Hey I’m Egyptian so I would say he’s definitely Egyptian! We take English in school and regarding the shirt he maybe just a fan because the Brazilian National team is really great and Egyptians love football even when their national team loses they just continue watching the matches while supporting other national teams..! Also he looks Egyptian and even if he looks like another nationality that wouldn’t be the case because Egyptians are not into interracial marriages (unless it’s Egyptian man with white women haha) So here’s an uncalled for insight on the Egyptian mind...!

I'm a Chinese, from an inland province, now living in Shanghai 3 years ago when I received the offer from my university in Shanghai, I was a bit worried. Some people said that locals in Shanghai would discriminate against us, and take us as illiterate people from rural places. Actually it never happens. So that's it. Those guys exist, but you seldom, or maybe never encounter them.

As for my own attitude towards Japanese... My grandfather were nearly killed by a Japanese soldier in 1942, when he was just a 6-year-old boy. A bullet flew just a few centimeters away from his head. If I were a person living during the war, I would hate your people. But the war ended, 70 years ago. I'd always take those Chinese people who fought during the war as heroes. But I'd not hate you. You are not our enemies. I'm really interested in Japanese culture and history. btw, I know a lot about your 戰國時代(sorry for not knowing this word in English)

The only downside is that the govt throws you out once you reach sixty unless you are an BIG investor, academic from a famous Tier 1 Western university or have some exceptional skills which China badly wants (for example a software or AI engineer). Marrying a local will not necessairly save you lol!. The people though are real friendly!

I visited China last year solo, as a tourist. Am Indian, female, late 20s. Honestly, everything was so unexpected. I had been warned about the taciturn nature of the Chinese but they were the warmest people I have ever come across. They give you plenty of space but the when you need help they go out of their way to help you out. Highly impressed by the infrastructure too. Coming from a highly populated country, I can completely understand and empathize with the problems. Yes there were some experiences that were perhaps not so pleasant but on the whole a beautiful and somewhat misunderstood country. Would go again if I get a chance. Would encourage everyone to go. Leave your phone, google maps won't work. Ask people for help, you'll make friends. The only complaints I heard were from some young tourists visiting from more "developed" western nations but honestly if you want every country to be like your own, why travel? And Shanghai is great, the food, the people, the views from the Bund. Lovely. IMO.

I wish they would have been able to ask a black-skinned person. My experience visiting China (Beijing, Harbin) was made of a lot of staring and pointing fingers at me. I overcame it by smiling to people and willingly taking pictures with them, and it didn't discourage me from going back. Because I really want to understand and enjoy the culture (not everybody is like that). When people were engaging with me, they were the nicest and they shared the yummiest of traditional Chinese food. I can't wait to visit again!

Pointing fingers always existed when foreigners were present in public because the ethnicities/races in China are not as diverse as other places, so local people might feel curious about foreigners and point at them though this action may be considered as “impolite”. But I still feel sorry about that if you did not had a good feeling with the painting fingers.

I’m from Shanghai. Here are some suggestions for foreigners to live in China: 1. Learn some basic Chinese words since most of Chinese people don’t speak good English. 2. Do not feel weird if someone wants to take a picture with you in rural area as they are just curious about you. 3. It’s easy to make friends here because many people are passionate about other cultures or also want to practice their English 4. Respect and learn Chinese culture because it is very helpful for you to live and work

I am a foreigner currently living in China, but not in the big known cities. I must say that the people here are very friendly, and will definitely help you if needed. I find living in China convenient, with wechat and alipay and all that. Learning and speaking their language will actually make your life ten times easier, even just the basics. With VPN, I think it's not entirely a problem. The censorship can be annoying, but you can still access almost everything, I don't see much difference. It can be a personal preference, so I agree that you should visit first before deciding to live here. Overall, I think China is a good country. They have a phrase that goes "入乡随俗" meaning "When in Rome, do it like how the Romans do", when you follow such value, you won't have any problem living here.

I’m basing this off personal experience and the experience of a couple of friends, but Chinese people are usually very filled with hospitality. If you speak Chinese and immerse yourself with the people, often times you’ll realize that they come to accept you as part of the group. While as a lot of friends who I️ know who have lived in Japan had always struggled with acceptance despite living there for many years amongst the people and speaking fluent Japanese. Perhaps it’s just an etiquette thing, Chinese people may come off as too straight forward or maybe even rude in some cases, but at the end of the day it’s because of those reasons that they’re easy to get close with, they are very open and accepting, especially to those who understand their culture. If you do something wrong or not acceptable in their society, they’re not afraid to tell you s that you make sure not to do it next time, but they make sure it’s in an amiable way. They also love to learn your culture and ask a LOT of questions about life outside of China. While as in japan the people are very reserved and less likely to actually speak what’s on their mind. While as they are very polite and respectful, you’ll always have a feeling of isolation and alienation because they don’t really see you as “part of the group” no matter how connected with Japan you are. Sometimes they may even say bad things behind your back despite acting very sweet in front of your face, but this all has to do with local etiquette. The Japanese are taught to never come off as very strong minded and opinionated, while as in China they are taught to be accepting but open and firm about what they believe in. This is just speaking from a general stand point though, obviously others may of had different experiences in both countries but this is my personal experience and that of those who I️ know have lived in one or both of the countries

I think the original poster's point was what you just said. He said you may be alienated in Japan b/c of your foreign-ness and you basically said the same thing to agree with him. If a culture cannot accept a person b/c they use "weird Japanese phonics" I feel very bad for the people they reject. In the U.S, it is very rude not to accept someone just because they use "weird phonics" but I guess it also depends on person to person. Everything is very generalized though. I find Japanese people super polite personally.
@kail9777
@kail9777 6 жыл бұрын
I kind of gave this a thought at one point or another but you said it very well. I think you're generally correct with the statements. Japanese people are definitely super polite. As how they will accept a foreigner? I've always heard that integrating was difficult for foreigners. Chinese people on the other hand seem blunt. They'll tell you straight to your face if you look weird or smell or whatever. On the flip side, you can feel more at home in that sense b/c you know there isn't really hard feelings it's just people speaking their head and people with their hearts on their sleeves. I do get the sense too that they accept you as one of them given enough time. You opened my head there : ) that's such an interesting point.

I am Italian too and to be honest I had a great impression on China before coming. After moving there it even improved. China is a great country with great people (especially mainlanders), unfairly object of racist stereotypes. For sure nothing and no one is perfect, they have their flaws too, but in general they are very friendly and curious about different cultures. Plus, if you speak even a little Chinese they all will be sooooo pleased. Another thing that I like is that Chinese always try to take you out and offer meal and refuse to make you pay...well, that's not always true in Shanghai or outside mainland China, but the rest of mainlanders do it :-P Plus, Mandarin is such a beautiful, musical language. I repeat it, nobody's perfect, but China is a great place with great people.

However, there are also many others who complained about how Chinese mainlands are a bunch of materialistic, rude, manipulative and evil backstabbers. Next month I will be travelling there and meet some Chinese mainlands whom I befriended while I'm studying in Singapore. Such contrasting views that youtubers have against China does concern me in some ways.

I’m an American born Chinese, and when I went to China it was really nice. I felt rlly at home even though I grew up in America for 15 years, and it was awesome being the majority. I never got special treatment like whites and blacks do in China, as I looked like a local, but I guess I fit the role too well. A few college aged white dudes who are definitely from America went up to me in the middle of a restaurant and were somehow surprised that there was a Chinese teen in a restaurant. They tried speaking Chinese and gave me a fist bump, never told them I spoke English and I heard them talking about how cool it was to meet me a local. Overall 10/10 definitely would do again.

When I went to a club or bar I had no problems to go inside and find a group which I could join without paying for anything. Even if I wanted to pay they won't let me lol. A few tips that I have for first-timers traveling to China: bring toilet paper everywhere you go(public toilets don’t have toilet paper), if you have a nice pair of shoes they may get ruined so don’t flex on all your good shoes there (a huge population of people also means the ground can get quite dirty) , and lastly learn some chinese since not everybody can speak English

Ken Yam that's load of craps. you are just a dpp history revisionist. as a matter of fact, taiwan got a whole lot worse from imperial japan than korea. korea was annexed by japan with cooperation from some korean elites. hence the initial korean resistance against japan was rather negligible. but the first 20 years of japanese rule over taiwan was very brutal. even japanese records show that many large scale massacres were conducted throughout the island to pacify taiwanese resistance. imperial japan was specially cruel towards taiwanese aboriginals. not to mention, korea's and manchuria's colonial status within japanese empire were a lot higher than taiwan. (not that is something to be pround of. just stating the fact.) manchuria and northern part of korea were built as industrial powerhouse of imperial japan and were under direct authority of japanese emperor. whereas taiwan was treated as imperial japan's farmland for japanese food supply and was under direct authority of japanese ministry of argriculture and fishery. in the last few years of japanese rule, many taiwanese were drafted by force as japanese army of taiwan volunteers corp to serve in southeast asia theater. most of taiwanese draftees served as military cooks or porters. some served as supporting combatants. their military rank were usually lower than japanese military dogs. japanese army see your grandpa as comrades? lmao.... total 200 thousands taiwanese youths were drafted into jp military when taiwan only had 5 million population. eventually taiwanese served in japanese military resulted in 30 thousands KIA and 20 thousand MIA in southeast asia.

Been living in China for 15 years can’t wait for the pandemic is over so I can return to Guangzhou, life in China is pretty good but that girl was very right about visa , sometimes they treat people who wants to renew their visa really badly and you never know if you will need more documents or if you will even get the visa or not so that’s the worst thing about China my opinion, hopefully one day they will make visa easier because a lot of people go to China just to live a better life

I travelled to Guangzhou, Xi'an, and Beijing last year for two weeks studying Mandarin at Sun-Yet-Sun University. It was a fantastic experience and really enjoyed it. I went to Museums, monuments, restaurants, Malls, hotels and more. Positives: Transportation, Cheap goods, clothing and food, extremely safe ( I live in South Africa, so this aspect means a lot) and chilled people. Negatives: Internet ( Can't use Twitter, Instagram or Google only WeChat and Whatsapp) and Money.(Paid huge bank fees, couldn't use my phone or credit card at certain places and couldn't exchange money for South African Rands.) Other than that, China was a super great experience. I'm going to Shanghai in October. Any recomendations?

I have lived in Shenyang and Yichang for working purposes and I actually loved my stay. Shenyang was probably the coldest place I have ever lived but I liked living close to Russia. Once a month I would travel to Vladivostok to get fresh milk , cream, and cheese which can be hard to find in China. I loved eating all the different Chinese foods. I would eat naan and yogurt for breakfast. Jiaozi for lunch and snacks. For dinner i would just go to a restaurant nearby and pick a random dish off the menu. Sometime I would get fried pork and a sweet and spicy sauce. Sometimes I would end up with a pot full of mushrooms in chili oil. I liked how they would heat the water before they served it to me and i never knew i could drink pasta water. Now I do that all the time. Unlike the Italian guy I love Xi Jinping. I think his belt and road initiative is a wonderful idea and will do much to raise those countries out of poverty. I am planning to return to China as soon as the pandemic is over. Sadly when i left before it was because of my ex girlfriend who was living in Cambodia at the time. She would quit her job as soon as I left and complain that she has no money to pay rent which would mean i would have to fly back to get her money so she would not be homeless. Luckily for me last Christmas she told me she no longer wanted to be with me because I am a selfish person and do not support her. Fine with me it is her loss and my gain.

So as a foreigner who has lived in China in the past I'll just get it out of the way that I absolutely love it, it's my home away from home and if I have the chance to live there again I'd do it in a heartbeat. Life there feels significantly more exhilarating than back in the US. The main thing that bothers me about China, although I can't fault them for it, is the level of inclusion within society. It doesn't matter if you've lived there for more than half of your life, if you're not ethnically Chinese, you'll never be fully integrated into society or be thought of as Chinese by other Chinese people. There will always be some level of isolation and disconnect between you and Chinese people. You will always in one way or another be reminded you're an outsider, sometimes in good ways and sometimes in not so good ways. Chinese people have a very strong sense of national identity and that barrier is almost impossible to break through, no matter how good your Chinese is or how culturally aware you are. Just be prepared for it, you may not fully believe me or understand how deep this runs in Chinese thought, but trust me if you're there long enough you will feel it. It's just an adjustment as an American where the general view is anyone can move to the US and eventually become an American and actually be seen in other people's eyes as just as American as anyone else. That won't happen in China. With that said I love China and encourage everyone to see it for themselves before writing it off as too polluted, dirty, or restricted to warrant a visit. It's an incredible country that will change your life for the better if you give it a chance.

GMAN kRIST, Understand your feeling but, really, it's not like that> Chinese people are as open to anybody as no one else , even myself, can be. Their strong bond is within the family, that's true... you don't have to be Chinese to belong and be accepted. It's about who you are and not what you are. I believe in these days, more and more government 'socialist' concern- issuing restrictions are broken down... and the world' one great humanity' is the most exciting thing happening n China today. Peace to the world.

@@yananneteoh9818 I'm sorry but that just hasn't been what my experience is like in China, and all the non-Chinese friends I know who have lived in China agree with me. I'm not trying to say anything bad about China, I love it there and actually still prefer living in China over living in the US. However, it's just not true that me, as a white American, can move to China and be seen by Chinese people as anything but an outsider. It doesn't matter if I've lived there for over half of my life, I will still always be seen as a foreigner who doesn't and can't understand all the different aspects of life as a Chinese person. I was reminded every single day while I lived there that I was different from everyone else, and that inherently leads to a level of exclusion from normal society. I'm still accepted as a friend and colleague by most Chinese people, but I will never be accepted as one of them in the same way Americans are willing to accept an immigrant from India who has lived in the US for the last 30 years. China is still just a very homogenous society that hasn't quite had the exposure to immigration or foreigners that most other countries have already had.Also, regarding the restriction issue, I actually think China has gotten more restrictive since Xi Jinping rose to power.

@@TheDynastyWarrior13 , I'm Malaysian Chinese but I've been to China 3 times and worked in a small town outside Guangzhou for 7 months. I felt the Chinese have a very close bond among themselves, strongly forged through their history and culture but I 'd never felt more love, caring and support - all given freely, generously and magnanimously. It is a very homogenous country inspite of the 56 (?) ethnic diversity. American friends are open and accept one but their friendship can be superficial though highly emotional. I believe the environment and how people associate with it plays a major role in inculcating a particular bondage between people and with nature. I agree access to Chinese citizenship is highly restricted but not closed... there are a good number of western communists or socialists who have immersed wetland truly and hold Chinese citizenship or green cards, with and without marriage. Every society is different and unique... I'm sure if you love China very much, you will be one of the Chinese in China... and I hope XiJinPing will continue to make changes for a 'shared community.' At the moment, the western world is very racist towards China,excluding it from anything positive or good. It's a bizarre situation , an unfair competition but outside that, many parts of the world give credit to China for the amazing country it is.

@@TheDynastyWarrior13 I re-read you reply and wish to say that from my own observation of other British I met who have lived in Guangzhou forever a decade (English/Scot married to Chinese ), they are not excluded in any way. I think most Chinese open themselves to which ever 'foreigner' without thinking they're different and this is absolutely true. On the other hand, there 're some people, Chinese and British alike, who always have a barrier along racial lines, be they friends or in relationships. I can see that you genuinely enjoylivingin China and love the country ... I'm sure you'll see with new eyes everyday. One thing I will pass to you due to your love for China, is that some Chinese who are strictly into 'chuandong' or tradition like myself, are not touchy feely at all but that doesn't mean they don't love you or accept you. In fact, many of us overseas and mainland Chinese alike, believe that many mainland Chinese have lost this rather Confucian tradition and have become so westernised, they hug and kiss strangers and friends freely.

@@yananneteoh9818 I'm sorry but I guess we'll just have to disagree. As just one example, simply because I'm not Chinese I'm not allowed by law to practice Chinese law in China. Another example being frequently when I want a taxi the drivers will purposely pass me up and stop to pick up Chinese people. Certain hotels are not allowed to serve foreigners. People constantly stare at me or shy away from speaking to me when I go up to have a conversation with them. I have also been told by many of my Chinese friends that parents will have trouble accepting that their child marries a foreigner and hopes they marry a Chinese. I know all of this isn't always true, it's only true some of the time but these are just examples of how there is and likely will be a level of exclusion for a long time. I'm not angry or upset about it, I 100% understand why it is the way it is, all I'm saying is that if you're a foreigner living in China, expect to feel a bit disconnected from society, you will be treated differently than Chinese people.

I went to China about five years ago. As a blonde woman especially when travelling around more rural areas people would approach me and ask for pictures etc, which was alright and nice sometimes cos I got to meet many people and occassionally chat with them, but the worst experience was when in one place people were super aggressibe about it and so many people would touch me and my hair and pull me with them or pull me into their shops, people wouldn't leave me alone when I told them to. It was so bad, especially the touching me bit that I put on sunglasses and hid my hair under a scarf because I was constantly having panic attacks until we left that place again. But other than that China was really, really lovely, and i met many wonderful people and now that it's been so long I desperately want to go back and maybe even live in China - just not the countryside :D

Get a VPN and dont drink the tap water, if your looking for futuristic stuff and good food go to the major cities east or south, go central or more west to see nature and meet new people and see new cultures, and DO NOT GO NORTHWEST. Northwest, specifically Xinjiang province is pretty heated because of the whole concentration camps controversy going on over there, so I didn’t go. Visit China if your looking for an adventure, but be careful with following the laws, they are very strict. And again, GET A VPN.

People stared at me and would do anything to get away from me, not because they are bad people but probably just scared that I would talk to them. It was a very enriching experience though and i am glad that i did it, but was also happy to leave again :p
