There's a chip you can buy and plug it into the obdII to make it a V8 fulltime and by pass the V4 mode .. I have one and took it to the dealer for a airbag recall and they noticed the chip and told me it's a great move .. The collapse lifter is due to the VLOM solenoids wearing our and no providing enough oil to the AFM lifters during the V4 mode...

You wanted comments right..I always like to know the mileage..How the truck was maintained and driven..Were oil changes done regularly? How often? Full synthetic oil used? Was the truck driven aggressively? How is the oil pressure at hot idle? Do you plan to recommend a Range AFM disabler be added? I would! Roughly how much will this work set your customer back?

I'm not sure of the maintenance history on this truck, kind of a friend of a friend deal. If I remember right I charged him 800 bucks for the labor. He sourced the parts himself. I believe this truck had 120k ish on it but I could be wrong

Do you get a code when one misfires? I’m starting to hear a knocking sound on my 2013 silverado and hope I don’t have to ch get my lifters. I’m getting a Range Afm disabler tomorrow.
@farley4633

If it starts misfiring you will most definitely get an error code. Usually I tend to see problems on cylinder 6 the most. Not sure why

Check your exhaust manifolds first then make sure plugs, coils, and injectors are good. If you have other issues with a ticking take it in

Were you able to inspect the cam after you pulled the lifters to make sure the lobes aren't worn? I am having the same problem with a 2011 Silverado.
@farley4633
@farley4633 Жыл бұрын
You can look at the cam through the lifter bores. Generally the rollers on the lifters will tell the story, but once the lifters are out of the way you can certainly see each lobe on the cam

I’m going to try this own my own , what tools do I need ? Do I need to calibrate something? Or is it just replace and reassemble?
@farley4633
@farley4633 Жыл бұрын
Its pretty straight forward, you'll need some run of the mill tools, nothing crazy, quick disconnect for the fuel line. Wobble socket really helps with the y pipe nuts. I always pull the passenger side manifold off completely and leave the drivers one bolted to the y pipe, then just pull it out of the way with a ratchet strap. Once the heads are off its pretty cut and dry, put the new lifters in, reassemble, and let it rip

i've had a slight ticking on mine for awhile i always put marvel mystery oil in with every oil change, had the truck for 2 years now it's not knocking just ticking 171k on it been thinking about replacing those with a new oem set didn't wanna spend the extra money or the labor to change the cam to non dod. I do all the work on my stuff I just need to find a great replacement set that won't fail on me. dod afm thing has been disabled long before I owned it and still is. I think the 6l80 trans is on it's way out too that one a shop would have to do for me. Kinda scared to take it to a shop and it come back knocking because they ran it hard a few times as that's what they do to make sure it's gonna last. What's your thought on this?
@farley4633
@farley4633 8 ай бұрын
Are you sure it isn't the manifolds ticking? Very common on these engines. Honestly as long as you have the afm disabled I wouldn't really worry about it until it gives you a problem. Usually they only fail when they collapse to go into V4 mode then they don't pump back up. Keep the oil clean and you should be fine
@AaronBilger
@AaronBilger 8 ай бұрын
@@farley4633 Know anything about the 6l80 transmissions? I feel like it's been slipping fluid has been changed and no difference seems like it's been taking more rpm and time to get to 60mph was thinking of a trans rebuild but i know costes have gone up over the last 4 years. And i have a hard time believing any of these used transmissions are any good.
@farley4633
@farley4633 7 ай бұрын
@AaronBilger I changed alot of those transmissions on Express vans when I worked at Penske. I definitely wouldn't go used. They have to be programmed when you swap them too, its not like a 4L60E where you just bolt a new one up and go
@AaronBilger
@AaronBilger 7 ай бұрын
@@farley4633 just found a 6l90 I could swap in there, guy said it was just recently rebuilt at his shop $1500 but it's 2wd seen a video of someone cutting the tail stock shaft down to the shorter length to work for 4x4. The driveshaft needs to be shortened a tiny bit. Yes I already knew about the program. Is it the same thing as taking my scan tool and reprograming it like it goes through and shifts all it's gears through or do I take it to a dealer and have them reflash it? I have a xtool D7 with special functions.

Need help, is it possible for the valves to still be opening and this still be a problem? Maybe valve not opening all the way? Or would that be a cam issue? Thanks in advance!
@farley4633
@farley4633 Жыл бұрын
A collapsed lifter can very much still open the valve, but it wont open all the way. You could have a flat cam lobe as well, but I doubt that
@alanmorrison3598
@alanmorrison3598 Жыл бұрын
Did you replace the lifter trays? Definitely should have! By the way, any roller lifter can fail in these and other brand engines due to excess clearance between the lifter and the tray allowing the lifter to rotate with respect to the cam. New head bolts used? Ever had problems with pressure washing. Probably best not to.
@farley4633
@farley4633 Жыл бұрын
Lifter trays and head bolts were done. Never had an issue pressure washing anything. Don't point the nozzle straight at a connector and you'll be fine. Been doing it for years. Can't stand filthy engine bays

@@farley4633 Cool, I'm in Michigan as well. Might need to have you check out my 2011 Avalanche. Getting a little lifter tick upon some start-ups but goes away after a couple minutes. I bought it used of course and I can see someone has already been in the motor. My cam timing magnet (think that's the name) is just laying on the outside of the timing cover as if the timing cover was replaced. My thought was they did the DOD delete with new cam and lifters but really have no idea.
