You could take some of these and set them inside of clear resin,then put that into a square shadow box frame and put some tiny soft led lights underneath,and add handels to each side , then you have a pretty lighted tray !

Personally, I see that the agate is the most varied stone, in addition it is within the reach of all with little means, just good will, and good legs to browse his favorite places bend to pick it up before to admire it once cleaned of layer from which it hides, and which shelters it from those who do not know it. Have a lovely day everybody

Have you ever tried using bondo to hold rocks at the position you want using 2 blocks of wood covered in platic sheeting like a mold to give you flat right angles to grab the wood? It allow yo to keep cutting past the middle of the rock too. You have to let the bondo cure for a few days.

So something I learned from Rob from Michigan Rocks when slabbing is after your first cut and you get a flat surface is to glue a piece of 2x4 to the rock using Elmer's wood glue. Then you can clamp the 2x4 in your vice and you get the full use of the rock you are slabbing. The last piece that is left on the board you can soak in water for couple week or use heat to melt the glue and pull the rock off. Has been working great for us.

Katy, you are so right. The inside of the agates have endless miracles & wonder! I am curious about the saw. How long does it take to cut a slab once the rock is secured & positioned? Does the cutting time differ based on mors hardness factor? Thank you for sharing these beautiful finds & educating us. Hi to Jim! God bless.
@KatyDidRocks
@KatyDidRocks Жыл бұрын
Hi. The length of time depends on the size - 20-30 minutes for most. Some saws have variable speeds, but most just have a single slow speed.

To answer your question, I would use them as art. Buy or make a large light box to put on the wall and set the slabs in epoxy resin to fit the top of the light box. When the light is turned on, you see through the beautiful slabs! Or, do you have a bathroom window with a curtain over it? You could make a sheet of slabs set in resin, probably on plexiglass and put that in front of your window for privacy rather than curtains. The natural light would shine through and let everyone who uses the bathroom enjoy the beauty of the slabs. You could build wood or metal frames for lamp bases, put some of the slab panels on all four sides. You can buy lamp electronics at any hardware store. Or if your home could use a divider screen from one room to another. Or make stained glass, but with slab pieces instead of glass. You have a really beautiful and unique resource with the fantastic stones you find! You may as well flaunt them!

The plastic is so the bondo does not stick to the wood boards you use like a mold. Ask your husband if he knows about bondo. You have to keep the two boards parallel and at right angles to the line of your cut. It is very easy to use. Email me or call if you would like to talk, I am easy to find, Thanks, Jeff
