a cube or two. works great!

A good hack for buying wine to cook with is buy the Sutter home small bottles that come in little packs of 4 because you can just use as much as you need and then you have fresh unopened wine for other recipes. Otherwise an open bottle of wine is only good in the fridge for about a week.

Our first meal in our new house was actually frozen pizza on a blanket in the living room! We were moving from far away and didn't have any of our stuff moved yet, so no furniture, but we were actually excited to have frozen pizza because our oven in our old house and been out of commission for at least 6 months and we knew we didn't want to buy a new one since we were moving soon and our new house might have a stove already(which it did). So, although it was only frozen pizza, we made a fun little picnic out of it! Our boys were pretty young then, 10 and 6 I think, so it is a pretty special memory❤ Thanks for sharing all your meal ideas! I cook constantly for my family and I love getting new ideas so I don't get in a rut.

Capers are tangy. While they don’t taste exactly like pickles, that’s the best description. They are excellent with Mediterranean style dishes. They add a bite and a brightness to dishes that use butter, wine/lemon juice, garlic and herb sauces. I’d recommend trying them next time, but using half what the recipe called for in case you’re not a fan. Their flavor won’t be as strong that way. You can always pick them out. For the wine, use smaller bottles that a good for about 2 glasses. Gallo and Sutter Home are two brands that I can think of. Put the cap or cork back on the bottle and refrigerate. It should last about a week.

I’m also not a wine drinker but I like cooking with wine. I buy the little four-packs that are maybe a cup each? They’re $6 or so for four small bottles at my local Publix. So then I can open one at a time and not worry about a big bottle going bad at some point. Capers taste sort of like salty green olives.

the best way i can describe a caper is that it’s the texture of cooked peas and the taste is salty and tangy. i personally don’t think they taste a lot like olives, more like a super sour pickle. but since they’re so small they add great little pops of flavor in your food

Hi Kristin. Years ago, I found a recipe called Crispy Herbed Baked Chicken on the back of a box of Idaho Instant potato flakes. You do have to take the skin off your chicken legs, but trust me, it's amazing. The butter makes the meat so tender, and the combination of instant potato flakes and parmesan cheese mixture gives it its crispiness when it bakes. Do a search for Crispy Herbed Baked Chicken, Idaho potato flakes and many Websites will pop up. I'm definitely gonna try that Pesto Rice.

@CindyKinney
@CindyKinney Жыл бұрын
Yes, Sarahi. You add the instant potato flakes and parmesan cheese to a bowl. You melt butter and roll the chicken legs/pieces in the melted butter, then roll them in the breadcrumbs/parmesan mixture. I'm so sorry. On my original comment I did use the work "breadcrumbs" instead of instant potato flakes, but I've gone back and edited it now.
