What a wonderful example of parents allowing a child to explore nature. It proves to me that it doesn’t matter if you live in a mansion, a reasonably nice place or even a narrow boat. You can still provide a great childhood experience that will be with them their whole lives. Parents! The backbone of society!

Take it from my mistakes with my first. Letting them off with throwing things like food and joining in rather than making a point of it will bite you in the bum further down the line guys 😂 no judgement at all I love you guys. But I feel like Jo is too lovely to ever tell William off 😂❤ he’s such a cutie but you have to nip things like that in the bum early. At this age they know that’s wrong. Again, just saying from experience we’ve all been there! Please don’t take this the wrong way as I adore you guys! But I was stricter with things like that with my second and it made such a difference ❤

The Bridgewater is owned by Peel Holdings, but there is always the Leeds and Liverpool Canal suitable for Wide Beams and its part of the Canal & River Trust holdings, but of course in a wide beam there is a barrier across the country between north and south which only narrow beams can pass through - the solution to that is a Dutch Barge, still a wide beam but capable of going down the coast to get to the southern wide network....

I live in Worsley, on the Bridgewater, and there's a liveaboard on a wide beam near to Worsley Cruising Club just down from Patricroft Bridge/Bridgewater Mill. He's been there for years! He'd know if you wanted to ask questions. I think you may wish to be nearer Altricham/Sale area which I'd consider a good area. The Bridgewater Canal is owned and run by Manchester Ship Canal Company which is owned by Peel Ports Ltd I believe. I've no idea how much a licence is, or mooring requirements etc but I know if you are a CRT licence holder then you can use the canal for 7 days free but then will need to pay after that. Good luck with the search!!!
@PaulStrickland2 ай бұрын
I was just about to say the same thing about the ownership, there is a BW Canal Trust but they definitely don't own it, Peel Holdings doesn't like giving things up unless there is a profit to be made!

I have the Mug, the Tea Towel and I have the Book......now I need a tee shirt so that when peeps tell me to watch Holly the Cafe Boat I can say "Been there-bought the Tee Shirt" I had a suspicion you were contemplating a wide beam seeing how you mentioned it before. I don't understand why CRT seem to be punishing wide beams TBH with the higher % hikes. If I were you I would look at a 10 or 11 foot wide beam because I follow a few 12.5 foot widebeam Vloggers (there's not many) and they seem to struggle with bridges and some they only just scrape through. Thanks for this one, pleasure to watch as always and although both your skills are way beyond Narrow Boats and Cafe's I'm so glad you are sticking to what you want to do and not what you have to do, it makes it all so much better........ Bridgewater, 64 kloms. Grand Union, 461 kloms. Big difference there. And with narrow to wide, the AOE's will be much different. Especially with another full-time live-aboard? Your ride down cut set me thinking. Before my stroke I used to cycle, racing bikes naturally. Every Sunday morning was the weekly "'ard" run. 100 kloms, in less than 2 hours, hilly. I loved that feeling, nearly as good as mountain climbing. Good one this week, black and yellow caterpillars, black and yellow bees/wasps/flies, all on yellow flowers. Willum has a good eye for co-ordination.

I understand that sentiment and I live on the land, an island but solid ground non the less. I'm called a tightwad because I go through this stage of marking something for purchase and spending weeks, even months going back and forth on the advantage of owning in relation to the investment. My gut turns upside down when I commit.

I agree with others who are expressing caution about widebeam boats on the canal system. The waterway needs to be substantively wider for them to not only 'fit' it but also to be accepted as normal by other boat owners. Big waterways like the Gloucester and Sharpness canal come to mind. I think the Thames/Severn/Trent would all be way too risky from a number of points of view.
