2007 without doubt the best, and it is not even close. Almost half of these games are FPS games. When companies were able to make good FPS game the gaming was at its peak. Now there are no more good single player FPS games, everything is some multiplayer bs. Games became boring open world mess with time wasting mechanics and content fillers.

Late 1999 because Unreal Tournament and Quake III. I'm 49 and have been playing videogames since the Atari 400 and 2600. If you added up all the hours I've ever spent playing all games on all platforms everywhere, Unreal Tournament (plus 2K3 and 2K4) is at least 33% of all the time I've ever spent on games.

As someone that really liked Roger Ebert as a voice in art criticism, even when I disagreed, I hate that he’s dead because I can almost guarantee as a fan of the man he would have retracted that stupid comment about video games not being art. It’s probably the dumbest most out of touch thing he ever said but in his defense he had dumb/bad takes on many things and over time he was willing to retract or rethink his position after being presented with new information or experiences. In Chicago’s local black community (and beyond) the ongoing joke (that had truth to it frankly) was that marrying an intelligent black woman actually made a noticeable impact on how he thought and related to film & tv, especially compared to the 80s. But yeah Im with Scott on this one. Lol 👍🏾

Honestly I'd say 2001...Xbox and GameCube launched that year. 3 amazing consoles that had different strengths and weaknesses. So many ground breaking titles such as Madden 01, Metal gear sons of liberty, Medal of honor Frontline, Grand theft Auto 3, Halo, Onimusha. 2001 is imo the greatest year. PlayStation 2 launched in October 2000, but that's still close to 2001 and we all know it takes months to finally get quality games. 2001 changed the entire trajectory of gaming and set the stage for modern gaming. Halo and GTA3 revolutionized gaming.

I agree with this comment. The PS2 was my favourite console of all time and the games in 2001 were stellar. GTA 3, Gran Turismo 3, Devil May Cry, MGS2, Jak and Daxter.

I would add one game and one movie: - Detroit: Become Human (2018). Game where your choices impact the storyline. It's a game about the future and AI. - Incident in a ghostland (2018) is a very underrated, but thrilling movie. It's a horror movie. I won't tell you more. It's definitely worth checking both of these out!

For me personally the best year in gaming was 2004. Here are a list of games that came out during this year Madden NFL 05 NFL 2K5 THUG 2 Tekken 5 MGS 3 Spider man 2 The Chronicles of Riddick:Escape from butcher Bay Half life 2 Red Dead Revolver NFS Underground 2 Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines Fable Paper Mario the thousand Year door (can't wait for the remake,) Smackdown vs Raw Def Jam fight for New York Sly 2 The Incredibles:The video game GTA San Andreas (2004 GOTY and arguably the best GTA game of all time) Every game that was released during 04 was a banger.And it was also the year where any game could have been game of the year.

2004 easily: Counter-Strike: Source, Killzone, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Everquest II, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Jak 3, Need For Speed: Underground 2, Metroid Prime 2, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Metal Gear Solid 3, and World of Warcraft All of these games came out in November 2004, on top of that, throughout the year we had: Ninja Gaiden, Monster Hunter, Unreal Tournament 2004, Far Cry, Final Fantasy XI, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Manhunt, Thief: Deadly Shadows, Spider-Man 2, Tales of Symphonia, Doom 3, Viewtiful Joe, Silent Hill 4: The Room, Fable, The Sims 2, Burnout 3: Takedown, Rome: Total War, Metroid: Zero Mission, Dragon Quest VIII (in Japan), Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door And honestly, the list goes on.

As someone who has been gaming since the late 80's for me around 2004 was the best era in terms of AAA. Sadly AAA is driven too much by greed rather than creativity and its a horrible place to be for the most part barring a few companies and (Nintendo who do there own thing and feel like their own separate entity to AAA). But in the last few years we have had so many top quality AA, Indie and VR games that you could definitely argue some of the recent years have been the best years of gaming. For me the most exciting time in gaming was the mid 90s going into those early 00's, that era was magical to be a gamer.

For me it'd be 2017. Had Tales of Berseria, Persona 5, Tokyo Xanadu, Zelda BotW, Ys Origin (Vita and PS4), Nier Automata (though I've yet to play it tbh but it definitely hit big), Akiba's Beat (i liked it though it got trashed on as fans of the Akiba's Trip series view it as part of the series taking it in a different direction whereas i view it as a separate IP), Valkyria Revolution (similar story to Akiba's Beat though, I liked it but fans of Valkyria Chronicles didn't due to fearing all games in the VC series would go that route (they didn't, VC4 came out the year after), Ys 8, Super Mario Odyseey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. As a big jrpg/Mario/Zelda fan it was a very good year...hell if it was a WW release we could've had Dragon Quest 11 as well (wound up coming out in 2018 in the west). This year also looks to be very good (almost as good as 2017) for me/jrpgs as well as we got (assuming no delays of course for those not out): Granblue Relink, FFVIIR part 2, P3 Reload, Dragon's Dogma 2, Eiyuden Chronicles, Trails through Daybreak, Metaphor ReZero, and Ys 10 and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Only thing that's missing or me is a new Tales game, with that I'd be perfect (even if it was a port of game we didn't get in the west (about 5 are left that never came westward...2 being complete remakes of PS1 era games that do not feel as fun to play nowadays due to dated combat being very slow paced in comparison to new games or even games released back on the PS2 era)...hell even an enhanced one of one we got in the west may be nice just to get it on a current console if the old one's acting up). Hell quite frankly since 2017 each year has been fairly decent for jrpgs (some years better than others though like 2017 and this year as in both years they all had ones that were day 1 must buys rather than wait for later cases for 90% of the games released those years).

Ya...those 2 years combined were definitely nuts in regards to if you're a jrpg fan in particular (like myself)...hell if a few 2018 games came out in 2017 like DQ11, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Octopath Traveler, and Code Vein 2017 would've mega stacked for jrpg fans. Quite frankly since 2017 jrpgs have been getting good years almost every year since (this year will be probably the next best after 2017).

2013 was the last year of good gaming years as every year since has been getting worse and the final ok year was 2017 with 2018 giving us red dead 2 and god of war as a final token gift for that year, since then 2019\2020\2021\2022\2023 have been THE worst years in gaming and as things are going its only going to get worse until the industry does a 180 turn around and actually start making games as a passion instead of just a corporate money making machine.
