SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe!

Colin, it is truly scary how complicated a modern superyacht is. I'm a car guy, and it makes troubleshooting a car look like a cake walk. I can't imagine how hard that thing is to work on when something goes wrong, big thumbs up to you for being able to make that ship run.

If your a car guy, you prob have the chops to be a boat guy. You just have to learn the systems. It’s like a car writ large. A big plus is all the sensors aboard that tells you exactly what happening right?

Awesome video. I was a Craftmaster in USN on 135 ft LCU. Same deal with me and Cheng (chief engineer) need to be on same page ALL the time. Surprised you don't have inflatable boots on the shafts for fixing the seals. Don't have to go swimming and get wet either. Cheers.

@@Drvanosdrand Heavy* And on my 310ekp you'd be right. But that's a wire reinforced gasket for a 19" pss stuffing box. That box is $4500 and replacement gaskets are well over $250 each. Hard to get the exact price as they are special order. Here are some keys. The words "marine", "custom", and "superyacht" in the same sentence, nothing is similar to anything in your world. That dining room table, for instance, is $600,000. Plus the chairs. Whole other world out there brother.

Super cool. I had a funny French friend who was a super yacht captain... before he became a Burning Man freak. He grew up in South of France and became known by "sailing" half sunk ships back to port. He ended up getting his helicopter license as well which put him in charge of the bigger yachts with helipads on them. Smart move. Unfortunately he died a few years ago piloting a small plane at a festival. RIP Roch.

🙏 🙏 🙏 *SUGGESTION: I’d love if you’d please make detailed videos discussing your job as an engineer and Q&A videos on superyachts.* The more detailed information, stories, and day-to-day life that you include is better. QUESTIONS: And not just about being an engineer but also about life on board the yacht? What type of yachts you’ve worked on? Dynamics between the rest of the crew? How much you worked on charter vs private? How long were your contracts (e.g., ongoing rotational schedule between you and another engineer every 1-3mos, did you work shorter contracts of maybe 3mos, did you usually work permanently on a yacht with just 1-2mos off per year, or what)? How much do charters usually tip (I’ve heard it’s about 10% of charter fee but often that doesn’t seem like enough per crew member)? Your day-to-day life both on charter and off charter? More about how you started in the industry and moved up, including time in each position before chief engineer? How much the captain supervises the chief engineer? How much does the chief engineer keeps the captain updated on what he’s doing, etc? How necessary do you think chief engineers are on yachts (practically speaking not legally) because nearly everything is monitored electronically from the bridge? Alternately, do you think superyacht engineers are underpaid compared to captains, or do you think the pay disparity is appropriate based on knowledge/value/duties, (I ask this because to me as an outsider it seems easier to be a captain than to go to school and be an engineer)? What level of licenses do you have as a chief engineer and do you have any captain/mate licenses? Other questions I’m curious about but I’m not as dying to know: On different yachts you’ve worked on how many charters did it have per year and were they normally during certain months, How many times did the owners come on board per year and how long did they stay on? This could also bring in more viewers for people that want to search for information about charter yacht crew and how life is. I am actually one of those people because a few years back I came across the Bravo show Below Deck, which you undoubtedly know about, and was interested in seeing more videos about that so I searched about life on yachts and eventually I’m pretty sure that’s how I came across sailing channels. Now I watch about 12 different sailing channels on & off at different times. I always watch every video but a lot of times I’ve binged several videos at one time. Sometimes it’s almost too much to keep up with. Since there is a new Below Deck season starting you might get others like me that find your superyacht videos and watch everything else too. And even beyond all that, I’m sure a lot of your subscribers would be interested in knowing at least some information. I already watched this video but I’ve came back to the video now to make this comment. And the videos you make about working on a superyacht don’t have to be nicely produced like you normally make your videos, it can be more of a raw unedited video. The information is what counts. I hope you will consider my request. 🙏🛥🙏🛳🙏👷‍♂️🙏👨‍✈️🙏
