The chicken dish looks so delicious. That’s a great meal you made. I see the joy on yours and Mr. Browns faces out in the garden. It’s such rewarding work when you harvest your crop. Your house looks magical at night with the little lights glowing. The sound of the peep frogs is so peaceful and serene. I love when Mr. Brown reads the stories about the Great Depression. Our nation has become ungrateful, spoiled and godless. I pray people will turn to God and ask for forgiveness so that he will heal our land. God bless you and Mr. Brown and your family.

I'm sure you and Mr Brown are preparing for what may come our way. We're already going thru inflation but my next concern now is a depression that I never thought that in our generation we would ever have to experience. We're not farmers but I've been prepping the best way I can to prepare for what ever may come. Lot's of non perishable foods and beans, rice, flour, sugar etc. God help and bless our precious Country. TFS Love Ya's.

Good looking supper, loved the reading. My parents were young during the depression years,Dad didn't talk about it but my Mom did,Dad lived on a farm and worked from the time he was eight, didn't get much school but there was always food ,not everybody was that lucky. His Mom was the only grandmother I knew. My Mom's parents had to move to a city out of a mountainous region to find work, her Dad worked at a CCC camp for awhile and then factories, they both died young her Mom was only 36,her Dad was 44 at death...all I have are a few pictures. There was a lot of malnutrition in those days and illnesses, childbirth once again was rough, and many born at home. People looked thin and old before their time. They had a lot of character though, and lots made it by the grace of God,they believed. You'll take care, love you,and prayers for you and your family.💞

Hello Ms. Lori. I’m so glad to hear that your daughter is doing better. I know what it feels like as a Mom anytime your adult children are very ill. They’re still and always will be your babies. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME! It’s been beautiful, sunny here in California. We still have flood warnings in effect in certain areas but for the most part- “spring has sprung”. Your chicken dinner looks yummy as usual. My best to Mr. Brown. God Bless The Brown Clan and Whippoorwill Holler. Xxoo

Blessing and prayers for a complete and speedy recovery for your daughter! I love your podcast! Young viewers need to be reminded about the depression era happenings and work attitudes toward work! Old fashion hard work, good manners, respect, and kindness toward others and the elderly is like a thing of the past. Too many people are on food stamps, the under the table way, so sad! Always live frugally and never ask for a hand out. Trying to be good stewards of the land as best I can! Thank you for sharing! Keep up the good work! Take good care! ❤❤

My husband and I really enjoy your videos so much. I want to let you know I canned with my pressure cooker for the first time. I'm 71 yrs old and my mother bought it for me in the 1970ies. I told you in January this was my new years resolution. I did 7 qts pinto beans. Well the lid got stuck but the beans still turned out so good. I bought me a new and bigger cooker. I wasn't going to let that discourage me. Two weeks later I canned 16 pints . I did great northern, red kidney, and baby limas. They are great. I know this is lengthy but you have helped me to overcome my reluctancy to pressure can. Thank You! We enjoy Danny's readings. Both scriptures and on the depression. Blessings to you and your family. ♥️

Miss Lori, I really enjoyed this video. It was a real treat! Your garden is beautiful, so was that dinner, which I am surely going to be trying. Mr. Brown's readings brought back memories of stories that my mother would tell us kids. So glad to know that your daughter is coming through the surgery. God bless!

Watching you peel potatoes brought up a sweet memory. My step-grandfather said he was grateful for the small wage job he could find. He carried an empty lunch pail to work and pretended to eat. According to my Mother, her Poppa always said to throw the potatoes in the oven and the rest of the meal would take care of itself. And you know what's amazing about that? The fact that we were in a conundrum about what to fix several times and putting the potatoes in the oven (whether microwave, conventional, or toaster) really does bring the rest together!

My grandma and grandpa went thru the depression, my grandma would boil up left over pork chop bones in milk gravy with potatoe dumplings. Her great aunt ,father and 3 uncles all lived with them in a large old house owned by the great aunt. Her mother died of polio when she was 3. When me and my sister grew up grandma and grandpa lived with us,, as well as an uncle. We lived in an old farm house a few miles from town, my mom and grandma had a huge garden and canned tons of food. An uncle and aunt and cousins lives next door. Families were close back then. I remember being teases some due to the family all living together and next door, but I wouldn't change it. I know I learned different life morals, scruples, values , spirituality from each family member. When they say it takes a village to raise a child they were 100% right. Loved your video, sweet memories. Thank you. 😊

My mom and dad were newlyweds during the depression. She told us how hard it was finding work. They lived in the mountains of southwest Virginia. Dad did a lot of odd jobs for people. In mom's ladder years, she hardly threw away anything. Her saying was always the same, "if you'd lived through the depression, you would know why I don't like throwing away anything I might use later." They kept a milk cow that provided milk, buttermilk, and butter. They also had chickens for eggs. In the summer they raised a garden and mom canned enough to get them through the winter. Lori, your chicken dish looked delicious. I'm like Mr. Brown, I love mashed potatoes!!! They go good with about anything.

Yummy meal Ms Lori ! My parents were teenagers when the depression began so they knew what hardships their families were going through and they went through when they started homemaking of their own , because of their experiences during those days us kids grew up always growing a garden and canning and preparing for hard times that might come! I still grow a garden I. My back yard , not a big one cause I don’t have much land but I plant in my front flower beds and all around the house in pots and around bushes as well as having my garden space so I do manage to put up a pretty good amount every year as well as shopping sales on produce and putting it up also , I also have lots of staples like flour, meal, sugar, grits , beans , salt , pepper snd spices ! God bless y’all for showing such great videos , please also continue to teach of the old ways and depression cooking !! Ms Lori you might know this already but if not for another delicious meal when making mashed potatoes- wash the potatoes well before peeling and pack your potato peels in a glass jar and cover them with water and put in fridge , in the next day or so or few days drain the potato’s peels and either fry or bake them , when done cover with shredded cheddar cheese and too with diced tomatoes , chopped lettuce and sour cream if you want it and you have a delicious meal out of what you’d have fed to the chickens or thrown out !! ❤️🙏🙋🏻

I usually sit right before going to sleep and spend time with you and Mr Brown. You all are like sharing time with family and the tour of Pa’s taters abd his new fence made me smile. Thank y’all so much for just being who you are. Love y’all back.

I'm so glad to hear your daughter is recovering well. This recipe sounds SO delicious and being Greek, I love garlic and basil! And yes, just about everything I have in my pantry would go great. I always have potatoes, rice, pastas, and a couscous is great too because it cooks up as easy as rice. This time of year, we love artichokes as a green side dish and we have a few that are already ripe. I know what I'm cooking for dinner and thank you and Mr. Brown for giving us a peek at your garden.😋❤
