I'm in a psychiatric hospital now, except I'm in one where I live here in Wales. It's a mixed ward of both males and females. I'm not a fan of mixed wards but there isn't anything I can do about it. All the rooms are big with ensuite which is not to bad though. I was on a section 2 but now I'm on a section 3 which sucks. It's my 3rd admission now since 2016. My first one being a few days after my 18th birthday. You do make good friends from here though and I've got friends from here that I will be friends with for life. I've been in the same boat where I thought I was getting discharged but they sectioned me instead. I have recently been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. It took 3 hospital admissions just to get diagnosed. I've just got to keep my chin up and keep going💪

I'm from the US and I've only ever been on mixed wards. I've also never been to a unit that allowed phones

I have been in a psych ward 4 times in the past year and it was mixed. There were similarities and differences. We didn't have levels at all and were never allowed to leave the ward. Our room had it's own bathroom, but the shower was in the hallway locked, there was three showers. We had so many scary and intense moments there. I was always lucky though, I always went to the same place each time.

I know I'm sick enough to be put in a psych hospital but it terrifies me. Sounds like my worst nightmare. I'm so private and I'd hate it so much. I think it would make me feel worse. I feel like I need a permanent holiday. Being an adult is so hard. Staying in top of cooking healthy meals and tidying and cleaning my house and caring for my guinea pigs, maintaining a strong relationship with my family and socialising with my friends. Spending time with my boyfriend , dates and sex etc. Remembering to go to doctors appointments, opticians, dentist, hairdressers, fucking showering and brushing my teeth, plucking my eyebrows and shaving my armpits and legs! Keeping on top of the maintenance on my car and not procrastinating filling it with petrol! Exercising, meditating, going to therapy, reading, watching films and KZbin for "fun" it's all so much effort! Plus having a full time job so that I can support myself and pay for all this mundane shit. I miss being fucking 16/17 when all my money from my Saturday job could go on makeup and clothes and cinema trips and meals out and now I barely have enough to pay my rent. I honestly never realised just how expensive life is. It's so worrying. I just can't afford it. I can't not work because sick pay is shocking and the stress of the debt it gets me into makes me spiral further downwards. I really don't want to spend the rest of my life like this. Higher paying jobs are more mentally challenging and I had to step down from my assistant manager role because it was too stressful for me. Such a negative job and so underpaid for all the crap I had to deal with. I'm getting paid £200 less every month so I'm struggling so much more now even though my job is better. I've only been back two weeks after having 8 weeks signed off and it's hard. I feel like my whole life is going to be a struggle. Is it worth it? I'm not suicidal I'm just really unfulfilled even though I have everything and I come from a middle class, white, loving family. Honestly more money would probably solve 80% of my problems. I refuse to scrounge off of the government or my parents. I don't deserve tax payers money and my parents deserve a break. They have two mentally ill daughters and I know it must be awful for them 😞 I'm sorry this is so negative and I hope it didn't trigger anyone but I feel anonymous and safe here and I wanted to get that off of my chest without anybody rolling their eyes at me and telling me to pull myself together!

please don't think I'm trying to trivialise being in hospital, but whats rather interesting I noticed that your description of a psychiatric hospital is strangely similar to my experience of boarding school. The daily routine is basically identical (when you speak about meal times), constantly being surrounded by people looking after you, you lose all privacy and you are bound by rules. And we always had 8 pm toast and hot chocolate! not for meds, we were just hungry. Obviously there are massive differences between them too.

My ward was mixed but that was adolescent and bcs of that we got our own bathrooms. My friend got her thrush cream taken of her and to get it back had to be examined by a doctor...
