Question for you guys! Do incoming freshman (not guaranteed walk-ons) only get to try-out "next year" before Spring Ball (aka mid way through freshman year in Feb/March) Or is there a try out in late summer / early fall for Freshman to be all to make the 105 Fall training camp roster? Very interested in learning what month/time you guys made the team. Thanks for making these videos!!
@clayraterman Жыл бұрын
Sometimes there's a tryout first week of the semester , depends on the school and what they want or need at the time. When I was there it was first week of fall and spring semesters, but it later changed and became more sporadic. I've heard different things from all different kids at other schools though so you gotta ask the team/school
@clayraterman Жыл бұрын
and we made it in winter after the season (first week of spring semester)...others I knew made it in fall though. I personally think its much better in winter so you get the whole year with the team as opposed to jumping in week 1 of season

depends on the school, what they need. how good you are, etc....but very very very low to almost zero if you're at a good D1 program.

I plan on trying to walk on at my school now i graduated highschool in 2018 but I’ve been training and working for this moment and now I’m 22 do you think I waited too late or do you think I should still tryout be completely honest bro honest opinion
@clayraterman2 жыл бұрын
It just depends if you have eligibility left. If you are JUST now enrolling in college for the first time and have eligibility then yeah you can try out. If not then yeah you waited too long. I've seen older kids make it before, so my opinion doesn't really matter lol. If it doesn't work, pick a new goal and go get after it

I transferred to OSU this semester. I transferred from a D1 FCS school in Ohio where I was a preferred walk on. I am a kicker and I can’t really find information about what I’ll be expected to do. Do you have an idea of what specialists will do?
@clayraterman2 жыл бұрын
probably similar to what happens at a kicking camp
@chickenbotquack82453 жыл бұрын
How come y’all didn’t decide to play a grad year?
@clayraterman3 жыл бұрын
I would've had to attend and pay for school another year once we already graduated (taking unnecessary classes) + complications with eligibility and applying for another year + other life goals beyond football and being ready to chase the next goal

So I have a question it’s kinda of confusing, everyone usually says for a walk on to try out it has to be around winter to spring but what if I was going to a community college for a year or starting in the fall I wouldn’t transfer to the school with a team until that next year which would be fall so would I have to wait till the seasons over and tryout as a sophomore going on as a jr ? And I was going to community just to get my feet wet in college n get my body right so if I wanted to try out I can be the best at my ability
@clayraterman2 жыл бұрын
Depends on your school ask them, and yeah you can't tryout until you're enrolled at that college and they usually have them once MAYBE twice a year max if they need people

You guys are great. I lost my senior season of football because of COVID, and it would have been a huge year for me because I didn’t start playing until I was a JR. I’m going to Miami next year, and I’m looking to walk on. Any advice on the best way to get noticed by coaches?

Just got out of the military not to long ago and have thought about nothing but playing football again. From my understanding I have roughly 3 years of eligibility left....but I just turned 26 last month. Am I wasting my time with trying to walk on just because of my age?
@clayraterman4 жыл бұрын
I had a military friend who at 26 years old walked on with me! (shoutout Mike Blanton) so no it's not too late as LONG as you have eligibility and are enrolled in the college you're trying to walkon at. Goodluck my man!

I’m also a veteran thinking about walking on. I know military service freezes your clock but does that apply to reservists or national guard. I’m in my last year of service, also 24 now and I don’t know how much eligibility I have left. Help!!!😁
