Definitely love this, I stopped using packaged anything mostly. I am going to try your bacon mayo! I have lost 50 lbs. and weight loss is slowing just a little but I keep tweaking everything to stay on the straight and narrow! I am used to no sugar and can taste it in anything now in a restaurant. Keep em coming Doc! xoxoMarjorie

I am desperately looking for the answer of my question: Could it take a while for the weightloss to kick in while on keto? I am asking, because I have been keto-ing now for 3 weeks and nothing. No weight loss at all. I am using the keto sticks (I know, they are not super accurate, but at least I have an idea) and I seem to be in the middle range of pink/red. Since I am European, I don't eat processed or ready packed food anyway. I always stick to fresh food. So I cut out all sugar, wheat, carbs below 20 g per day and still nothing. Can it be that for some people fit just takes a little longer for the body to switch? I feel good, but I am waiting for the weight loss....sniff

@@Dragon-wl5ic hi, I'm European too😊 I strongly suggest you to begin intermittent fasting along with keto diet does wonders! And stick to those 2 methods for a while, don't quit if you are not losing. Sometimes, the scale is stalled but the morning after, suddenly, the scale has a huge number down (it happened to me, I didn't lost anything for 2 weeks, then one morning I weighted myself and I was 2kg down!!) Keep up
@Dragon-wl5ic
@Dragon-wl5ic 6 жыл бұрын
@@giorgiaathens674 thanks so much for your reply. I quit the keto thing. It did nothing for me, I didn't feel good and I was very bloated during this time. It didn't feel right if you know what I mean. I was in keto, according to my keto sticks, but I didn't feel well, energized or whatever and I did not lose anything, even after six weeks. It was just not for me and the fact that I wasn't allowed to eat fruit killed me a little. I still avoid the big carbs, su h as bread, pasta, rice etc., but I eat fruit and added beans and legumes. I also added potatoes to my diet, as they are full of good stuff. I feel way better. I'm less bloated and feel healthier altogether. I know keto works for a lot of people, but I might be the odd one where it doesn't work, lol. The most important thing for me is, that I feel good and I didn't while doing keto. Anyhow, I'm very happy that it works for you!!

Dr. Berry--------After watching one of your other videos, I did my own experiment! The first morning I had my coffee with heavy whipping cream like you advised and my blood sugar did not move. It stayed at 83! No breaking my fast!!! The next morning, I had my coffee with my Sugar-free hazelnut creamer-----My blood sugar moved up to 120. No food, just coffee and the sugar-free creamer!?! I looked in the ingredients and the second ingredient is Corn Syrup** The asterisks alert the consumer that there is a "TRIVIAL" amount of sugar; however, it made my Blood sugar move up to 120! Also, there is vegetable oil in the sugar-free coffee creamer!!! This creamer is marketed to those consumers that want to keep blood sugars low---not raise them! What a surprise! I've used this s/f creamer for years, but no more! Soybean and canola, maltodextrin, Sucralose, oh my! Thank you for opening up my eyes to this journey of health!!!!

I can’t thank you enough Dr Berry! Your videos are a treasure trove of information & encouragement & I appreciate them very much! Back in February I started losing weight doing a combo of calorie & carb reduction (calories kept under 1650-1700 & carbs below 120g or so). I lost about 40 lbs in 5 mths then began to stall. My sister sent me a few of your videos & trying IF & keto finally got the scale moving again! I must say I’m not strictly keto all the time, there are days when I go over my personal carb limit but I feel so much better! Baby steps right? Thanks again for all you do!

I have been binging your videos. I just started the keto diet a week ago. I can't believe how good I feel. My skin is glistening. I can't believe it. I see all kinds of wonderful changes. I did try this a year ago. But I didn't quite get the part of lowering the protein and raising the fat. I was miserable. The whole food part also is the key. Eating products that aren't made by man. I did some online studying on and got the real scoop. I can't stand butter in my tea though. But I found these nuts called pili nuts. They have the same fat and no carbs for a half of serving. These things melt in your mouth. So I started with that. I have a suggestion on topic. Stress of life. I tend to head to the kitchen when I get stressed with life, work etc. Although I do catch myself and not go off keto living. I haven't started exercising yet. I am hoping that will help. Thanks, Dr.Ken you're wonderful. Thanks for the bacon mayo idea. Now I can throw that jar in the frig away.

I like butter and/or coconut oil in my coffee or tea, the trick to making it good is you HAVE to blend it in the blender or with an immersion blender to make it frothy and starbucks-a-riffic. Just putting it in there and stirring did not work well at all for me

I agree. I'm not only looking at carbs, which I have done for years, but also now the sugar. Eating out is the trickiest, since you can't tell exactly what you are getting, even if the restaurant publishes a nutrition chart on it's food.

BlackOreoCookie you might consider evaluating your macro counts if you aren’t already doing that. Sometimes too much protein will stall you. I was surprised I was eating too much protein! I use Carb Manager app to help me keep track. Some folks don’t need to keep a handle on the numbers, but I need to do that for at least a little while. It’s helping me. Hope this is of help to you! Best of luck!

Dr. Berry-this is so timely. Just over the weekend, I cleaned out my refrigerator. I had bought orange marmalade to put on baked sweet potatoes, which I love. I thought I had been smart because there was no high fructose corn syrup in the marmalade, but of course, it has sugar. So that, plum sauce, and a lot of others hit the garbage. And no I'm not eating sweet potatoes for a long time. I had just decided yesterday that I was going to have to start making my own sauces and dressings again and you confirmed this. There is NO salad dressing I can find that does not have canola or soybean oil in it. Even when I get one of the healthiest spinach salads at a local restaurant, with blue cheese, I know I cannot escape it. Thanks for the reinforcement and encouragement.

I had a heart attack last May at 59; and when I asked the doctor the one thing I needed to give up to recover, the answer was simple; sugar. I was never naturally drawn to carb foods. But after moving in with a woman, for a few years, being exposed to her high carb diet and philosophy that all the starches, chocolate and sweet fruits were good for me, boom! Heart attack. I have been off carbs and alcohol for maybe 6 months and went from mildly overweight with a beer gut, to 31 inch waist. I wasn't even trying! i'm slimmer now than I can ever remember being and eat as much as I want. How ironic all those years the food I thought was bad was good and vice versa.

Feeling a little overwhelmed and ready to give in. I saw a commercial before your video that people over 40 shouldn't do keto or it won't work as well. i did it pretty good for over 6 months and lost 14 lbs and then nothing and more nothing for over a year. i admit i have gotten laxed but i started to think it just wasn't going to work and how can i keep this up and is it good for me at almost 50? I am assuming from watching all your awesome videos the answer is yes but I'm feeling very defeated and don't know where to begin...again. I really deeply want to deny that after 40 its impossible to retrain or heal your metabolism let alone lose the weight that I need to.. need some hope Dr. Berry!

I’ve tried keto/Atkins off and on for over 10 years. Subscribed to many keto channels like this one. Maintaining a state of ketosis is not a sustainable way of eating for me. Out of desperation I decided to go to a plant based diet. Its been 2 weeks and i feel wonderful and have lost 10 pounds effortlessly. I keep sugar low and avoid processed foods as much as possible. I always thought vegans were wacko hippies,lol. But it is working for me. I didn’t fail, keto failed me. Everyone is different, not saying one is right or one is wrong...all I know is that having plant based, natural carbs, along with the fiber that naturally comes with it has really improved my overall health. Everyone has their own path to health, and I truly respect those who have found success with keto. I came back here to offer encouragement to those who may be struggling with keto. Be open to other options.

Dr. Berry I’m a Bariatric surgery patient that is still trying to figure out the keto way of living. It was drilled into me that I need like 80+ grams of protein per day. (I weigh 230 right now) Will that much throw me out of ketosis should I reach it? It’s amazing that so much of what the surgeon and nutritionist told me to do (low fat everything, high protein etc) is so wrong. I think the Bariatric community needs to catch up with the latest facts. Because it leaves people like me so confused sometimes.

Dana Dunn ,u should lose weight regardless with the surgery, but I can understand maintenance but with the surgery are you able to eat that much anyways, start slowly and see how much u can eat.

Keyata Warren I had the Sleeve a year ago and have lost half of what I need to lose. So I still have the same amount to lose. The surgery was and is a huge help, I was just wondering how to do the Keto lifestyle as a bariatric patient with some different needs than most people. Even each Bariatric dr has their own diet so it’s confusion there as well. I am hoping keto will help simplify the way I eat and still help me lose the rest of the weight and then maintain it.

Dana Dunn , yes I understand I had the bypass 18 years ago keep most of the weight at a steady pace even after having 5 pregnancies (twins also), until about 2 years ago started packing on excess weight but tried the keto in Oct and lost 40lbs, cheated the month of December, but just try to keep your carbs at 20 grams daily n do intermittent fasting and eat good fats it actually works wish I would have knew sooner but eat your good fats and you actually stay less hungry and eat less, good luck girlfriend and congrats on the successful weight loss already. 😄

Dana Dunn How much protein you need depends on your body composition and lifestyle. In other words, does your body need protein to built/repair muscles after exercise or just enough to support everyday activities like walking? The thing with figuring out protein for a more sedentary lifestyle is to keep in mind, that it’s ‚lean bodymass‘ that’s the issue. However much fat you carry around doesn’t matter, because your body doesn’t need protein to maintain that, you only need it for whatever amount of musclemass (including vital organs like your heart!) you have. 1g/kg lean bodymass (or 0,5/pound) is kind of the minimum you should eat. If you’re a female and of average height, that would be around 60g, as a man 80g. We’re talking bare minimum here, mind you. Eating a little more is usually beneficial since it’s satiating and it shouldn’t be a problem in regards to staying in ketosis. I did some experiments with a ketone/blood glucose meter and it needed close to 200 g worth of protein in form of meat before things started to derail. I could actually tell, gluconeogenesis had set in...I was laying in bed that evening and felt like I had a fever...I was really hot despite being in a fairly cold room...couldn’t sleep...the body can’t store protein and mine was obviously desperately trying to burn off the excess energy. My blood sugar was up to 140mmol/l despite eating close to 0 carbs that day. So...don’t worry...under 100g should be totally fine.

I did buy the Ketone test strips and according to those we are both in Ketosis. We are only eating 15 to 20 carbs a day. We have watch several of your videos and thank you so much for making them, as we have learned so much! Thank you, Ruby, for your encouragement! That's all I've been doing so far, too, just Dr. Ken's videos and the comments. I wouldn't want any part of arguments, either. Interestingly, salads seem to be the biggest trigger for the diarrhea. Actually, I've had that problem with salads for years and was diagnosed years ago with IBS. I backed off the salads which has helped with unhappy tummy, but I don't want to eliminate salads altogether. Going to try again once I make some homemade salad dressing without the bad soybean oil! Fingers crossed!

Quick question: My husband and I have been doing Keto just over a month. His diet is for type 2 Diabetes, mine is to shed some pounds and support him so the dr. doesn’t put him on insulin. Which part of the label do I trust? We are allowing 2g or less of sugar per serving, but I have noticed somethings have sugar (or an alias of sugar) in the list of ingredients. Which has more bearing on bs levels and staying in Ketosis- ingredients or gram count of sugar? Thank you for your videos, I am learning so much and we are succeeding in our goals!!

I am not a fan of Mayo, but do use it. Took some looking but found that the "big" names Mayo that say olive oil or avocado oil on the front of the label do not have it as the only oil on the back of the label. Normally they are the third down the list after soy oil....yuck! I did find a brand in the "health food" section of the grocery that was only Avocado oil. Yes, it was expensive when compared to the others, but I keep telling myself "quality over quantity"

@Ruby Sage and others, may I recommend Follow Your Heart brand grape seed oil venegaise? 🤤😻 The jar says, “Better than Mayo,” and IMHO, that’s right! 🤤 Its ingredients are “non-gmo and gluten free,” directly from the label: “grape seed oil, filtered water, brown rice syrup, apple cider vinegar, soy protein, sea salt, mustard flour, lemon juice concentrate.” It has 9 g. Total fat out of 90 calories per serving (which means there’s 9 calories not accounted for among the ingredients). I buy it at health food stores in the refrigerated section.

Congratulations on reaching your goal weight! I’ve watched a couple of videos on how to best maintain the weight loss. What I’ve learned, if you want to stay keto then increase your healthy fats for the extra calories and keep carbs low as usual. That way you still keep enjoying the other health benefits of keto. Some people talk about reintroducing higher carb veggies like sweet potatoes, red onion, carrots and tomatoes. It’s your call I guess. Personally I will never go back to grains, soy products or sugar. All the best to you, time to enjoy that hard work you have put in.

I have been keeping 100% legal, as far as I know. But today's video taught me a few things that might be keeping me from not being 10O% legal and not knowing it. I chew gum for bad breath control that has sorbitol, aspartame,l and manniitol for sweetening. Uh, Oh...a No, NO! I've also been using a lot of pre-shredded cheese....also a huge No, NO! Dr Berry. After watching your video I decided to read the fine print on my supplements, D3, B12 and MVI. All are high quality well known “nature” sorts and became concerned! The first ingredient listed on the D3 and B12 was soybean oil. The MVI had maltodextin relatively high on the list. Do I need to be concerned? I am not always comfortable buying unknown brands , but could if I need to find some without these ingredients. Love what you are doing w this movement. Appreciative fan.
