No, they like Silent Hill because it did things no other horror game dared to do at the time, and I'm still a staunch defender of later entries like The Room, Homecoming and Downpour because, for all their shortcomings, they innovated on the formula in ways that kept the games fresh and interesting (for me personally, I really liked the increased capability of Alex and Murphy in Homecoming and Downpour in terms of combat because they weren't helpless and it was fun to play around with what you could do), and the monster designs and meanings were spectacular (with the exception of the reuse of Nurses and Pyramid Head in Homecoming, I can freely admit those were blatant fanservice things and they had no business being there).

Konami had a chance to revitalize the Silent Hill series with PT/Silent Hills, but they decided to cancel it due to a combination of them screwing over Hideo Kojima with the MGS series & failing to accept that Kojima & Guillermo del Toro were able to make a legitimate scary entry better than they could. Now all they do is release SH themed pachinko machines so they can keep the ownership of the license & IP. I'm still pissed over the whole thing, especially since Junji Ito was going to be working with them on the project.

I thought Sonic would be on the list for sure. The game has had much more downs than ups in recent years, but the fanbase kept true and stuck with it. Is the grind as obscene as it was around, say... Shadowkeep year? The Solstice grind that time broke me. I did everything on it only to get a terrible sparrow that's just weaker than other options because someone decided to tie game perks to your hoverbike. And Christmas cookies made me realize they treat holidays as an opportunity to make people grind their noses off. When Season of the Worthy came along and explicitly locked a lot of the seasonal content behind Crucible of all things that was my quit moment. That's not even getting into the way the "endgame" just became a cycle of rushing to the light cap so you could farm gear to do horribly balanced pinnacle content in the short months before all your gear was obsolete again... I don't know how anyone keeps up with that kind of thing. Is that still the basic season structure?

For a suggestion: How about games/series that popularized mechanics, genres, etc. but didn't invent them. Examples like Street Fighter with combos and/or super moves, Resident Evil with survival horror, Gears of War with the active cover mechanic could be used, and you can also highlight the games that actually did innovate those things. Great list, agree to certain extents with every entry, though some of them I personally put in the category of "Don't kill it, just make it good again" like Silent Hill. I thought of Assassin's Creed as well, but that might need a good break more so than just being retired. Call of Duty should probably also be here, they're extremely up and down, and have seemed to be phoning it in for ages now.

They never finished it and pulled the plug. They have the Dynasty Warriors Empire games which were fun, but they were kind of basic in the strategy department. They also tried open world with DW 9 and that game was total trash. There are the Orochi games also which bring in characters from all the different Warriors franchises and from Ninja Gaiden. The Orochi games are my favorites. In conclusion: The Warriors games have tried many new things and they probably dont make as much money as they hoped. Maybe they should make a Souls like Warriors game and try that out next?
