Wow a non steering tag axel? That's like going back 20-25 years. I remember my first van hooll dubbeldecker, a stickshift that felt like stirring in a pan of soup, I had to lift the axel every tight turn and roundabout because the stiff tag axel would obliterate the brick roads over here(so in Europe that was basically every 10 seconds)

As a train nut, I find large buses interesting. Having a transportation network comprising both rail and highway (bus) connections provides a good solution to passenger transport. Personnel note, i the Sixties I took Greyhound from San Antonio Texas to San Francisco. Riding a Senicruiser for fifty hours, Then again, two years later on Trailways from Augusta Ga to the Bay Area. Greyhound won the comparison. Thank you James.

There are private bus operators that contract with. AMTRAK already. AMTRAK has some great routes and bad ones but loses money overall. If there was truly a demand for passenger rail services other than museum excursion types, the freight haulers would be scrambling to offer it. Not trying to disparage rail quite the contrary. If there is no market demand for something, you can forget about it. People are always wondering about a high speed train from LA to San Francisco. The best answer I saw was that we have that. It’s called a 737.

Hi, James ! Before I retired, couple of months ago, my last ride was a T927 « Astromega », 6-7 ft longer (total = 15 meters) than the 925s or the X25s. Fantastic machine !! (88 pax + kitchen + coffee machine + microwave + 3 fridges + toilet) You told us about the previous diesel version being « TDX925 ». It's actually « TD925 » or « T925 ». After "9" comes "1O", or X in roman characters.

It was a good test of the current state of the industry. The industries (battery, charging, etc.) will continue to improve and these extreme uses may become more feasible. I like you pointing out that using the right tool for the job is good. This is not the bus for cross country trips, but may be fine for local or short haul needs. ie. Champaign to Springfield and back

It was exciting and an adventures to follow your family as they journey across the southern US in an electric double decker bus for the first time in history! I do think ABC should of had a 50-ft charging extension cord and some drive over cable protectors ready for the trip. Short extension cords are on the market for Tesla chargers. I didn't find one for CCS chargers, but ABC could of had one made. It would be bulky without liquid cooling, but assuming a target length of 50-ft the bus could of been parked across the parking lot access lane so as not to be in the way of other charging vehicles and the long extension cord would have allowed switching from one charger to another when chargers didn't work. This would not be a cheap extension cord costing several thousand dollars to have made and would not have UL or some other consumer product safety testing. I will always remember this first BEV bus trip across the United States.

Well done as usual James. That monster certainly isn’t lacking HP and torque. I still think they could offer it with a small diesel or gasoline generator to avoid the long charging times and extra peace of mind at least for AC and heat. At some point James, please let us know how those TOURRIDER twins are doing and how passengers are reacting to them.

As a rider of buses, I've enjoyed watching your videos. I really wish a lot of buses came as BEVs or EVs. The buses that I am around are loud and I love seeing EVs around. That is bad that the bus didn't come with cup holders and I can't wait to start hearing drivers suing their jobs for not letting them drink water on the job.

A question about the charging plugs: Did I get that correct that you ONLY can charge with DC-plugs (fast chargers)? Seen from a European perspective this feels a bit weird. I agree that charging a 600kWh battery from a domestic plug is a bit unrealistic. But at least in Europe 22 kw Type 2 AC (somewhat comparable to SAE J1772 I'd guess) chargers are significantly more common than DC fast chargers. It still takes a long time. But if you drive a group to an amusement park (as an example) and sit around for 6 hours, you can refill 20% SOC of the buses battery, giving you an extra 50 miles. Another plus for AC charging possibility is that relatively long charging cables are possible. And even further - you have an emergency fall back position. So I am really wondering why such an Type 2 AC / SAE J1772 charging option is (arguably) not implemented.

The biggest problem with long distance electric busses is, after the loading infrastructure, is that it is not feasable with the current driving time regulations in Europe. You can't simply make 1500km in 21hrs with 2 drivers when you have to load 4hrs. But EV busses are good for public transport, school runs etc.

Good evaluation, for me I don't hate certain products per say, I just think more about prices of say charge cables and other little things, so your thing about Iphone stuff does actually ignite one of the reasons I choose android. Getting back to the electric v diesel argument, for me I would choose electric if I knew it would do the distances I could be traveling, nothing worse than having to stop driving and pull up at a service area for 3 or 4 hours or however long it takes assuming the charging goes without problems equally and no one unplugs you. It is this security alone which is why I would rather a petrol car, hybrid equally could work. It's not that I don't care about the environment, but for my security of reaching my destination when and need to be at for certain times. Whilst or I may not just run locally 80% of the time for me is not the point, the point again is I might get a call from a relative etc and need to travel and equally find out I got a 3-4 hour delay as I need to plug in to even cover that distance, I might equally decide to go on a random weekend away that again is outside of the range of the car. My conclusion is if governments stuck to hybrids then most I think would buy into that, it gives them the flexibility to fill up and drive long distances as needed whilst still cutting down on emissions, clearly the electric car/bus market and drivability is no where near close as needed at this time, so hybrids for me would be the obvious way to go, maybe in 30 years time it can be looked at again and hopefully as more and more infrastructure is made available and reliability and securing charging and not have people unplug just because they can, then maybe I could buy into this.

My tesla has same problem charging for long road trips Fayette County pa has no ev charging of any kind it would be good busness sense that truck stop and convince stores have ev charging. We would grab eats and drinks while charging, you can fuel your diesal coach faster then tesla getting a fast charge. Transit busses can use double trolly system to run and charge and use battery when on back street part of route. Transit operation is different cup of coffee verses charter and fixed routes intercity. Anything less then 600 miles the bus can do better then airlines because of the airport congestion and location check in. Even though run time of airplane is only hour or so take off to touchdown but you get stacked up to wait your turn to take off and land. Small airplanes can save time but getting car or ground transport is harder at odd hours. With tech you can bypass accidents and construction, big planes can't land anywhere the need airport services more then small airplanes😊

The reason this has become so political is because the government is forcing people to buy EV's. I live in a state that has banned the sale of new gas powered cars and trucks by 2035. I drive a 2018 vehicle that has to get annual emission's test. But if the vehicle is over 20 years, it's exempt. To the political powers in my state, that's makes sense to them.

As someone whos probably had a exponential amount of seat time in an electric bus compared to the rest of us... would you care to shed any light on the Proterra electric bus company filing chapter 11 despite having MILLIONS of government aid? Politics aside... are electric busses feasable? As a charter company is it something Peoria charter is even remotely considering? I've seen articles about the tesla pepsi trucks touting amazing range but I still cant get over your videos showcasing the struggles of charging with a large electric vehicle. Living here in CA, theres a looming deadline for electric vehicles to become mainstream... do you think its possible? I think EVs is a good idea, my problem with EVs is the cost, the cost shuts out the poor & lower middle class out of a vehicle that has benefits, second is the safety concerns, I hate to be around those buses when a thermal break down happens and what people don't think about is the magnetic field that battery and motor produces can be a health concern, and third is the environmental impact with the use of cobalt, lithium and other metals, I am not going to get into the forced child labor in many mines where the metals used come from. I am not against EVs ,but as a society 2030 is too soon and there are so many problems that are still needed to be fixed
