3000gt was amazing during its time but if you ever owned one you realize how quick that car goes from amazing to nightmare. Its very tight engine bay comparable to the 300zx, its weight and ultimately the lack of tuning potential ultimately killed that car from ever reaching legendary status. Supra, gtr, evo, civics all had the aftermarket and tuning support needed for them to reach those legendary status we see now not to mention f2f. Vr4 not so much

@@bryanlolwtf04 It's not inherently a matter of diversifying, just like Subaru (FHI) Mitsu has always been Mistubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), they've made these things for decades (think WW2 planes along with air conditioners and other equipment) and that's what allowed them to build good cars, they have a lot of manufacturering in-house, not sure what their infrastructure is nowadays but since they're still incredible appliance manufacturers I'm sure if they cared enough to put the money in they can easily make a quality yet affordable car that has some excitement - albeit unlikely considering they seem to be focused on profits over public image

I think a very important, or rather a few important notes here would be: 1) Mitsubishi Motors is NOT even a part of the Mitsubishi Group's core. Mitsubishi Motors is a small part of Mitsubishi and was formerly a subsidiary under Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. 2) Mitsubishi Motor's change from "passion" cars to more practical ones have actually boosted their business revenues and is a very strong brand outside of N. America. In many places, Mitsubishi often rivals Toyota. So, downfall? Hardly. Mitsubishi is primarily a financial, heavy machinery, mining, energy, electrical, and defense industries that makes cars on the sidelines.

probably the same thing as every other manufacturer. all these car enthusiasts say "omg what a great car... can't wait to buy it after 10 years in the second hand market." and combine that with the fact that these sportier cars are sold far less often, you get an overall stupid financial decision for manufacturers to make "cool" cars. not to mention the ongoing trend of older people typically being the only demographic with enough money to buy cars and what's the deal with older people? they don't want a low riding, stiffer than rocks suspension, extreme NVH sports car. they want something more quiet, comfortable, easy to use so why should manufacturers cater to a minority? they go out all their way to make a car that enthusiasts like, only to find out that they complain about anything and everything, and only 10-20% of this demographic actually has money to buy the car to begin with...

I had a 4G 2008 Eclipse for over 10 years as my first car. I always told myself I was gonna turbo it like every other teenager, but instead just did maintenance throughout the years and used my money elsewhere in life. Truly a great first car even if I couldn't go all out like a true JDM nerd. I always wanted a 2G, 3Gs were meh, EVOs and 350Z were out of the price range, so when the 4G came around I was going into my freshman year in high school and I couldn't be happier when I got one used my junior year (in part thanks to my dad and a job at Coldstone). There's some truly great modded 4Gs out there and there was a turbo kit I was interested in for awhile. The wheel wells were notoriously high up so it benefited from a lowered stance. Most body kits were too gaudy, but others really made the 4G light up like you're playing a Midnight Club or N4S game. It was never as agile as a Miata or as powerful as a 350Z but it was a great cruiser. It had its niche and I was a proud to have hit the 10 year mark with many memories in that car like first kisses, friends, road trips around the US, etc.

Mechanics complain about every case they work on. I’ll never trust a mechanic’s opinion of a car.

Subaru is the worse car to work on for a mechanic with those boxer engines. Even the current boxer engines are not that great , they burn oil like crazy Honda was also on a decline , the last gen crv had oil dilution and failed head gaskets, Mitsubishi current engines are much more reliable than subaru and honda

Why does everyone need an suv? Most people just use them like vans with the added negative of me not being able to see past anyone in my normal ass car.
@PlatinumNath

Because people dont want to look like a lame dork in a minivan or proper van, which.... In my opinion, actually makes them more lame rather than cool for avoiding the rational choice of vans to do the job its better fit to do.

I was one of those kids that bought a 2001 eclipse GT. The commercials at the time - zero zero zero for a year o year o year o! The insanity of this was that as soon as the year was up, i just refinanced for a really low interest rate, which means that Mitsubishi got no money for an entire year and then they only got the purchase amount. Lots of people who didn't simply default just did this.

All Mitsubishi would have to do is come out with a proper Evo or Eclipse concept car (not some crossover bullshit) with likelihood of making production and people would care again, it's not rocket science

@@dawsongranger4940 It doesn’t have to. If Mitsubishi created a banging Evo (and sold a coupe version called the Eclipse), had it beat out the other hot econo cars like the Civic Type R, Elantra N, WRX/STI, Golf R etc. and sold it at a reasonable price but in limited quantities at first they’d sell fast. Yes it would likely be a Loss Leader (economic term I recommend looking up), but like Toyota has done for coming on 3 decades of loss leaders in the LS400, Lexus LFA and now GR corolla, the Evo/Eclipse would easily win over the enthusiast car market that’s been left dead in the water for decades and the surrounding hype would bring up sales across the brand’s fleet. The cars they do sell are fine now, they just need to get their name known for making good cars for both the enthusiast and casual crowd again.

@@dawsongranger4940 The point of sports cars/halo cars isn't to make money and never has been, it's to get people interested in the brand. Donut even did a whole video on this. They go into it knowing they will lose money, but be able to showcase their designs and engineering. A car company only interested in bean counting is one most of us will stop caring about quickly

NO ONE IS BUYING THEM . SUV market is RISING LIKE CRAZY , which is why all car manufacterers are switching to suv models . they only car about business , if people wants suv then suv it is .

We have had three Mitsubishi Fuso box trucks at my work. They are the worst trucks we have owned. All of them have required new engines before 70k miles. One of them went through 2 transmissions before 100k miles. There were fluid leaks on them in the first week we owned them. The build quality was so bad, the door cards fell off during the first 30 days. I think the box trucks are no longer sold in the US and I am thankful for that.
