The Samwise Gamgee comparison almost made me cry (those who are fans of the LOTR movies will know). The Holy Ghost is truly more loyal, I think, that we may deserve. You may ignore it, you may kick it out and even despise it a little, but He's always there, ready and loyal to help you no matter what you've done to Him. If that's not loyalty and love, I don't know what it is.

Had a physics test on Thursday. I prayed before taking it. One of the questions stumped me. It wasn't in the book. I asked the teacher, she responded: "notes." I'd been sick last week. Darn. I completed the rest of the test and just stared at the question. I prayed again. I selected an option, and... oh? I had this weird feeling in me. It was like having your shirt pulled + 80 kilograms of rocks in the bottom of your stomach. It's indescribable. I selected another option and it went away. Odd. I selected the previous option and... aha! It came back. I realised what was going on. I switched back to the good option and handed in the test. I got a 10! Perfection! I told my dad about it and he immediately pointed out that the Holy ghost reveals the truth. The right option was the true option. I've been listening for that feeling REAL keenly now. A feeling that is either warm or "dude wrong way". Looking back now I've felt that several times but just didn't notice what it was. :D Very nice fella. Wish we could have a conversation more in depth than praying and listening to a whisper of a feeling that gradually grows into a roar... but hey, maybe that is a nice enough conversation :)

Because I'm just as much a Lord of the Rings nerd, might I also add that there's at least one interesting moment in the book that comes to mind? In the Mount Doom chapter, Sam and Frodo are resting on the slopes of the mountain, when they both get a sudden sense of urgency, as if a voice had just said to them: "Now, now, or it will be too late!"

Also: there is a *strong* connection between receiving the Gift of The Holy Ghost & being Anointed (Isaiah 61:1; Acts 10:38; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22); in fact, zooming out, there's a strong, symbolic overlap between |Baptism⟩Confirmation⟩Taking-the-Name-of-Jesus-Christ| & |Washing⟩Anointing⟩Clothing|

This seems like a place where clarification is necessary, that ordinances are not a pre-requisite for salvation. They are for exaltation and other means of preparation, but only by faith in Jesus Christ is salvation achieved

I'm glad you brought that up, I was about to post a similar question. Where does forgiveness of sins figure into the covenant path? Also, if a person's sins are forgiven, would anything prevent them from being in God's presence? I'm not LDS, but I'm trying to figure out how it all fits together 🙂 "Abraham believed God, and God counted that belief as righteousness", like it talks about in Romans.
@LindyLime Жыл бұрын
@@jmalko9152 you have good questions. I don't have all the answers, but when I read your comment I thought you might like to listen to the talk His Grace is Sufficient, given at BYU by Brad Wilcox. It's on KZbin if you search. It might give you some good insights.

@@LindyLime Thanks for the information, I'll look for that video 🙂 In the meantime, do you see yourself as completely forgiven? Do you believe God sees you as completely righteous, like he saw Abraham? Thanks again, and have a good day 🌞
@LindyLime Жыл бұрын
@@jmalko9152 Do I see myself as completely forgiven? I have been completely forgiven on many occasions, but every day when I once more fall into error, I again have need for forgiveness. Does God see me as completely righteous? Maybe for like 3 seconds after I repent until I sin again. 😉 But to get at the heart of the question, Paul says "Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." (I have the KJV). Taken in context what this means is that Abraham was saved by the grace of God because of his faith (not his works). To me it seems like the main difference in the way Protestants see grace and the way Latter-Day Saints see grace, (this is probably an oversimplification and varies from person to person) is that Protestants see being saved as the end, while to LDS it is the beginning. Faith is not merely believing something, but a belief, trust, and love so strong that it spurs us to act on our faith and through this action we are drawn ever closer to God. And so while belief in Christ and being saved by His grace are the beginning of our journey back to God, it is also the fuel that keeps us going. Therefore we do not have "whereof to glory" of ourselves. (Romans 4:2) So, will my belief be counted to me for righteousness? I am saved when I have the faith to take hold of the grace of God. I am a work in progress, far from perfect, but it is by holding to His grace that gives me strength each day to try to be more like Him. And it is His power that transforms me in to what He wants me to become. Yes, I believe that it will.
@jmalko9152 Жыл бұрын
@@LindyLime Thanks for that info, too! 👍 Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, also in Romans 4 we have a quote from David Blessed are the people whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the person whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin. That sounds like something much longer-term than you were describing. Yes? No? Again, I'm just asking because I want to be sure we're talking about the same thing 🙂❤️

A good way to think of the gift of the holy Ghost is like your own personal liahona. God Gave lehi and his family the Liahona as a way to giuld them in their journey through the wilderness to the promise land. It operated according to there righteousness, it gave them instructions and messages from time to time. The holy Ghost operates in a similar way for us in our mortal journey along our path back to the presence of the Father.

@@pigetstuck I believe you can have the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Ghost (Spirit) is given to people who are baptized by immersion and then receive the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands by someone who has the authority from modern day prophets who receive authority from Jesus Christ. Just as the Apostles did in the time when Christ lived on earth.

Who is the Holy Ghost? He is not the Savior of the world, so as a member of the Godhead he is a witness that others besides the Savior gain exaltation. The current doctrine that the HG is a spirit that has never been given and kept his 2nd Estate (mortal life) is unbelievable.

One MAJOR mistake in this video: the Covenant path is STRAIGHT AND NARROW... NOT curved as illustrated in this presentation.
@Empisee Жыл бұрын
Common error. It's "strait" and narrow. Strait means narrow. Insisting that the path be "straight" sets you up for disappointment when twists and turns inevitably come up.

Slight disagreement with Gary. The main purpose of the Covenant path is to continue to stay on it by repenting and hanging on no matter how much it curves or goes up and down...just keep going upwards.
@ManInThePandaMask Жыл бұрын
If we're gonna be nit-picky about it, the "covenant path" is a term that's only existed for the last few years during Nelson's administration. There's not an ACTUAL covenant path, nor is it meant to be equated with Jesus' teachings about the straight (or strait) and narrow. They're not the same thing. "Covenant path" is just a short-hand way for GAs to describe one's progression through the covenant ranks. It can barely be considered a metaphor. Don't take the lingo (or their visual illustrations) too literally, friend.

How can you be sure that your burning in the bosom is really the Holy Ghost and not just your imagination???? You can’t! And that’s why I can’t be a Mormon. Faith must be reasoned, not blindly built upon subjective feelings. Mormonism is demonstrably false in a way that no other religion is, the facts don’t care about your feelings.
@simon_carrick8198 Жыл бұрын
Ok 👍
@RyanMercer Жыл бұрын
I understand your concerns about relying on subjective feelings for faith. However, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe that faith and reason can coexist. We are encouraged to study, ponder, and seek answers to our questions. The "burning in the bosom" is just one way the Holy Ghost can communicate with individuals, providing guidance, comfort, and assurance of truth through various means. A testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel is not built solely upon one experience or feeling but is a result of continuous seeking, learning, and spiritual growth. While some aspects of our faith may be challenging to understand or accept, many members have found deep meaning and purpose through their association with the Church and its teachings. I believe that the combination of reason, study, and personal revelation through the Holy Ghost can lead individuals to a strong and lasting testimony of the gospel.

The Holy Spirit can be everywhere all the time, your doctrine is in error and not biblical. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, and God's presence is everywhere. The Holy Spirit is behind every word of the Holy Bible. He is with us in our hearts, he is with each one of us who believes in Jesus Christ. He made the universe, he was with Jesus as he did His ministry, The Holy Spirt is in the word and God and the word are inseparable. The Holy spirit is the one who justifies those who are saved. He directs our prayers, he heals us. In the New Testament the Holy Spirit presence himself throughout. Luke 12:12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in every hour what you are to say. Luke 12:10" Anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven", you have denied and limited him. John 7:39 "But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified". If the Holy Spirit cannot be everywhere, then how could he be in every person who believes in Jesus Christ? Your doctrine makes no sense. By grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift from God. Not according to works, lest any man should boast. Ephes 2:8-9 Mormonism believes you must do more, that you have to earn your salvation by, ordinances, temples, religious external acts but all you need is to believe. the Holy Spirit justifies you, then God works through you and you become righteous, you must abide in Him and the word, but Salvation is a gift from God. You not only have the Holy Spirit wrong, but you also have Christ wrong, Christ is not created.
