Three of Swords: 3 heartbreaks/losses: her powers, her agency, and her son. The Tower: There was at least 1 statue depicting Wiccan in the temple on Mt Wundagore and I still think when it collapsed, the energy within it escaped to inhabit Teen's body as it traveled through Wanda's magic. Maybe Teen's magical knowledge before alerted him to this new presence inside of him and, to protect himself, maybe he cast the sigil on himself. Death: a force of nature, hence the Green Witch. Rio might be Death indeed and she's part of the natural order of the universe. She doesn't kill, she just takes souls.

@@shreyu1312 i think so. Rio apparently comes out of the ground on the Witches' Road. I think "death" invites her, and Sharon's death could be how she comes in. I think she tags along with the coven to collect the souls of those that die on the Road. If she really is Death/Lady Death/the Grim Reaper, she must have been waiting for those centuries-old witches. In the first trailer, Rio is also seen teasing or trying to pressure the coven (when Agatha is in her Exorcist state, walking backwards and scaring Teen, Rio teases her by saying "what are you gonna do now" "the bodies are really piling up" and "what happens next" in all too a playful manner).

The room of personification (or whatever it's called in the comix) was already hinted at via Love and Thunder with concepts of Love and Eternity being embodied so I wouldn't be shocked if Rio is an aspect of death, a variant essentially.

Death is a cosmic being but has taken on human Avatars before, like Khonshu (Moon Knight) and Bast (Black Panther). In Death's case, it was a woman named Marlo Chandler, the wife of Hulk's best friend, Rick Jones. Marlo has even taken on the actual role of Lady Death after Death herself retired recently. So I don't think Rio is literally Death, I think she's Death's Avatar.

You’re probably not gonna read this, but I actually think the back of the cards resemble the different elements or trials the coven has to go through. Before they enter the water trial, it shows the phases of the moon which is commonly associated with water and the tide. The triangles symbolize fire and earth respectively and the moon at the top symbolizes air as a phase of the moon! Just speculation but pretty cool!

Lilia's card depicts a castle because in the trailer, it was hinted her trial will take place in a castle (due to the dress she wore and swords falling), somewhat a homage to Wizard of Oz. As for Alice's, the symbol above may be the flying female demon. In one trailer, it seems to appear and hop over Alice's shoulders as it burns. Crown in Teen's card might be Wanda's crown, and the two people may indeed be Billy and Tommy. As their 838 versions were present in Wundagore when Wanda tried to get them. Maybe a representation of their falling out to 616 Wanda.

The connection of the tower card to Mt Wundagore has made me think Teen’s backstory connects more to the all the copies of the Darkhold being destroyed (which they’ve mentioned a few times) than we’ve considered. Maybe instead of the twins souls being shards of Mephisto, they were captured or absorbed by the Darkhold at the end of Wandavision and when all the copies were destroyed they were released and reincarnated as they were in the comics. Wanda did hear them calling out to her when she was reading the Darkhold in the post credits scene of Wandavision. The two people falling from the tower could represent Billy and Tommy’s souls escaping from the Darkhold. Chaos and upheaval indeed! Idk I’m just spitballing but it’s fun to speculate.

I love that! Honestly, I think that ties it all together even better. The only issue is Teen saying things happened when he was 13, which puts us more around the time of Wandavision rather than MoM, when he would be 14. But otherwise it fits perfectly. I agree, this is so much fun to speculate!

Yeah, I'm really torn on whether Rio was Mrs. Hart all along (I'm leaning that direction) or if Rio was able to enter the Road via Mrs. Hart's death and somehow Rio knew about what Mrs. Hart had said previously (less sure on that). We'll hopefully get our answer in a few short days!

For the Tower, my suspicion would be the accident; the near death mentioned in the credits, carwreck Agatha mentioned in detective mode, and what the teen said something big hallened 3 years ago. The two people being his parents he has mentioned a couple times, which would have been saved by the front airbags.

13:05 The circles on the bottom of the card resemble the symbol on the front door of the house in Episode 3 (Lilia notes it resembles the phases of the moon ( like you noted) and Teen comments that it is full which is the Water Phase (they later realize they were under water)). Additionally, the large circle on the top of the card resembles the large circle on all the doors inside the house. I think the hourglass symbolizes the 30-minute time limit they had in Episode 3 to escape the first trial in the house. Thoughts?

I am really interested in the Knight of Wands card. Here are the things I noticed which may or may not related: 1. the pattern on the knight's tunic looks like a lizard or salamander. Salamander commonly represents fire. 2. The coat of arms, the middle one has a dragon, also commonly related to fire. The other two, not so sure. Dragons are also prominent in East Asian culture, perhaps related to Alice's heritage. 3. The right coat of arms has an interesting design, it's not symmetrical, and has a weird shape that does not resemble anything. The top part above the circles could be a candle flame being blown. 4. The knight is facing west, so Westview? or protecting from something coming from the west? Wanda comes from Westview, so protection from Wanda? Also, tarot cards are collectable items in Marvel's Midnight Sun. A hint to a future project maybe?

I’m really glad you put this video together. I am planning to do a rewatch when the show is over to make note of Lilia’s use of the tarot and the cards that she names during various events, and I’m glad you pointed out the Marvel merch (which I was unaware of!). They’ve done a good job of emulating the Rider-Waite-Smith style in these. I have actually studied tarot for over 20 years, so here are a few extra thoughts of my own: the oval at the top of the MCU 3 of Swords might be a number 0. The only 0 in the tarot is The Fool, and The Fool is a card that represents beginning a journey. It is not meant to be negative, it’s not an insult to say that you are The Fool on your journey. It just means that none of us ever really know when we start something new where it will take us, and certainly none of them know where this journey will take them. However, given that this 0 is on a card that is almost always unwelcome in a reading, there is absolutely an indication that what Agatha once started eagerly, she now regrets. It may be that a 0 was also used to symbolize loss; certainly the loss of a child, but also the loss of love, of a mother, a lover, coven, companionship in general. Agatha has been on a lonely path, and I feel like that 0 is heavily emphasizing that. I think the Queen of Cups might be Mrs. Hart. For one thing, she’s a Wine Mom (the cups represent emotions in the tarot, but they absolutely are also used to directly reference drinking for enjoyment: see the 3 and 9 of Cups). This MCU Queen is depicted in a far more happy state than the original Queen of Cups, out in a bright sunny environment enjoying a drink in front of a nice home, blissfully unaware that time is ticking away for her (the hourglass). That feels very much like the first Trial to me. Finally, The Magician: well that’s an interesting choice for the end credits. He has 4 tools in front of him representing all the suits of the cards: Pentacle, Cup, Wand, Sword. His masculine depiction is quite intentional, as Waite and Coleman used gender (including gender neutrality) in the cards to depict different energy. That’s a big topic where lots of people have thoughts on stereotyping of genders, but just in terms of the meaning of the card itself, the Magician is not a witch. His masculine energy relies on tools, and not the intuitive witchy wisdom that Waite and Coleman depicted as feminine. Could be Mephisto, could be Teen. It’ll be interesting to see what the mystery of Teen is, because I do think the Magician references him.

I just rewatched the second episode since that’s where we first meet Lilia, and she says “3 of Pentacles” while writing the coven list and “High Priestess” when she first meets Jennifer Kale. Another interesting point: if we include the Magician from the end credits, the cards used are half Major Arcana and half Minor Arcana. If a card has one of the suits in the name (swords, wands, cups, pentacles) it’s minor. Major Arcana typically have bigger meaning than minor. I think it’s clear that Teen is going to be deeply important to the plot, and Rio as well. That makes me wonder what role Jennifer Kale still has to play, and who the Magician might be!

I got really struck by the fact that there are 7 cards because one of the most famous and most widely used spreads is the 7-Card Horseshoe Tarot Spread. In readings it isn't just the individual cards meanings, but their placement in the spread and their relationship to each other. In the Horseshoe Spread the first card is the Past, second is the Present, third is the Hidden Influences, fourth is Obstacles and Challenges, fifth is Attitudes of Others, sixth is What Should Be Done and seventh is the Likely Outcome. I really want to know what order the tarot cards were released in, and if they correspond to the Horseshoe Spread at all. Especially if the image at 2:31 is the official spread, then the Likely Outcome is Death

Hi, man! You might be onto something with this! I'm doing a catch up on the latest episodes of the Official Marvel Podcast (if you're not following it I highgly recommend it) and I just listened to an episode in which they interviewed Mary Livanos, an executive producer on this show. The episode is about a month old and it's called "Agatha Harkness: A Dark and Twisted History" and at around the 12 minutes mark the interviewer asks her "How much of a witch are you?" and she replies, quote: "What a question. I am a bit of a witch myself. Actually, it's funny to recall back when I interned at Marvel. At the time I was learning how to read tarot cards, which then actually came in quite handy during this production. I won't get too much into it, it's a bit of a spoiler, but there are some tarot cards and it was fun to bring some of my knowledge to this project." As soon as I heard this quote I immediately hit pause and came here to write this comment. The tarot cards absolutely have a significance within this show, and the fact that she says that it's "a bit of a spoiler" makes me think that this is not just a merchandise thing.

Perhaps Lilia predicted a tragedy taking place during a celebration which contributed to her being chased out of the city when it came to pass. Or in the Magican blended with Death, the Magician is the master at utilizing and manipulating the elements. Could that mean that behind the scenes Rio is using the other witches/the roads trials as a means to an end? All things to speculate about

I think either the symbol or the crest on the top of the Knight of Hearts may represent the Demon from episode 4. The physical manifestation of the curse. Could be the middle crest - red bird like being with open wings, clawed feet positioned almost like it is about to land on Alice's shoulders. Or the symbol at the top, could be outspreads wings, or eyes, mouth and beak. That or the symbol at the top is two people clasping hands together to form a stylised heart shape - maybe a reference to the protection spell and bond between mother and daughter. And the shapes that could look like wings then may be two blades on either side. Sorry for the long message. Great video!💜

The magician cards has symbols from the other cards on it. That represent the three of pentacles, the three of swords , the queen of cups, the knight of Wanda and death. I can't see anything from the tower or the high priestess.

The details in this show continue to impress! I’m also now realizing that “The Tower” tarot card (as with all these cards) are actually legitimate works… in Harry Potter and Half Blood Prince that’s the same card Professor Trelawney has that predicts Dumbledore’s death in the Astronomy Tower. I thought that was something JK Rowling made up… I had no idea that it was a legit pre-existing thing!

If you look at the placement of the magician card in the end credits, you’ll notice it is centered amongst five other tarot cards. One could construe that each of the other five cards, represents one of the other witches. That would imply that teen is the magician card. Also, on the back of the tarot cards, the two triangle symbol is very similar to the two triangle symbol used by the TVA . Also, also, I know screen crush keeps saying that Billy is standing in front of a stork photo, but actually it is a great blue heron… and with teens powers being blue… This could’ve been foreshadowing.

Man this is the type of content I love and subscribe for! I didn’t even know these existed but they also have really interesting deeper meanings it seems. I’d love a short video after the series to see what if any of your predictions were right, and more hints in these cards that we didn’t pick up on in the moment. I was surprised to see you go over the leaked funko pops but since it’s out there now, I do think that Rio is quite literally death and is working with Mephisto somehow. We’ll have to see but that’s my prediction. I really love all these cosmic beings, we’ve gotten teases of the living tribunal who I’d love to actually see, but he was mentioned all the way back in doctor strange 1 and shown in a dimension in MoM, also dormammu is I think our first big cosmic being on screen, we of course got eternity in Love and Thunder, and now at least a mention of Mephisto, and very strong hints at death? Maybe seeing them both? So cool to see, I’d love to see more.

Yeah, good point about legos. I think I'll stay away from any promotional materials that aren't officially released by Marvel going forward. So the tarot card t-shirts are okay, but Funkos and Legos are things I'll probably avoid from now on.

I think most of the things you talked about was right I’m currently studying tarot for fun so I’m still learning. Also at this time I haven’t seen the show yet. I wanna mention that I think most of the designs are stylistic choices and don’t really bare too much actual symbolism. Before the cards breakdown I wanted to mention why some of the tarot of labeled and why some arnt. The tarot can be split into 2 or three groups. Major Arcana which when drawn deals with major life events or lesson and this is usually labeled. Then minor arcana which is for what’s happening in the situation at a given time. Not usually as grand as the major. However in the minor there are 4 suits and each suit has the court cards which are labeled. Queen of cups marvel version has 4 pillars and in numerology 4 is the number of stability also pillars are associated with stability anyways. Queen of cups also is representations that you’re emotionally mature/stable and because of her association with water means that there is more access to the subconscious mind/subconscious secrets. The marvel version of her being out of the castle while being the queen of cups reads to me as an emotionally stable person who doesn’t need status and is happy/stable with themselves regardless of status High priestess She also has a high association with the subconscious mind and high intuition because of the water in the background and the moon phases hat/moon iconography She’s generally known for high intuition. And suggesting quieting the mind. She is the guardian of the subconscious mind/secrets in being sitting in front of an ocean shielding it with a carpet with pomegranates. She is implied sitting in the temple of Solomon with the black and white column/pillar representing opposite energies In the marvel version it still seems like she’s the guardian of something. Light perhaps. I also wanted to touch of death and the tower In the original meanings for me because they deal with cycles or life lessons. They’re pretty similar imo While the tower is associated with chaos and upheaval the main message or take away is that this is more of a restart of sorts in your cycle. It’s a culling away of that that does not serve you anymore. The story behind the tower is that it’s built of bad foundation so it’s easy for it to be tumbled down but since you know how to build it you can do it better this time and maybe this time around have a better foundation. The death is for the most part spot on. It’s known as a rebirth card as well since what ever is leaving your life lets room for other things to come in. Going back to the cycles thing for our life lessons. While there can be chaos and/or grief this cycle is done or this thing in your life has reached a final conclusion. I will say In the marvel death card the flowers look more like the rider Waite magicians flowers which represent the heavenly realm where things are non physical which one of his hands points too. The other hand is pointing down because he is creating from the non physical to physical by drawing from the heavenly energies earlier. This can only be done is you’re fully intact with yourself hence why the magician has every symbol of each suit on his table. Thanks for reading this. The death card uses some of the magician card images… The queen of cups uses some of the four of wands images (such as the castle) and the knight of wands uses some of the seven of wands images such as the positioning of the main character. So I wonder if in those cases two different tarot cards are determining the characters future

Maybe for Alice’s card the symbol at the top is the curse that was over the family but unseen. The curse demon is being kept away by the crest. Maybe she’s not just holding a staff but that it really represents a mic stand since she’s a Red Rocks and she has to sing to kill the curse.

6:22 The castle in the background of this card looks a lot like the castle that's pictured in the background of a different Tarot card: The Four of Wands. In fact, the whole card that Marvel drew seems to have a lot more in common with the Four of Wands than the Queen of Cups. There are four columns surrounding the central figure much like the wands do in that card depiction, and even the arch at the top mimics the foliage draped between the wands in the original card.

That is a fantastic point… Yes, I bring that up in my latest theory video that I just dropped yesterday. It’s also interesting that the death card steals some symbols from the magician card (in particular the flowers at the top of the card) and the four of wands steals from the seven up wands (the positioning of the main character on the card). So it seems in a few cases that perhaps a given character in the show, has their fate determined by two different tarot cards combined!

I just watched eps4 and the three swords card appeared, and the starting wizard also said "three swords" during the scene where the teen was injured and Agatha was sad, panicked and lost,sadness, where the card also had same meaning.

Then I also just remembered that throughout the film the number 3 is also mentioned a lot. Had no idea Marvel released this stuff, that's cool. The Tarot cards having the sigil as a signature is ... fascinating to me. I agree with you on the Agatha and Coven cards, very cool. I think the Lilia card is representative of divination, the castle is a curious bit. As for Knight of Wands, very uncertain on it. In The Tower I thought it was Billy and his boyfriend but then realized it's more likely to be Billy and Tommy. I love how it also represents Wundagore and maybe Wanda too. We obviously know because of the Funko leaks what the Death card is representative of. The card back is ... really interesting too because I have no idea what it could mean.

I want to point out that the Tarot suits each represent an element Fire for wands, Water for cups, Earth for pentacles, and Air for swords. But apparently character resemblance and card meaning have a bigger role in Marvels use of the deck

oh i think i get it now, these cards represent the episodes where the witches awaken their powers. meaning episode 7 is where they reveal who death is. because the episode 5 yesterday lilia said to alice "knight of wands" when she blasts agatha with her powers. so the next episode is about lilia. then episodes 8 and 9 are special episodes

Hey ya. As a big fan of the tower card ( I have a tower card talisman I wear on occasion) I just wanted to share some things I've noticed. The tower is usually the end of an established concept or system of authority. Not like how death is like a rebirth, but there's finality in this card. Teens identity might be ending as he knows it. Because he's pursuing a metaphysical path he might be losing his more earthly connections. To me the other person on the card looks like "boyf". He's wrapped in wiccans cape, while teen is not. (Like a boyfriend sweater.) Wanda doing what she did has triggered something changing that can't be undone. Usually the ones falling are the king and church leader from the emperor and hierophant cards. It often means a status quo change from the previous authority figures. Towers, cities, and man made structures represent earthly concepts, physical concepts, while mountains represent spiritual ones, and clear blue skies mean you are being given a clearer path by a larger force at play. Teens authority over himself and his physical connections to other non magical people are eroding because a larger spiritual force at play is no longer able to protect him. ( That's what I'm getting. ) P.s the magician card is likely not random in the credits. It fits that lillias credits would feature a card, but it's likely more to represent the road. Each suit in the deck represents an element. Cups is water, the emotional element. Pentacles/coins is material, and earthly, like ores and gems. Swords is passionate fire. Wands or rods are air, and represent thoughtfulness. The magician stands at the alter gathering all these things to use at his command. It's as if to say your inner self, when balanced by the four elements, can handle any trial. Your road will be easier if you can master them. The magician represents the adversity of the road and the promised empowerment that happens when a witch has mastered these elements inside herself.

7:47 The Queen of Cups shows the same yellow-gowned girl in Lilia's vision and it's actually two cards mixed together. Interestingly the background of the card is the Four of Wands. Only the castle remains, the wands replaced with marble pillars, even the little character appears with his cloak. The two boys initially on the 4oW are no longer in the center, as if this fortuneteller had been placed to hide them. The fusion of cards may reveal Lilia's vision about William's fate becoming Billy (4oW) and also the sigil she placed to hide his true identity, showing as the Queen of Cups in the middle of the card. Also interesting that the Four of Wands and the Tower normally present the same male figures... Billy and Tobby ? 😊

6:17 This picture is actually two mixed cards : 3oSwords + 2oCups. Agatha embodies the two characters shown on the Cups. Even wearing floral patterns and the crown. The leaves sketched on the road seem to have fallen from Agatha's dress... It makes me think of the idiom "turn over a new leaf". Meaning Agatha has to start fresh, and maybe has to change her behaviour. The way her hands are drawn here have many meanings : 1/ she's powerless, empty hands 2/ she's holding her lost child 3/ theory: as it's a mix with the 2ofCups, where two characters exchange their cups and only Agatha ends on the road empty-handed on the 3oS, it might reveal she has to surrender to redeem herself and sacrifice her own goal to save Teen in the end. The leaves fallen of her dress may symbolise her fate: maybe she won't successfully leave the road this time... Edit : yep, theory 3 it is. She does leave the road empty handed, sacrificing herself to save Billy, and just like the 2ofCups cards showing an exchange of cups, Billy exchange a little bit of his power with Agatha. A deal to end it together...

That signature and sigil looks an awful lot like a combined WM for Wanda Maximoff. I really like your theory that Teen is Billy and Wanda subconsciously casted this sigil. We have to remember that sigils work on the witch that cast it too, and they of course only work to witches. I’m wondering at what point of Multiverse of Madness would Wanda have possibly casted this sigil and I’m thinking to the very end where she perhaps thought that it would be best to completely forget about her children.

The castle in the queen of cups card is really bothering. For some reason intead of using the original queen of cups card and altering it, they used the 4 of wands card and edited that one. And called it the queen of cups. Since there's just one and she's sitting with a cup (glass of wine?) and the hourglass (time running out) i think this is Sharon who dies in a trial that is timed and where she drinks wine.

I know it's not relevant to the video but I do feel compelled to add the following to the comments as a footnote to those interested: Tarot Cards are much older than just the Rider Waite deck. Tarot are just playing cards just like any other set of playing cards out there. And just like any playing card suites out there, they can and are used for divination. The Raider-Waite deck is a suite and spread that was specifically meant for divination rather than playing and it's spread has become pretty much the most well known. So much so that other decks are created following the Rider Waite format but changing the visuals (but fitting the same meaning and vibe intended by original Rider Waite deck). I say this because not only is the Rider Waite Tarot much younger than the card suite itself but it is also not even the only or the first subset created specifically for divinition/cartomancy. It's just the most well known and darn near ubiquitous at this point.

The Rider Waite deck is pretty much the standard in Tarot divination conversations and as this show relies heavily on magic symbolism of many different things it takes whole sale from the Rider Waite Tarot for good reason. So nothing is wrong in the video. Just wanted to add a footnote to any other person that might find extra information on Tarot as a kind of fun fact. (It feels like a little known fact that Tarot by name is just a suite of cards like the bicycle French suite that we often use when we just say "playing cards" even though they're not too dissimilar (4 suites with 10 pips and 3 faces with a trump suite containing one card The joker)... compare that with traditional Tarot (4 suites with 10 pips and 4 faces) and a trump suite that had a variable number of cards but always had the fool).

What interests me the most is that whoever wrote the script for this series knows way more about the occult than Marvel comics did back in the day. Lol. While obviously fiction, one has to have more than a 'basic' understanding of 'things' to change certain nuances of the arts, and integrate it so well into the story, while keeping much of the integrity (for the most part) of the original Marvel characters intact. If anything, occult-wise, they did a more 'accurate' depiction than the mumbo jumbo 'magick' that the Dr. Strange movies depicted. 'Accurate' in quotes because there is a diference between the Agatha version and real life version, obviously... But it still is very interesting... (By the way, in the Tarot, the 'High Priestess' is VERY powerful...) Probably one of the best Marvel TV series to date so far...

The original death card has a white flower on it .When Agatha recruited Mrs Hart all of Mrs Harts flowers were white . The magician card has The same red roses at the top that are on the death card , at the bottom of the card there are white flowers mixed with the red roses. Could Mrs Hart be Rio? The magician card also has the symbol for Infinity which could mean deaths eternal cycle. I think this card means Rio has been pulling the strings. Then the double candle , it could mean trying to do too much at once but it also could mean two spirits working together. the roman numeral could mean the original, it could also mean unity or oneness. It appears the Magician also has a belt in the shape of deaths dagger with black blood dripping

Great commentary on the cards. I really love how Marvel has used them to provide hints and clues about the series. I like the idea of Rio and Mrs. Hart being the same person, as I've speculated on that myself. And I am very curious to learn how the Magician fits into all of this!
