What's the Best Oscilloscope for a Beginner?

I own about 10 scopes. although my PicoScope is my big gun, i always turn to my micsig automotive oscilloscope for 95% of my testing.

Micsig is only 8 bit vertical resolution though. Most modern 4 channel bench scopes can give you everything the Micsig does for half the price... Or you can get the Owon TAO3104A for around the same price as the micsig and it's a tablet with buttons just like the micsig-- except it's 14bit rather than only 8 bit. HUGE difference. That's 64x the vertical resolution; nearly as good as the pico. (which the Pico can go up to 18bit resolution) This is what makes the zoom work so well on lower voltage signals and nosie, etc.

Get a 2000 series pico and amp clamps and other accessories then when you get the 4425A big boy picoscope u have all your accessories like clamps, attenuators, probes , transducers ect

For 800 $ you could get a USB Autoscope lite kit with a bunch of accessories like pressure transducers that will do things that the pico will not.

Would you recommend buying an universal benchtop scope, regarding a dedicate automotive one? Budget difference is pretty big, even for a Migsig compared to a digital Peaktek benchscope, since i don't do cars, just motorcycles. Was thinking about a chinese Hantek 4 channel automotive scope it's about the same as a decent digital Peaktek benchscope. Thanks

was looking at the 4425a seems to be the standard...any other option that would be better to go with....dont want to buy again later down the road.

Hello. I'm a new Micsig SATO 1004 owner and follower of yours on Facebook. I bought my scope and then thought to search about setting it up when I found your channel on KZbin. I wish I knew you had it for sale with training classes before taking the leap to purchase. Anyway, I saw your basic setup video which helped me out a lot as I'm new to all of this. I am curious as to whether your vertical cursor issue was resolved. When I recently updated to version 15, the scope started to get quirky and I've had it for a little over a month so far. It shows an error when trying to check for further updates, among other quirks. Have you had a similar experience? I reached out to the seller and haven't gotten a reply from them yet. I only have a few days left to return it if I can't get it to work. Any info is greatly appreciated

Hello Geo, yes an update was sent out last year to correct it. If your unit is connected to the internet the update should be downloadable. Have you tried reaching to Micsig directly?

I'm still unable to check for updates, but I reached out to Micsig a couple hours ago via email. It appears I'm not the only one having this issue. I hope they are able to correct the issue. Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know what happens.
