She actually DID too! Even after not eating and drinking for a day, drinking that nasty cleanse drink..colonoscopy and endoscopy at same time, she wakes up looking like a model, with her hair like Farrah Fawcett. Some ppl just have that natural beauty inside n out. I'm so glad they found each other. Even if it doesn't work out, they are 2 absolutely wonderful ppl, deserving of happiness and someone to love and laugh with. I can't imagine either being with anyone else. Love them!

As someone who has multiple chronic illnesses, I’m so sorry that you’re having GI issues. I know you asked for ideas so please don’t take this as a “you have this and you need to do this” (like when people suggest seeing a naturopath for something that clearly requires a medical doctor). Do you have any issues with your period? You don’t have to answer at all, and I am sure you’ve probably looked into it, but I always ask people about endometriosis. Only because it can go undetected for SO long and cause whole body inflammation, massive GI issues, and completely normal test results (unfortunately). I hope you find answers soon ❤️ much love to you both!

Have you ever had a complete thyroid panel done? Not just the TSH. Your eye inflammation could possibly be related to graves disease.
@danialezero93
@danialezero93 5 жыл бұрын
Samm Hamm her eyes being inflamed has nothing to do with Graves, for Graves you consider the eyelids position compared to the iris, normally both eyelids cover the upper and under borders of the iris. In Graves you usually have a “scared look 👀”. You distinguish it from hereditary/genetic “big eyes” because of this. But indeed checking her TSH, T4, free T4 and T3 would be important because of her gastrointestinal problems.

HANNAH: if your body is showing signs of inflammation in multiple places, the way to really rule out a HUGE common cause of inflammation is to eat an anti-inflammatory diet. AIP (autoimmune protocol) is a really good start because it cuts out all of the foods that cause inflammation. It will be very difficult in the beginning, but it is a very clean and healthy way to eat, and it will tell you if the symptoms you are having are due to bouts of inflammation in the GI tract. I would give it a shot to see if food is the culprit. You can introduce items along the way after you have eliminated everything and determine if certain foods are triggers. SO look up, AIP elimination diet for info on what I talked about.

Yes! I highly recommend trying this as well! I had high levels of inflammation in my blood. I have an autoimmune disease also. After going on an anti inflammatory diet, (cut out gluten dairy corn etc) my symptoms have massively improved. It took at least a month to see an improvement. It sucks to cut out junk food, cheese. And other delicious things lol, but its worth it to improve your health.

I’m sure you already know this Hannah, but with anything its good to keep notes or a diary of any symptoms you’re having. I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Gastritis not too long ago but it took a year from when I had the endoscopy. I was told different things by different doctors but kept pushing for my results of the endoscopy and found people online to talk to leading to a good conversation with my Gastro and sharing some very informative articles with him. It turns put he wasn’t familiar with it and was able to confirm with me after doing some reading. Definitely don’t give up. Sometimes the right areas in the stomach aren’t noticed and or the doctor doesn’t know. I think I remember you saying that you had an endoscopy and colonoscopy so it seems they are finding more things going on on through the colonoscopy. I hope they figure out whats going on very soon.

Blood tests indicate systemic inflammation whereas the faecal test (I suspect faecal calprotectin) is a marker of gut inflammation (the absence of which, combined with normal lower GI endoscopy, relatively rules out inflammatory bowel disease (the most common of which are ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease). I am a doctor (not a gastroenterologist though) but finding it hard to make suggestions without knowing the original presentation of symptoms. The only advice I feel comfortable giving so far based on what little info I have is be very careful navigating US health system. I know you got this done in Poland but obviously at some point you're probably going to have to go through follow up at home and my impression of the US system is that it is entirely chaotic, not particularly evidence based, and seems to only exist to squeeze every penny out of the people forced to use it. The raised inflammatory markers in the blood, for example; if this was a CRP level just outside normal range, in the absence of any specific symptoms, no specific follow up would be warranted for that particular elevated result whereas some aspects of private 'care' might determine that should be addressed with a full battery of unnecessary follow up tests for all different causes of inflammation regardless of whether there is any clinical reason to order that test. In your case, you seem to have specific GI symptoms so the battery of tests requested in Poland for GI causes of inflammation does seem appropriate based on the clinical picture rather than because of blood inflammation markers. It seems important to establish why bile is gathering in your stomach. It should not even get there (it's secreted into duodenum so should only go downwards not backwards). Normally bile going backwards might indicate some sort of stricture / blockage further ahead but that does not appear to have been seen on this endoscopy (did they definitely go beyond the stomach into small bowel?). If they are sure there is no GI block/stricture, it may be worth visualising the bililary tree so you could consider MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography). Also USS liver and liver screen would be useful if you still don't have answers soon and the only thing to go on is the bile issue. I'm kinda working backwards here lol because I don't know what your actual symptoms are, when they started, how they progressed etc. Pain? Where? Severity? Does pain radiate anywhere? Type of pain? Nausea? Vomiting? Bilious? Blood? Frequency? Triggers? Bowel habit? Loose motions? Constipation? Blood? Mucous? Frequency? Unintentional weight change? Unusual foods tried before first episode? Exacerbating/alleviating factors? Previous similar issues e.g. In childhood? Any other GI history? Any family history of GI illness? Alcohol intake? Medication use? Allergies? Travel history prior to onset? These are just starter questions to think about but I can understand if you wouldn't answer these in a video or comment. The main thrust of my message is try not to get screwed by unnecessary investigations in the for-profit system but, at the same time, do everything you can with a good evidence base to get a diagnosis. Good luck.

@ThuckBuddies 5 жыл бұрын
@Julie Sprik This is great but doesn't dispute what I'm saying. For example, I'm not saying there aren't loads and loads of docs, nurses and other healthcare professionals who don't go above and beyond for all their patients, in the US. There definitely are. In fact, I'll even concede that while I know some brilliant nurses trained here in the UK, I can't help thinking US nurses have a better grounding in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology etc. The (good ones who work hard) come out much more intuitive and with pretty much all the skills a junior doctor might have in terms of formulating initial management plans for acutely deteriorating patients. So I'll give that to you guys lol. The doctors, however, seem to operate on a much more wild, west landscape. Once accredited and let loose into private practice, the good ones will stay on top of the latest evidence (and will actively read and critically appraise any studies they're presented with) whereas the not-so-good ones (Ben Carsons, Dr Ozs of the world) will not. I'm not judging the whole system by them, but they exist with some prevalence. They behave more like ruthless business types than caregivers. They'll take the word of the pharmaceutical company presenting them with a new drug over the best available evidence, often accepting incentives in the process (in the rest of the world, we call those bribes). They get sloppy in terms of using their clinical judgement to determine which tests are appropriate and necessary, instead ticking a raft of boxes to cover all bases. You should never order a test without knowing how it (the result) is going to change your management. Too often, doctors in the private sector (and this includes the UK too) will order a litany of tests that they have no intention of even trying to interpret and instead ask the patient to follow up with their GP or an NHS specialist (not always the correct speciality), or in the US they'll refer them to other specialists to decide what to do with other results that could be entirely normal. In the US system, that burdens the patient with unnecessary cost. A classic example of this is patients presenting to orthopods in private clinics with mechanical back pain who will refer them (unnecessarily) for an MRI lumbar spine or whole spine and sent them to a neurologist to get their results (even though they would have access to any radiologist report too). The patient then sees a neurologist just to get told they have a normal MRI spine and that it wasn't necessary to do it in the first place since mechanical back pain is not an indication for an MRI. It can even be harmful, as well as costly: occasionally, radiologists will find what is termed an 'incidentaloma'. This means something that appears like a growth or something else of dubious clinical significance on the scan, unrelated to the site being examined, that now has to be investigated. The vast majority of these incidental findings are not clinically significant and never will be in the course of the patient's lifetime, so proactively investigating them with imaging (radiation exposure), biopsies (and any associated anaesthetic/medication risk, prep risk), other blood tests etc etc all burdens the patient with unnecessary risk and cost. Yes, it's entirely possible to get good, even "excellent", medical care in the US and I'm glad you have. It's also entirely possible to get excellent care while undergoing unnecessary tests/expense along the way (the two aren't always mutually exclusive). My words are only meant to advise caution and not say all US healthcare is dangerous / bad, because I don't believe all US healthcare is dangerous / bad lol.

ThuckBuddies I can say as a nurse and crohns patient that your correct. Also, my crohns was missed and misdiagnosed. My first abscess was in the upper small intestine. I went through so many test. Even that I was a nervous female causing issues! Even with test Hannah had in this video I agree a mri may be helpful.
@ThuckBuddies
@ThuckBuddies 5 жыл бұрын
@@happysurvivor9038 Glad you're okay now and got a diagnosis. To clarify though, I specifically meant MRCP as opposed to general MRI abdo. The latter would have limited usefulness (over a CT abdo) (albeit, I say that based on what I know so far, and I haven't watched every video or heard her talk about this much before so I could be missing an indication that you've heard her talk about) at this stage (though, admittedly, so could my MRCP suggestion based on the limited info I'm working with atm lol). If it gets to the point of imaging her abdomen, a plain abdominal film is the way to go initially (but if she's been managed properly so far she's bound to have already had that so I didn't suggest it) and then CT abdo/pelvis. CT is quicker, cheaper and better at visualising air (for bowel imaging) and bone mineralisation disparities (which could be indicative of other underlying pathology). MRI abdomen is would be called for if something was picked up and they wanted to get higher res images in preparation for surgery, or if they were staging a neoplastic diagnosis (hopefully not going to be relevant here). Overall though, tests should be requested on the basis of the pattern of presentation of symptoms and clinical suspicions derived from that presentation, so it's possible that you're right that an MRI abdo could be useful if there's a specific indication I'm not aware of at the moment because of limited info. I take your point that it's possible to have missed Crohn's from a upper and lower GI endoscopy (since a huge portion of the small intestine in the middle won't be visualised) but I'm working on the assumption that that stool test she mentioned was a faecal calprotectin and that the normal result combined with a normal endoscopy relatively excludes the likelihood of Crohn's. According to www.bmj.com/content/341/bmj.c3369, the negative predictive value of a normal faecal calprotectin (when used appropriately) is over 99.8% so she almost certainly doesn't have Crohn's. Strictly speaking, things seem to have been done backwards here lol. The evidence says faecal calprotectin is a good screening tool (www.bmj.com/content/341/bmj.c3369) to determine who should get endoscopy and shouldn't be used as part of the diagnostic pathway whereas Hannah seems to have undergone an endoscopy and faecal calprotectin at the same time lol. From www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4734737/ "The potential uses of the measurement of fecal calprotectin can be summarized as follows: Diagnostic: Fecal calprotectin has adequate sensitivity and specificity to identify those patients most likely to have organic bowel disease, for example, IBD from functional disease, that is, IBS is therefore permitting effective management of colonoscopy resources." I suppose the order doesn't really matter since, overall, the endoscopies sound like they were indicated for other reasons anyway, particularly the upper GI symptoms and did yield a potentially significant finding of the biliary pooling in the stomach. One caveat: As mentioned, this all hinges on the assumption it's a faecal calprotectin test. But if it was, say, a faecal elastase test (a marker of pancreatic inflammation, e.g. chronic pancreatitis), that sort of negates everything I've said lol, and would put IBD back in the picture. I suspect though, if she had something like chronic pancreatitis, she'd have been hospitalised with it by now and been diagnosed with it without needing endoscopies and so on. Then again, I do remember reading a comment of someone talking about her laying on a couch in the foetal position with her mum for two days in agony, clutching her abdomen, so maybe??? This is why I need to find out exactly what her original symptoms/presentation was because it's like feeling around in the dark lol. All of this kinda goes back to my critique of US (or exclusively private healthcare anywhere, to be fair), in that, if something like that happened, she should have been in no doubt that she should go to the hospital urgently but the worry of cost deters people. It deters them from getting non-urgent symptoms looked into before they become full-blown emergencies (which, as a nurse you'll know, are often much harder to treat, and obviously much more dangerous). You'll also know acute pancreatitis can and does kill people when untreated. Hannah has explicitly stated before that her insurance doesn't cover 'routine' visits in her state, just emergencies, and that this has affected her choices about how she has sought to have her issue investigated. So corporate insurers are actively endangering lives by ensuring people only seek treatment when they're about to die, and at a certain point you have to wonder if it's by design, where they realise their business-model is more efficient if a certain % of people die off in these emergency situations so that they aren't put in a position of funding long-term management of chronic health problems. It just makes me so angry, the patients are under enough pressure with worry as it is without forcing them to coordinate their own investigations and movement through the system, figuring out what their insurers will pay for and what they can and can't afford if they won't. It should just be taken care of. The doctors should make the choices with the patient from a number of reasonable, evidence supported options. Patient gets tests. The doctor reviews them and decides which specialists should take over care or initiates first-line treatment there and then, makes the arrangements in the background, informs the patient; all instead of this convoluted system where it all comes back to the patient and they have to decide what their 'options' are [but the options aren't really choices between what they are willing to try from a medical point of view but predominately from what they can afford / will be covered for] and worry, agonise over it, delay over it in the process.. Annoys me so much. Grrr, sorry to rant lol. It's one thing to go through death and suffering because of an unavoidable illness, but another because of corporations figuring out the best way to extract profit from the people in those predicaments.

I'm 53 now and I never get used to it! And I hate the prep!! I have been awakened during it to swallow. They don't have you completely out so you can wake up. It's not like general anesthesia so you may have woke up for a moment. Bless you! Not eating dairy, or wheat helps me so much. I don't have celiac thankfully but, through natural doctors putting me food elimination diets, we discovered I'm sensitive to foods. Hope this info might help you!

As soon as you mentioned the pool of bile that was in your stomach even though you prepped for the endoscopy like a pro, a lightbulb appeared over my head instantly. As someone who has been trough almost every medical procedure there is to find out why I was feeling nauseous all the time, had severe heartburn and even vomiting on occasion my then gastroenterologist (university hospital so they changed almost every single visit, which is quite normal for the Netherlands in uni hospitals) finally came up with an answer that explained why and how I was having so much troubles. He explained that in a smart part of the general population the stomach and liver have an extreme overproduction of bile and gastric acid which causes all of the symptoms that you have described. He couldn't give an explanation to why I never had those issues before or why they started in my early twenties, he just knew it can happen... Luckily there's an amazingly simple solution: I got a medication that lowers the production of the gastric acid, here it is commonly called omeprazole or by its brand name Losec and I have to take 2 capsules of 40 milligrams every day with 12 hours in between, so 8 AM and 8 PM is my routine. Unfortunately I will never be able to reduce or stop taking it ever again but now I am free of all the complaints I had before. Thanks to that one gastroenterologist who recognized the symptoms and could put 2 and 2 together. I truly hope and pray that you too will be able to get the help nd medication needed, even if it is on a one month trial basis at first (my symptoms were cut in half after the first two weeks and almost away after a month). With much love from the Netherlands, Wanda

Hey Hannah, some info about my experience. I had to deal with excessive urgency almost every day, emergency diarrhea sometimes with bile etc. for a decade which turned me agoraphobic. Done every test and nothing turned up. I stopped being a functional human because of it. What resolved the issue after a decade of suffering was seeing a psychiatrist. I've always been an overthinker and turns out I was severely anxious. Anxiety changes your digestion, and my digestive issues would then give me further anxiety and it became a vicious cycle. If I even briefly thought "What if I have to urgently go now!" my bowels would start working and I'd have to find a bathroom in the most unfortunate places. Anyways, I was prescribed escitalopram (an SSRI, known as Lexapro in the US if I know correctly) and after it kicked in (takes a couple months) I was a new person. My digestion just rolled back to normal. No more urgency. Haven't had diarrhea in more than a year now which is unbelievable for me because I'd have it multiple times a day sometimes. Something to think about maybe. Wish you the best of luck!

Hello Hanna. I really hope you get soon your diagnosis. I remember one of your videos, about Shane's weelchair. You said that you use ibuprofen to calm your headache. You can ask to your doctor if that is good for your stomach. Maybe you are already informed about that, but if not can be helpful. Lots of love from Spain! P.d.: years ago I was diagnosed IBS because nothing was wrong on my stomach but just after eat something all my stomach was torturing me. I could not take ibuprofen without a stomach protector. But nowadays I think that It was all about my stress, because all the simptoms are not anymore now. I'm a bit more nervous than other people, maybe more sensitive. I came to realize that, and I started lisening and building my new habits, and learning... Learning a lot, searching a lot. I don't know if you are in the same case, I was just a little mess, and IBS was just gone when I get stronger. Anyway... Thanks to read!!! 🙋🙆

My husband was diagnosed with IBS-D and it sounds very similar to your experiences. They gave him a round of Xifaxan, a new antibiotic for IBS folks than can help reduced an overgrowth of gut bacteria (I think). He also did the FODMAP diet for a few months and it was life-changing. He was able to add the foods back in moderation (although we've left HFCS out for general health). I highly recommend looking at the FODMAP diet. It sucks for a bit, not gonna lie, but if something is triggering the episodes, this is a good way to figure it out. Good luck!

In Canada it’s FREE to get any type of procedure or surgery done as long as you have Alberta healthcare or Saskatchewan health care or wherever you live healthcare you don’t really need insurance except for eye care and dental. and the scopes can be done while you’re completely under or done while sedated at no extra cost... I wish other places would have better healthcare....so people could get what they need done without worrying about cost...

Joanna Saadati true, you do need health insurance to cover prescription medications; however most insurance to cover 75% of the medication cost is pretty cheap, before I was on aish(income for severely handicapped) I only paid blue cross(type of insurance) $60 a month to cover 75% of prescription medications and it also covered 75% of dental and eyes. now that I’m on Aish they cover the exact same amount but I don’t have monthly payments, and when I have appointments with specialist doctors, as long as I get a letter saying I showed up Aish will reimburse me for travel, and Aish isn’t the only income for severely handicapped in Canada; Aish is just in Alberta, everywhere in Canada has some form of income support for severely handicapped people who can’t work, and people with chronic illnesses that effect working are accepted too..sooo its actually really helpful. Canada’s healthcare is actually really really fantastic! Squirmy and grub should move to Canada, because it would REALLY help their medical costs

A Gastroenterologists told me I had IBS, but he didn't have any solutions for me. I kept digging and found some information that claimed GI issues could be linked to a food intolerance. I went to a Allergist and was tested for a variety of items. It turns out I have a severe intolerance to soy, which is in a lot of prepared foods. The testing showed I actually have an intolerance to many different foods (my list is well over 50 items), but soy has been the biggest, followed by barely. Yes, it's horrifyingly sad, but I can't drink beer anymore!

Went to several GI doctors with no positive tests. Finally the last GI doctor told me to see an allergist. Our experience was we had food allergies and intolerance to gluten and wheat. We were also tested for Celiac disease but did not test positive. So we eventually were referred to Allergy associates in onalaska WI( not too far from MPLS). They are wonderful there and did cure us of the same types of symptoms Hannah is experiencing. We were put on a special diet, we were told just to exclude the foods we were sensitive or allergic to. The whole process in our family took 2 years to figure out. And now we have been on a exclusion diet of gluten and wheat for over 4 years without any problems! Just want to say I’m not a doctor, but your symptoms sounded so Similiar to ours even down to all the negative GI tests run by all of the GI Doctors. Anyway Wish you the best, and hope you figure out what the problem is! Keep making the videos!!

That is not nice of them. They could atleast waited till that thing was out and than wake you up.

@@laramaaike3050 Yeah, definitely agree with you there! I think they were just trying to get me up and out of there ASAP. And maybe they expected me to not wake up immediately but I just take that experience and know that if I have to get the procedure done again, I'll make sure to tell them. :D

I had some similar symptoms a few years back and my medical procedure had the same results. Somehow everything looked fine but I still felt terrible. I found great relief after applying suggestions given to me by my Acupuncturist who is also a Chinese Medicine Doctor. Acupuncture paired with some lifestyle and food changes did the trick for me after experiencing the discomfort for 2+ years. I hope you’ve found some relief by now 🙏🏻

I've been following you guys now for quite some time and am a big fan. Today my granddaughter came over and started telling me about "This guy named Shane Burcaw that wrote a book that she got from the school library". She said you had to be in 3rd grade at least to check it out - she's in 4th. She was so cute and giggly when she said the book has bad words in it, like the "p" word for a boys part. Omg, too funny. Just thought I'd share because she was very excited to read your book then tell me about you, which, as she found out, I already knew. You both have a beautiful day... And wonderful life!! 💞
