I love my goat dairy herd. I really do! If you're thinking about getting goats and milking them, take some time to see what's it's like to see if you'll like it! I sure hope you do!
Every day, I'm milking 6 goats. I'm breeding 4 more this fall, so next year, I'll be milking ten and the next year about 6 more. That's the plan anyway.
What do you think about milking?

I adore my milk herd, just started morning milking today as we sold our kids yesterday and I just love that time of day, there's a calm and peace in it that's just a great way to start the day, pray and spend time with God and these beautiful creatures 💕

That was the best turkey hug. Didn't know they were so endearing. Milking is a lovely, calming action but not for those with carpal tunnel. The wrist pain is unbearable. I think a lot of people tire of the experience because as rewarding as it is, it is also ALOT of hard work. Your heart has to be into it. (as yours obviously is Delci. 🦃🥛🐐🥰)

The turkeys we raised (mostly inside 😏) and handled a lot are the sweetest. The ones that were hatched this summer and spent their time with their moms, aren’t friendly…sadly. Because turkey hugs are the best 😍 Yeah, pain while milking wouldn’t be fun! And it is a very dedicated sport-can’t miss or be away much!

No snow!!! And it’s been very warm for this time of year! I’m LOVING it! But somehow we still need to get our moisture so next year we have grass and no fires 🤔 I’m not sure how to have both 😆

I’m milking six right now. One (Opal) has been in milk for over a year and a half now. Two that I’m milking now are taking a break from kidding for a year. It was their 7th year kidding this year, so they get a break. But I’ll keep milking them through the winter. With what I’m breeding now, I’ll be milking ten next year and 15 the next year. Im selling one gallon a day currently. And could sell more if I had it. I am in the I’ve got to keep some of my doelings, so I know what I’m producing phase. But I do have to get rid of wethers and bucks! Too many of those!

Always one that dosnt listen and runs 😂. Be interested to hear how you have them separated in groups and why the milkers are so much farther out rather then up by the milking barn. Always love to learn! I’ve only got 4 does I milk currently but your huge herd is my goals!

@@Commonmomhomeschooler there is always one! 😂 I’m breeding them right now. I have a plan for how I want it set up. I had hoped we’d have fencing up by now but with haying taking so long this summer, we didn’t get to it. So this was the quickest way to set up a pen…although not as convenient!

Delci can you PLEASE do a video on every step you had to take to be able to sell raw goats milk? I have realized how BADLY I want to start selling raw milk but have no idea where to even start. I know it varies by state, so your exact steps won't necessarily be mine, but I think it will still help. ❤❤❤ I named one of my goats after you LOL

With the size of your herd, why do you use small square bales rathwr than large round bales?

Delci, what treat do you give your goats on the milking stand? I've tried and tried to find something my one milk goat will eat but she doesn't like anything! And if she finds something she likes she will eat it so fast she gets through eating and will not let me milk her out unless I harnes and hobble her. I wish I could have nice milking experiences like you.

I’m so sorry she’s being a stinker! That doesn’t give it a nice calm feeling while milking. I have a 14% protein pellet I’m giving and some whole wheat or barley. Sometimes I’ve had a goat be stubborn about the wheat but when it’s their only option they finally actually give it a try and realize it isn’t so bad. I also have Delight, who swallows her grain whole and just wolfs it down. She’s also the one I hobble. I give about three scoops but I don’t give it all at once. So I keep milking with one had and then turn and pour in another scoop when the first one is done. And then milk fast 😏 I’ve also had to be firm with her, like a training session with any animal and tell her “no!” Firmly when she’s being a stinker.
