Absolutely. I've been several kinds of profession in my long life, as well as a stay at home mom for a while. At one time I decided to test my hypothesis that we carry ourselves differently and people treat us differently depending on what we wear. 100% - same person, same store or business, very different response. Sometimes it's subtle, but it's there. Moms: you ARE professionals. There are times for sweatpants (caring for a sick kid) and times to dress like the dignified adult you are (going to the bank or your insurance company). You will be teaching your children who you are.

I used to make my own clothes, and was quite a good seamstress--a skill that ran through both my grandmother's fingers. It was a necessity that I make my own clothes because my family didn't have a lot of money and the clothes I made "passed down" to three younger siblings. It was fine when I was young, but when I started working I got nothing but resentment from other workers. I had one co-worker who would tell me how much she "hated" me every time I wore something new I had completed. It got so bad that I had to quit sewing. I lost my sewing machines and serger in an eviction and I wear essentially the same thing (style of clothing) almost every day now. I am still ridiculed. I have dressed elegantly, and I have dressed in off the rack, what I can afford which isn't much. It doesn't matter what you wear, people are going to look down on you with contempt and hatred because that is the society we live in. Can't win.

The exception would, of course, be where function becomes more important. But even on construction sites you can tell who are the lazy ones versus the ones with a work ethic at the beginning of the day by whether they are wearing ripped and food stained clothing versus durable clothing that has at least been patched and resewn when it does tear.

I get the point re dressing; when I was a new mum, essentially I stayed in a lot but I’d make sure that my face was washed and daughter and I wore our day clothes. Funnily enough it’s sometimes men who judge more than women, particularly mums who would empathise with another wearing pyjamas. I feel if my wardrobe is in order, then that’s a good thing and where I live no one is fancy either, all sweat tops and jeans. It makes a difference though to differentiate between day time and night time.

Things seem to be getting serious i thought and joy entered in me anticipating how this will have subtle but such a huge possitive influence. And an answer came like this :D God is so awesome! You simply ask with genuine interest and answers just come. Though sometimes it takes years because you would not be able to understand and your whole view of the world need to shift as an answer to a question. Thank you for this interesting clip! May we all be in-spired to always dress worthily for others and for ourselves trying to reflect our divine value to each other!

He's not lying. I grew up blue-collar and have been treated blue-collar my entire life. We looked down on the suited class as being soft-handed and only wore suits for funerals and weddings -- and more of the former than the latter. All these many years later, I see the error of that way. The clothes make the man, whether we like it or not. If you dress like a bum, you'll be thought of as a bum. Worse, though, is that the very concept will seep into your bones, and then ripple out into the world around you. As a craftsman, I struggle to make the best quality and call folks out for being supposedly "conservative" yet not actively conserving things. Where are our craftsmen building great things? Our craftsmanship is an intrinsic part of who we are as a people. It's what sets us apart from "the other" and there are entire libraries filled with books from archeologists and collectors who have detailed the craftsmanship of cultures long since passed into the mists of time. Well, I do believe it starts with the person and their home. If all you buy is mass-produced chintz because it is cheap and easy..... what's that say about you? How does that ripple out? What's the difference between the average christian and the average atheist when they all wear the same clothes, shop at the same stores, eat the same foods, read the same books, and watch the same programs on the tv? As the clothes make the man, so too does what we surround ourselves with become a reflection of who we are. While Dr. Peterson counsels people to "clean their room", I would take it a step further and tell folks to really clean that room, embracing their culture and heritage unashamedly. Demand the best you can afford, even if that's not much. Better to have quality rather than quantity.

I have real admiration for you Mr. Peterson. You are a man who uses his God given gifts and diligently seeks what is true and good and beautiful. That is rare in our society. Sometimes, I cringe when you abuse the Holy Name. That is a violation of the second Commandment. Cardinal Collins told a journalist once in corrective humour; “They aren’t the ten suggestions”. God’s name is thrice holy and is given as gift to us to use in addressing him in prayer. I hope you will reflect on this. I offer this in gratitude for all the good I have received from the things you have spoken and in deep respect for what you stand for. 🕊️♥️

How revolting. Sorry you had to endure that selfish mess masquerading as a professor. Wish you could have a refund and a written apology from someone at that institution with a sense of honor. I still - with revulsion - remember some angry, militant woman (“professor”) I was forced to take who insisted the children’s classic “Little Women” was - and I quote - “a manifesto of lesbian incest.” She used to yell at and berate the only man in the class. It was a required class for those of us studying English Literature and I think of her with contempt to this day. We should not have to pander to - nor accommodate - personality disorders in professors holding their classes hostage to their ideologies and overall nonsense.

As far as going to the airport is concerned. Having had one bad landing where I simultaneously almost burned and froze to death; broke multiple bones;, and almost bled to death;, for starters. (Air Canada fight). I do think that practical clothing, possibly at least not likely to melt over you, might be something to think about. I actually forget what I was wearing, but I stopped wearing suits, at least for nighttime flights, after seeing the CEO of Merril Lynch in the lobby where I was staying in Frankfurt, dressed in wilderness casual for a flight back to Canada. I have three kids who are through or in Universtiy, and while I never grubbed for a mark in my life, I have to say marking at uni, oddly, particularly in the sciences, is often very sloppy. Their excuse for getting the math wrong is how tough the sciences are, and you better learn to take it. Some kids depend on the scholarship money, and they deserve better than to have math challenged bozos making excuses for their personal limitations. Tough marking to make the narcissistic profs feel important is another specialty. My kids thrived when there were high standards, but the games were not a respect builder.

What I like about the suits is not the suits per se, but their strategic significance. The left loves to distort Peterson, painting him as some kind of conservative individual who may pander to people to fit some mold. Yet the suits show that he is not afraid of creativity, which is usually a marker of non-conservative people who like variety and expressive meaning. This, surely enough, will throw them off in that respect.

The first time I noticed, he was on JRE and had on a dual colored jacket. I thought my ipad color had gone wonky 😂 I take notice of them especially now. I really loved the one he wore when he sat with Brett Cooper and their conversation was very interesting❤

thanks, i was wondering. it's a little distracting at first but highly individual and why not dress both nicely and with flair?

I wear suits when I need to, but I also wear shorts and t-shirts whenever I can. It's a comfort thing for me.

I miss when airlines had dress codes of how to fly… I was flying on a buddy pass and the lady wouldn’t let me on (it was summer) bc my shoulders were showing and that was against the dress code for the buddy pass. I told her I had a sweater I could put on but she wasn’t having it. Luckily my sil had a friends flying back on another flight so she transferred me to another and ended up having to land in another airport so my bro had to go across town to get me but that’s DC for you

Another elegant man that I have always admired is the singer #RodStewart who never gave in to the influence of the grungy fashion of most singers of the time. He was impeccably dressed with his flashy beautiful suits, the envy of ragged men. #2mindmatters #ReflexionMotivacion #ManuDirecto #EnPrimeraPlana #Academyofideas #TheRoyalwe

Black suits make the speaker less visible. An unusual suit makes the speaker easier to see from the back row. I like his suits.

I would like to see more people often wear suits, but the problem is that people don't get the idea that suits don't have to be formal. Suits can be fun and casual with the right fabrics and structure. Suits can have less structure in the jacket but still tailor nicely to the body, with more than two pockets or some suit jackets can have pleats in the back. You don't have to wear a suit with a tie or a dress shirt they can be worn with a nice knitted polo shirt or with a denim shirt. My point is that formality has rules to follow, but you are allowed to break them if you want, and Jordan Peterson is a good example when it comes to his crazy suits.

I've never owned a nice suit. I've always worn work clothes, cop shirts and twill pants. But lately I have gone back to my roots. When I was a kid I spent most afternoons at my neighbor's house. He was a tinkerer, and inventor, and a street peddler. He paid me a nickel-a-piece to disassemble mechanical pencils, and then he would hand-carve beautiful wood casings for the pencils. He always wore sweats ha ha. So lately, when I'm at home and not working, I just wear nice comfortable sweat pants and shirts.

5:36 One of the incredibly few things I disagree with Jordan on, and apparently Aquinas. I see it from the perspective of one who was raised around people who did not dress well to show respect to others, but to gain respect from others based on the clothes. As George Carlin put it, a "clothing contest", though he was referring to churches at the time, its the same in principle. Prideful people doing prideful things. Frankly, seeing it as respect for other people is quite a foreign idea, because so few people actually use their wardrobe that way.
