Frank was a terrible father & husband. I was hoping as I rewatched the show that his parenting skills would improve, but they didn't. He was so cold to his children until the later episodes. He never listened to Dee when she tried to help him see reason. It was painful to see how many times he shut her down when she was supposed to be his partner. He refused to ever apologize to his children when he was dead wrong. He always believed the worst of Moesha and Dorian. Miles was an afterthought for several seasons. @@Happy.Thoughts. Well, part of the problem of the series as it went on was with the flanderization of characters, such as Junior in which he became more and more dim with each season in the grand tradition of sitcom sons during the 90s and 2000s. But at the same time, Michael was abusive to Junior both physically and verbally in which he's always smacking the back of Junior's head and saying condescending things to him, as well as him and the rest of the family practically fainting in disbelief when Junior expressed wanting to go to college, as though they thought that he was too stupid for college. In addition, Junior didn't deserve to be kicked out or to sleep in a garage for what he did, as a more reasonably fair punishment would be to take away his driving privileges until he turned 18 years old. But overall, Michael Kyle is a hypocrite of a father in which he wants to teach and instill values onto his kids, yet he makes the same mistakes as his own kids, with no one calling him out on it.

Frank was human. Not tv perfect but a realistic representation of a man that's learning how to be a father. What was his upbringing and influences? He was old school and always tried.
@RacCkhn Жыл бұрын
You can not call yourself learning to be a parent while having kids already. That is the problem right there. Too many adults make stupid decisions and never atone for the consequences until way later in their life or they never atone at all. Being human means quickly learning from your mistakes and actively trying to do and be better. Being stagnant and complacent and uncaring is how a lot of old school black parents were, and they should not be cut some slack for that. Black parents are the spinal cord of the community, black parents have a duty to correctly raise and prepare future generations of children, but a lot of our black parents never seem to comprehend that. They too busy avoiding accountability or not going to therapy or making excuses for their own narcissism or abusing their children and calling it anything but abuse. We will never prosper as a race if we can't prioritize being our best selves. Frank Mitchell sucked, a lot of black parents do. But mfs are to old to just settle and stay that way, Black parents need to mature and stop not taking their responsibilities to their kids seriously.
@twandatnggah Жыл бұрын
@chasemanhattan9995 I couldn't disagree with you more. The outside factors Black people have had to deal with for generations while trying to be responsible adults have played a major factor in reality. There's no such thing as a perfect parent and there never will be. The fact that a parent continues to try and learns from their mistakes while acknowledging them shows they want the best for their child. This fictional character (Frank) reflects just that. Every parent learns to be a parent by being a parent that's how life works. Your view seems very personal you should look into counseling it can be very beneficial.

@@twandatnggahIt’s not personal, it’s the truth. It’s the reason why mental health advocacy is so low in the blk community. And you forgot a lot of old school blk parents are not acknowledging the damage they are doing and have done to their children by passing down trauma. It’s a reason slave mentality is a thing because a lot of us in our community think the fallacy of “I was raised in a traditional aka traumatizing way and I turned out fine!” No you didn’t b/c you can look at your relationships and everyday interactions and see why not. That nobody is a perfect parent is a deflection from accountability instead of saying I messed up and here is where I messed b/c my parents messed up so let’s both try to fix it. Frank Mitchell is a mirror image of a family member of mine whom is undisclosed. It's sad to see Black Fathers struggling like this. I figured it out; his divorce left him traumatized to the point he refused to get help himself. Then letting pride and ego get in the way by tearing his family apart. I also believe he couldn't connect with anyone socially in the generation of the 90's teenager, mainly his reason why his mentality is strict as it is. The boomer period is distinguished from everything that is relatable moving forward therefore they get lost in the shuffle. One thing people should be thankful for, he was there for his children despite how he treated them. In return Moesha, Miles, Dorian, and Hakeem taught Frank everything different about life which is the opposite about how he preached his. God forbid Frank was real he'd probably end up with a terminal illness and suffer in return, slowly regretting everything he did to his family.

Frank may have been human and had his issues. Sure. That's fine. But it's having all of those issues already, and then adding on to them with the horrific fact that he not only cheated on Marguerite, the wife and mother of his daughter, he also had an outside baby and DENIED HIM. Then went on to have Myles and STILL denied his first son. Then Marguerite dies, he gets married to Dee, gives her parental authority over his chosen children and STILL lies to his family and denies his first son. Sure, Frank may have made wild ass parenting mistakes -- especially with Moesha (that slut shaming mess, tramp or otherwise, was crazy), but that's not what makes him the worst TV father. It's the fact that, as a father, he actively and intentionally LIED to his children while denying another child. Dorian was denied a father because of Frank's cowardice. That's deadbeat as hell.

THANK YOU! Like anytime on social media someone mentions about Frank being a bad father and all the stuff you said someone always talks about how the writers did him dirty just so Ray J can get more storylines in the show. And talking about how this put a negative spin on black fathers. Like this doesn’t happen in real life for all races. Look how Frank was before Dorian came on the show. Called Moesha his own daughter a tramp (I don’t care if she was spreading her legs to every guy she met you don’t ever say that). And you forgot to mention him pulling her out of her school and transferring to another after catching her & Q in the act in her room. Moved her to another school away from her friends like that would somehow fix the problem. And in that episode where Q’s dad tried to have a heart to heart with him on how to properly handle the situation Frank just blew him off and told him to mind his own business. Q wasn’t gang banging he was looking to be a music manager. And we can’t forget when Mo was in college and at a party an unknowingly drank spiked punched and was drunk for the first time. She knew she couldn’t and shouldn’t drive drunk. So she called her dad to come help her but Dorian answered and went instead and got Frank’s car towed. Now Mo wasn’t fully there to ask if he had a license she just wanted to get somewhere to sleep since she had class the next morning. And the next morning Frank doesn’t even bother to awake her and she ends up missing that class and when she asked why he just brushed it off like she wasn’t responsible for getting drunk. Like dude she wanted some punch and didn’t really think that it’s spiked (telling me that she didn’t hit up parties a lot to know that some people spoke the punch). Like he wasn’t understanding that she wasn’t trying to get drunk. I keep rolling my eyes at people defending him. He was misogynist towards women like you said. Always expecting Dee to have dinner ready when she’s a high school principal and has to deal with rowdy and honey teenagers it’s like for Frank he thought he was better than anyone that didn’t go to college or ran a business like him. Judged Q for being a thug when he wasn’t one. I remember when Frank’s nephew Clark nearly got himself beat up for booing some gangsters for their bad rapping skills and Q defused the situation. When they made Frank be Dorian’s father I was happy about it cause it adds to him being a bad dad and an asshole. He’s not a total bad guy but he’s an asshole. Sucks that Sheryl Lee Ralph couldn’t see it and left the show. And if I was a writer on the show after she left I would’ve wrote that Dee left him after realizing he’s not a great guy. He cheated on his first wife, was always expecting her to do “wifely duties”, always treated Mo in low regard, looked the other way when Miles got in trouble, judged Q, and just straight up full of himself. And if she didn’t like I would remind her she decided to leave and I wasn’t writing in that she’s bad. I would keep it where Dee saw that the man she married wasn’t what he claimed to be and thought over all the stuff he did and said towards his own daughter and how acted very misogynistic towards her and Mo and decided to think of herself and left him.

Frank was a great dad until they sabotaged his character at the show’s end . The writers turned him into a dead beat dad. They made his nephew into his son because of an extramarital affair. The show went downhill from there. The writers of that show dropped the ball. They turned a positive black family into a stereotypical broken family.

The show's narrative proves how much black men+fathers are never given the benefit of the doubt or depicted as villians if everyone else can't get their way. Is it possible that he was struggling with the loss of moesha's mom and guilt of having another kid and didn't know how 2 process it while seeing moesha's risky behavior as a reliving of that loss? She had boys in the house/her room and was getting tattoos and lying about being in their company as a minor but was expecting to be treated like an adult because most teens think that those things equal adulthood. She even raises her voice at him a few times. Y'all want her to do what she wants but if he okay'd everything and said nothing and she ended up leading herself into bad places y'all be calling him a deadbeat dad. This is really the black community expressing it's opposition to black father's having his natural position in the family because america taught y'all that the government is the real man of the house

@@100016 she was and guess what else, she was a child lol she most likely learned that behavior from Frank . He did more than yell, he called Moesha out her name more that once. Idc how mad you are at your children, you are never suppose to call them names. Especially calling your daughter the H word. He definitely was the villain in SOME episodes (and so was mo in some episodes). There’s other ways to address your child misbehaving than name calling and screaming. Frank was actually the MOST RELATABLE father in TV history...there’s more Franks in this world than Cliff Huxtable...I vividly disagree with this video...Frank did not call Mo a TRAMP he said she LOOKED like one...He was in his early 20s when he conceived Dorian...an age where everyone don’t have everything figured out...On occasions he did cook and helped Dee, but having her cook was a way to help blend her in with the children...to say he’s worse than Al Bundy is a fucking reach, even though Al in his own right was a protective father

“Frank did not call Mo a tramp he said she looked like one” What’s the difference? He’s still disrespecting her and the situation with Dorian wasn’t bad just because she cheated but because he hid it from his family for so long. People make mistakes but it’s still no excuse to cheat on your wife.

Brandy has been my favorite since she was on Thea....so seeing her on Moesha just took me over the top! I was heavily invested in everything Brandy/Moesha (Its how I made it through my teen years lol)....I know this show inside out....now as an adult, I would'nt be able to be as close to a character like Moesha....very grown and seemed to think she was superior to her friends and everything was about her. The show could've lasted longer if the storyline humbled Moesha and if we could've seen who got pregnant! The worst way to cutoff a series in T.V. SHOW HISTORY! The other thing I didn't like was everytime Frank and Dee would kiss, Frank would wipe his mouth....it didn't seem like the relationship was authentic....like touching your wifes lips was nasty.... IDK. I would like for them to create a 10 (random number) episode season and mix in the reallife with the show and help the ones who invested 5 years of watching Moesha, CLOSURE!

They were not grown, so they couldn’t just do as they damn well pleased. He was a bit too strict and shouldn’t called Mo a tramp. Moesha shouldn’t had Q in her room about to bust her 🍒 and Frank and Dee caught them. Let’s also talk about when Dorian got linked up with Master P and was doing all that stealing and stole one of the cars from the Dealership. Why wouldn’t he hold them accountable for they mess. You’re reaching far too much. Y’all must had missed the episode when Dorian met his biological mother and she admitted that Moesha’s real mother up and left Frank and her for an entire year.
