I’ve been trying to research PRP therapy for basal thumb arthritis for my brother. Looks like this might be worth considering. Appreciate your presentation on this research!

Thank you doctor, for explaining this issue I also was diagnosed with last week. My MD referred me to a rheumatologist, but in your opinion, isn't it better to see an orthopedic surgeon? Thank you❤

Yet another excellent video about PRP injections! Question: How does one go about finding a doctor in their location who performs PRP injections? Thanks!

I recommend starting with your local academic / university medical center sports medicine or orthopedics department.

Thanks for this video! Can you talk about the relationship btwn OA in hands and autoimmune issues? Does PRP work in those cases, if inflammation is in other parts of the body besides joints?

I gave up eating grains, vegetables, & sugar and the arthritis all over my body either disappeared or subsided markedly.

If the platelets are in the blood, why doesn’t it work with just normal blood circulation? Is it always your own blood? Does it regrow the cartilage? Thank you.
@JeffreyPengMD Жыл бұрын
Your circulatory system can't get direct access to the joint. Yes it's always your own blood. Unfortunately there is no evidence that PRP (or stem cells for that matter) can regrow cartilage. It helps to change the environment of the joint by decreasing inflammatory markers. This helps reduce symptoms

Will PRP help a stage 3 osteoarthritis of the thumb carpometacarpal joint. I think I am bone on bone and am in a lot of pain.

Great info doc! I consulted a regenexx doc regarding treatments for my ecu split tear/tendinosis and asked how many platlets will be in my prp. He said it's going to be 8x of my base count. He doesn't go by platelet counts because different body part requires different dosage. Does it sound right to you? Thanks in advance!
@JeffreyPengMD Жыл бұрын
He's probably just used to talking in terms of concentration (ie. 8x). It's really the same thing since you can just calculate the platelet count. To get 8x your base count, you'll need about 30cc blood draw. This gives about 6-7 billion platelets. For a small tendon like the ECU, this is very appropriate.

Is there any studies for DeQuervain tenosynovitis being treated with Prp? I’m currently recovering from my Prp injection less than a week in and am looking for some kind of hope. Thank you!

Yes, works well

@@JeffreyPengMD could you possibly do a video covering this type of treatment. I can only find one other source for research over DeQuervains being treated with PRP.
